Then one of those two it is! Also, I think there must be a balance between drama and regular ''slice of life'' situations within a story. A character isn't fully fleshed out when the only reasoning we can see of him is in crisis, nor can he sometimes shine when the drama happens. Of course the plot has to have some kind of dramatic content in it, as every narration that has as an objective catching the attention of the reader, but a man doesn't react the same to an explosion downtown as he does to the handling of his finances and his relationships. A hero can appear at the most crucial of times out of the most grim, despicable man. So I guess the slice of life with enough drama would work pretty well.
