From an Corsair II to an Intruder? I think someone may be a Dale Brown fan.

Would a Panavia Tornado be out of the question?

Haven't decided yet. At least in Ace Combat's structure of unlocks (from which I am taking heavy inspiration), the Tornado always comes after the A-10 (correct me if I'm wrong), which itself comes after the A-6. Again, though, haven't decided yet. I may change things around.

Are you sure you don't mean Mr. Stephen Coonts, rather than Dale Brown? (though I am a fan of his stuff too!)
Dale Brown was all about the Heavy bombers (at least in his early books), whereas Coonts is a Navy Veteran, and a lot of his novels feature or mention the Intruder.
I like both, so you're right on both counts though ^^
I've always been a fan of the 'tin tadpole'

Oh damnit, I screwed up. Might have gotten mixed up between Flight of the Indruder and Flight of the Old Dog.

From what I can remember, the Tornado usually unlocks around the same time as the F-14, or shortly after. The Tomcat is usually in the tier of planes unlocked after the A-10, which is usually just after the F-16.
It kind of depends on which game you're basing the aircraft 'tree' on, because it can vary quite extensively.

Plus it was only really a tree in AC5. Everything else was a linear progression.

I thought the Hawk was unlocked after you had finished the mission when you have to flee from Hamilton when escaping Sand Island.
Or am I just crazy and in desperate need of a replay of AC5? :P

I'm wondering about that too, but I'm wondering if it's because Heartbreak One is the first mission you can do after that where you don't have to use a naval aircraft, maybe?

That said, I also need to replay Ace Combat 5 too.

Nope; only Mission 20 and Mission 26 force carrier jets.

You get the Hawk right after the mission where you use it, but after that, there's a long pause of no unlocks (except for kill rate related stuff) until Heartbreak One when you get the MiG 1.44. The only missions, if I recall correctly, where you absolutely must use a naval aircraft are Ancient Walls and Sea of Chaos, and after SoC you can choose any planes, which will be the ones you fly until the end of the game.

EDIT: Gah, ninja'd, by eleven minutes. The shame!

Well, it's been ages since I played it, so that's my excuse. And also why I'm going to play it now!

Wish I could, but my PS2 is bust and my PC is in bits right now and I can't be bothered to hook it all back up. And it doesn't run the emulator well either.
