So I had my character sheet almost done for a while now. But since you put up the OOC, I decided to finish him, and here he is.

[b]Background:[/b] Kai was born into a dying world. Both of his parents were prominent scientists in New Zealand, having made their fortune designing genetically modified crops that are near indestructible. However that massive success did seem almost pointless as the Earth itself was doomed. But then the Phoenix Project began, a way of saving humanity. Kai’s parents would work on the project, helping design the bio-domes that would house plant life aboard the ships. It was during this period of work that they were selected by the lottery to have a child that would be on one of the ships.

Kai’s parents would take this opportunity to create the best possible child for the survival of humanity. They would invest most of their money into pursuing genetic modification for the fetus in the womb. While this technology had been around for a while, it was prohibitively expensive and looked down on by certain groups. But Kai was modified anyway, being born perfect in size and weight. He would also learn to walk and speak much sooner than other children, and would begun schooling a full two years earlier then average.

Kai’s parents would steer him in the direction of biology from a young age, as that was what they knew. As a child Kai would involve himself heavily in the conservation of the native species of animals of New Zealand. He would start a petition to have these animals included aboard the colony ships, as a way of preserving Earth’s rich bio-diversity.

Kai would graduate from university at the age of fifteen, earning a degree in biology. Following his completion of his academic studies, Kai would begin training for his time aboard the colony ship. Kai underwent basic astronaut training, quickly becoming proficient with the systems of a colony ship. He would also do supplemental studies, such as medical so that he could be a back-up doctor, or using a rifle to defend his crew from any potentially dangerous wild life.

It was two years into his training that higher ups at the Phoenix Project recognized his knowledge and skill. Kai was assigned the position of Chief Biologist aboard the Ursa Minor, the last of the colony ships. While it excited Kai to be given such a prominent position, it also meant that the finality of his life on Earth was coming.

In the weeks leading up to the launch of the Ursa Minor, Kai was a wreck emotionally. But he forced himself to work through it, saying goodbye to his family and beloved planet. When the time came to launch, Kai decided not to go see his parents as it would be too painful. So instead he remained on the bridge as it launched.

As Kai was going into stasis, he knew that the sun was going to consume the Earth any time now. It was with this painful knowledge that Kai went into the long sleep, hoping that he would find happiness on the world they were headed to.
