The silver haired boy watched Cecilia from a nearby pockmark within the ruined wall, balanced with one foot on a broken statue and another on a crumbled archway, both leaning over the breathless height. Ciel admired Cecilia's grace through the air, having confidence enough to mark her final jump with a flamboyant flair. It was a wonder why Vinians didn't practice such mobility magic, when every time one wished to have a drink they would have to traverse cliffs, smoothed bare by relentless sea wind. Perhaps they had just adopted to it, ingraining climbing into instinct and no longer needing arcane assistance to know to take advantage of every crevice, every dent, every ledge to make their daily ascent and descent. And the fact that Ciel barely weighted much let him easy access to much of the tower wall, which was much more inviting to climb than the usual cliffs. He stopped occasionally to circle around the tower, making sure that the bard and his group wasn't secretly circling their way back, then resuming his skips and jumps across exposed fortifications to his perch just above the hole. His tattered cloth fluttered as Ciel gingerly tested the integrity of the crystalline structures above him. Crystals were getting a lot denser at the top, although that didn't stop Ciel from trying to route out a path further above the hole, all the way to the top. There was a very good reason for why Ciel was trying hard to earn his keep. Ciel was given cookies. Cookies. It was beyond a luxury within the city walls, and was regarded as a fantasy to even the most opulent syndicates. Merchants carrying them wisely skirted the city proximities, and a gold coin spent on getting expendable luxury was better off accuring arms and food. Ciel once heard a joke about cookies being the best measure of popular support, though at the time he didn't really understand what cookies were. And now there was one safely, dearly tucked away in his bindle. If there was a reason to stick to this group in particular, he would no longer have to look further. If Ciel was going to thank Cecilia for the grant, it would be through his actions.
