The [b]diplomatic[/b] ship Leia is first seen on is clearly not going to be carrying a compliment of X-Wings. In the movie the Imperials were going to shoot down any escape pods they scanned that signs of life as evident by the conversation in regards to the escape pod with C3-PO & R2-D2 were in.

Something I have been wondering about. How is Leia going to get from that ship to Tatoonie?
