PMA resides in the mysterious and beautiful lands of the Marvalo Archipelago region, located several hundred miles Northeast of the Johto region. A melting pot of sorts, Marvalo is home to a myraid of different cultures, traditions, and customsโ€“โ€“ common and uncommonโ€“โ€“ from all over the globe. Rich with flora, fertile lands, and an abundance of complex ecosystems, it's no wonder that pokemon of all species and types call Marvalo home. PMA touts the best education for professional pokemon trainers to be all over the globe. Quite literally built as a castle, the school was established hundreds of years prior, and has been building it's reputation steadily ever since. Shrouded in secrecy and cultural history alike, the campus is beautiful and spacious, filled with ornate architecture, twisting corridors, secret passageways. Acres of green stretch on, turning into verdant territories brimming with pokemon. The dormitories are roomy, with four-poster beds and cozy rugs. A placid lake rests on the grounds and is a frequented spot by students. To top it all off, PMA is surrounded by the capital of Marvalo, Balamla City, a bustling city that attracts talent and events from all over. Curricula consists of state of the art practical and simulated battle exercises. Those who feel they may be trapped between the stale walls of the classroom will be pleasantly mistaken, as budding PMA professionals will regularly conduct field research and go on expeditions to improve their real-world, practical skills. There is no shortage of classes offered, and every pokemon profession from ranger to champion is covered by the school's education. But perhaps the biggest prize of all are sponsorships by the school, and subsequently companies worldwide, for budding trainers. PMA's influence is powerful, and it pulls in money from all over. The top, exemplary students who truly distinguish themselves are the ones who earn this privilege, living the rest of their school days out on their sponsored journey. And the top few that receive these sponsorships typically end up, unsurprisingly, well-known and with a solid footing in the world of pokemon. It's one of the reasons so many people apply, and why PMA's curricula is so rigorous. So here, you'll find magic within the walls and a place for you to hone your skills as the pokemon master you always dreamed of becoming. You'll go on a journey with your pokemon and friends, and you'll become stronger than ever before. You'll explore the passages of the school, you'll unravel mysteries. You'll also probably get into fights and get your ass kicked. But hey, this is your story and you're going to make something of yourself.

๐™ฅ๐™ก๐™–๐™ฎ ๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™ฎ๐™ก๐™š.
Hello! Welcome to this Pokemon Academy roleplay. I really wanted to create sort of prestigious boarding school academy rp with Harry Potter like adventures but set in pokemon. It's kind of combining slice of life aspects with combat, action, and adventure. OOC will also happen in discord (which I will start once I figure out who the cast is). In this RP, I will act as the GM, controlling the world and plot elements and most NPCs. I'll control your encounters, though we can expand on that more in a bit. I'll pretty much be creating events and plots for your characters to go through! This will be a blend of your characters following an overarching plot together while still having some individual free time to do explore, train, develop, or whatever you want your character to specifically do. With this all said, please keep in mind that my word is the final one in terms of deciding what happens. YC will be 16 years old, a transfer sophomore at this selective academy with a student body of 300 students. YC will also be able to start off with one pokemon, and will be able to collect more (of course) as the RP goes on. Be as creative as you want with your character's backstory. Let me know how you want your character to affect the story or be affected by the story. Incorporating character elements in plot is always fun. I will be using dice to figure out character outcomes for actions and such. As for my rolls, I'll be using a mixture of logic with random chance, rule of cool, and a dash of spice to decide your outcomes. Use whatever pokemon you want, as game stats will just be used a loose reference. For example, a Shuckle has a poor speed stat as they're generally slow. No fighting that, but this doesn't mean your Shuckle can't still become a champion pokemon. You needn't worry about your pokemon's stats, as they can be trained to be excellent even if their stats are garbage initially. Similarly, levels will be more of a background mechanic in this RP. They don't need to be mentioned IC, and your pokemon will autolevel naturally throughout points in the story; I don't want to have people posting training posts just so their pokemon can level up because that seems very grindy. Just focus on the story and having fun adventures with your pokemon. They will get stronger organically, just like they would in the anime if that makes sense. However, pokemon can only use four of their moves per day. That means one day your Shinx could use Fire Fang, Ice Fang, Thunder Fang, and Tackle. Another day, another battle, that Shinx could use Growl, Leer, Charge, and Bite. HMs are unnecessary. They will exist as attack moves, but they're more like regular TMs than not. Pokemon are going to be using the most current and updated movesets, but will have all moves obtainable from other games. Let me explain: In pokemon Let's Go you can teach a Lapras Teleport, and you can also transfer that Lapras to Sword and Shield. Lapras would then legally have Teleport as a move in the most current game. This is pretty much how I'm going to be ruling for most moves: if a pokemon can legally have the move in sword and shield or ultra sun/moon, then it's likely fine. Sword and Shield got rid of some moves however, and if you feel like a move should exist, you can let me know. Abilities will also reflect SS and USUM; again, this may be confusing because some pokemon can exist in both, some pokemon can exist in only one or the other. So let's say this: If a pokemon exists and SS and USUM: The pokemon's most updated abilities and moves will come from sword/shield. For all other pokemon, we'll be using USUM. Pokemon can learn moves via move tutors (typically takes a week), TMs (instantly), or training (1 month). Pokemon can change their abilities using ability capsules. That's a rarer item that we'll touch on later, but just wanted to let it be known.

We'll basically go through the storyline where I GM and create a post, interacting with your characters. You then respond to me. Sometimes your characters will be together, and other times they won't be. At certain break points in the story, you'll be able to do what you'd like to do. Fight a gym leader? Sure. Run for student president? Sure. Go on a field trip somewhere, go for it. I also encourage you to go on quests and side stories together! This will be a casual rp, where you don't need to write long replies, but you can if you want to. The minimum is 5 sentences, seriously that's it. I'd like for us to post once every two weeks, but sometimes life gets in the way. Let's just communicate, be honest, and make sure that if we feel like there's a problem, we can reach a solution together. Here are some of the things you can do IC: Classes: Your characters will have classes, and they may or may not be together in them (that's for you to decide) but for the sake of keeping everything on one timeline in this RP, all of YC's classes will start at 7:30 am and end at 3:15 pm Monday through Friday. Everything else is free time. That's about it! Gyms or Battling Gym leaders: Occasionally, gym leaders will come to the campus and fight students. Or, YC can travel to anywhere in the region and fight a gym leader at their gym. These are going to be the field trips and such-- they will last a week a most before your character goes back to the academy. Contests: Same as above, contests can take place at the school or anywhere in the region. YC can travel if you'd like a change of setting! Exploring Balamla: the capital city always has plenty of things to do, from going shopping to eating at cafes, perusing museums, investigating research centers, or even going to the local parks and battling other trainers. There will also be IC events and general activities going on that your character can always check out. General training: Pokemon can get training from all sorts of different tasks, you can go up against other trainers on campus, your fellow players, or even go for something like an obstacle course. In this RP, pokemon are going to auto-level to prevent grindy training posts, but if you want extra levels that's fine too. Traveling and exploring outside: If you'd like your character to explore more outside the school and throughout the region, that's totally possible as well, although this will open up later in the rp after some plot occurrences >:D

Battling will take place in a variety of ways, and those ways will be explained below. Players have 3 weeks to write their responses to battles. Any longer and the character who took over 3 weeks to respond will automatically lose/draw in that match. This is just so that we can keep this RP moving along! Some battles may take a naturally long time to reach their conclusion even with people posting their responses frequently; if that happens, no worries. We can keep the main storyline going, but also set up a google doc to continue the battle in parallel. That way, people don't have to wait for the battle to finish before the main storyline can continue. Fast Battles We don't necessarily have to battle turn by turn in every case. So we'll be doing an alternative called Fast Battling. You'll announce that you want to Fast Battle a trainer. I'll let you know what pokemon that trainer has; then, you can say what strategies you will use in order to defeat the trainer. As the GM, I'll consider how effective these strategies will be and then write down a summary of the entire battle and its results. Ex. Maybe you have a Marill and want to use it against an opposing trainer's Turtwig. You can explain what strategy you want the Marill to take; like maybe you want the Marill to use Sing until the Turtwig falls asleep. Then perhaps you explain after the Turtwig has fallen asleep, you want your Marill to use Rollout. If the Turtwig doesn't fall asleep after maybe 3 turns, then you'll have Marill use Defense Curl and then Rollout in succession instead. After you've announced the strategy you're going to take with your pokemon, I'd take my dice and then figure out how successful your strategy against the Turtwig was. Fast battling is good for fights against NPC opponents that are similar to your level or lower. But for much stronger opponents or storyline battles, we'll stick to a more turn by turn based format, where it's easier to switch up your strategy on the fly. Full Battles These are battles with each turn rp'd out, just like you might see in the anime or the games. Every turn the players will write what move/strategy they want to take for that turn, and I will roll the dice to see what outcomes are the result. These battles will primarily be used for important storyline moments or for PvP.

Everytime you create a post IC you will get one post point. You can accrue these post points and use them for re-rolls in the RP. 15 Points will give you one re-roll, so 15 posts gives you one re-roll. Additionally, you will not be able to use re-rolls in certain cases up to my discretion as the GM.

I can really only accept four or five people for this! Character submissions are due midnight August 8th. I'll be closing submissions after to select the cast. Hooray and thank you [@LuckyBlackCat] for being co-gm! Thanks!
