In a noble family that has persisted for decades, many traditions have come in gone as they have entered into modern times to keep their family as successful as it is. A few are followed strictly.
1. All children are to be raised as humbly as possible. Be it through public schooling or otherwise.
2. Heirs of the clan are selected through meritocracy of those eligible when the current head is ready to retire his/her position. Children of the head are only heir in name until this time comes.
3. All marriages must be out of love. Even if one spouse does not agree in the beginning. Strong children are born out of love.
4. Marriages are not restricted by class.
5. One may become betrothed after successfully bringing their intended home (willingly or otherwise) and keeping them there until the wedding.
and 6. Marriage is Forever.
This is a story seed I wish to develop with someone. In which a poor soul (or souls if we double) is chosen to marry into this family. The other extended memebers of this family will also be making appearances with 'spouses' being in varyig levels of sanity, stockholm syndrome or otherwise. Some will be in love with their jailers, some went willingly (for golddigging and/or romantic reasons) in the first place, and a good chunk taken (some giving up and others still trying to escape).
