Yeah, I'd prefer we restrain ourselves a bit in terms of scale. Even a hundredth of the galaxy has somewhere in the order of a few hundred million stars. Since we're going for starlanes I'd prefer we be 'small'. I'd be willing to put somewhere in the order of 40-50 systems on the map, admittedly because more would look like a mess and take forever. If anyone has doubts, remember that realistically a single system could support quadrillions of people. No setting attempts to get scale even remotely realistic because it's bad for storytelling.
Maybe only a minority of systems are connected to the starlane network, but from time to time Vacare could find new lanes to previously uncharted systems so the network is always expanding inside and out?

Imperial Assessment Legatus,
There has been some....odd and troubling developments in recent years in the Dathu System, House Regis, historically, has been rather insignificant in the grand history of this great Empire, however, House Regis has had a economic and technological boom as of late, developing technologies quite ahead of their more larger, more powerful peers, we can simply go to the conclusion that the Regis' have simply hit the resource "jackpot" so to speak.
However...We have our own, more troubling theories as to their rapid ascent through the ranks. My operatives believe that the Concordat has made dealings with the fleeting House, unfortunately we have little insight on the exact details of this alliance, fortunately however, it seems that the Concordat is only so willing to export its more sophisticated technology, and has only giving the bare minimum to the House in question. But this small piece of the proverbial pie was more then enough to aid House Regis in slowly becoming a power to watch very closely.
Argus Regis, the current Patriarch of the House, was a very ill man before the Alliance with the Concordat, but for obvious reasons, the once frail Patriarch had quickly recovered in good health, and has assumed direct control of his domain.
Orbital footage from the surface of the House Capital of Jalaryias have shown that Argus has constructed a massive factory complex in a remote region of the planet, manufacturing high-tier civilian and military hardware, providing for the entire Dathu system and surrounding systems, a profession House Regis was quite lacking in.
It bares repeating, House Regis' advancement poses a possible threat if handled poorly, I'll have operatives monitor for any further developments.
Random thought: Wouldn't it make sense for the Vacare to have been kept on a very tight leash by the Empire? Kind of how like in The Witcher (odd example, but still) the mages of Nilfgaard were considered valuable but very disposal assets. I was hoping Vacare would be less prevalent, but that's just me personally. It just kind of makes sense to me that the Empire would consider these super-human people to be a potential threat, and actively suppress them. Using their potential, but never allowing it to grow out of their control. Now that the Emperor is dead, many Vacare could be using the opportunity to break away or push reform. Some of the loyalist, obedient Vacare would try to preserve the status quo to keep their cushy positions in the court.

I agree on all points. I'm actually going to retcon my sheet to change the Subtle Voice to not be a vacare sect, but...something else, having to do with Petrichor. To use SW lingo they'd be force sensitives, but not jedi or sith, and will have decreased prominence in my faction. I'm going to play up the idea the House Kesselbrood is very xenos-dependent and affiliated. Stay tuned for an updated NS.
@Pepperm1ntsMakes sense. Moreover there's no reason to have a bona-fide Vacare as a ships navigator either. Just somebody with some level of void sensitivity. A mid to low grade psychic would probably do.
Mayne we should set it up that a minority of people are void sensitive, of those some have limited powers, but true Jediesque Vacare are the minority among the minority and are watched closely? Or they were.

That's a fair point actually.
I could even make one of the Rankov's goals getting access to enough Vacare to see how their talents could be enhanced by genetic engineering. Instead of a separate cabal, the Vacares in Virezhir would be attached to the Imperial forces deployed in the sector

That was part of my reasoning with the Knights of Null(Perhaps to be renamed Knights of Silence), individual genetically altered to be absent from the void and its influence. Thus making them the perfect Vacare keepers and hunters. Kind of imagine there might even be government sectioned places where Vacare were kept from the public at large kind of like magi circles in dragon age.
Appreciate the work you do that no one else is willing to. You deserve praise for that alone.
On a serious, I would maybe space those systems apart from each other a little, so that it might be easier to assign nameplates if you decide to do that.
How might you feel about adding the systems with no lanes to signify fringe systems on the edge of the empire?
Systems that we know exist but can't get to at the moment? Like alien systems we've yet to invade enlighten? Makes sense.
Also that image is massively shrunken from the original, and it's still huge. There's enough space to add a paragraph for each system already :p The original is like, 17k by 13k pixels.

Ya, alien systems, sorry if I did not make that clear. That way it will make the map seem less empty if we have a few yet unexplored lanes/systems. Might make for possible plot points later on. :P
I had an idea that will likely affect everyone on some level and I wanted peoples opinions and thoughts.
Early in the rise of the empire, a bargaining company that specialized in security and starbase defense began research of the first gene-lock devices. Bactrimel Industries had long dabbled in the field of bio-science and gene therapy. The first man that would later become emperor of the fledgling solar empire quickly saw the merits that might be gained from these fields in securing political power. Through government-funded projects, the first genuine gene-lock devices began development.
Through careful selection and manipulation, the first emperor gene locked technology deemed most vital to the empire. These rights could be further delegated by carefully selecting loyal officials and retainers and granting them authority codes that allowed one access-- they, in turn, could delegate further down the chain. It was this right of access to critical installments that is thought to have created the Empire in the current state it is in now. Thus allowing the rebirth of neo-feudalism as power began to reside in several noble houses. Due to the imperial families right of access, they have been allowed to remain in control for centuries.
Even assassination attempts were discouraged due to the gene-locks failsafe of shutting down access unless rights are not carefully transferred before succession. It was almost through gene-lock technology alone that the Imperial family has managed to wrest so much power from the Imperial Bureaucracy.
The idea here is that gene locked technology is one of the reasons why the imperial family has remained in power for so long. It also means there will be even more importance on acquiring an heir or a member of the imperial family by one faction or another. As it might mean access to vaulted tech or weapon platforms that are at the moment unusable. Basically right to rule grounded directly in the technology the empire needs to survive rather than a divine mandate.
Well if ya'll think this idea is stupid or silly let me know, or if it needs changes or additions.
@FrostedCaramel Basically, any specific technology in question, a ship, a weapon or a installation, etc, is locked out to anyone not related to the original owner, their very DNA is the key to any gene-locked tech, otherwise, you'll be locked out and the tech remains useless.
