Weapon: Dual short swords, each with a blade one and a half feet in length, one infused with fire dust and the other with wind dust. Designed to be used in concert with each other, the wind dust infused sword in the off-hand to strengthen the fire created by the sword in the main hand.

The two weapons can be linked together by the hilts and extended to create a three foot long staff with a sword blade at each end, creating a total length of six foot.

Semblance: Time Dilation – Whether this is truly a form of time manipulation or simply a temporary increase in speed Niels isn’t entirely sure, but from his perspective whenever he activates his semblance time seems to slow down to a crawl for everything but himself. During these moments he is able to move as normal but everything else is slowed down so as to appear to be barely moving at all; with this Niels is able to dance between attacks, evade enemies or set himself up for a large attack among other things.

This effect lasts up 5 seconds at a time, after which the world will automatically return to normal, though Niels is able to deactivate it sooner if need be. However, if he has used his Semblance recently then the time it remains active grows shorter and if he overuses it too much it will not activate at all, so it must be used sparingly.

Personality: A wry but cheerful individual, Niels doesn’t quite match up to the standard clean cut and disciplined image people usually have of Atlas students. He strives to maintain an upbeat attitude no matter the situation, though recent events have put that to the test, and believes that always taking steps towards your goal, to never slow down or allow yourself to fall into a rut, is the way to make it through bad times. 

Background: Hailing from Atlas, Niels was a competitor in the Vytal festival tournament alongside his team. Although they didn’t make it past the first round, being taken out by Team CVFY, Niels was still happy to have qualified at all and was looking forward to watching the remainder of the tournament from the audience.

When the White Fang attacked and the Grimm invaded the city Niels and his team fought alongside the other students and protect Beacon and Vale, helping civilians to evacuate and killing Grimm wherever they could. However, when the tower was destroyed by the Grimm Dragon Niels was unfortunately enough to be standing at its base; while the others made it to safety he was pinned underneath the rubble, being knocked unconsciously but otherwise managing to avoid the largest pieces of debris using his semblance. Buried as he was, trapped in a small space formed by the falling rubble, his team couldn’t see whether or not he had survived and with the Grimm closing in they were forced to retreat. The next morning Atlas pulled all of their students out of the area, marking Niels down as MIA and forcing his teammates to leave him behind.

He was eventually freed by a team of Beacon employees and students searching for people among the wreckage, tired and thirsty but otherwise okay. Finding his team and the rest of the Atlas students gone and with transports to Atlas being few and far between it looked like Niels was stuck in Vale for now.
