And I think the main reason why Thierry is so infatuated with Nick is his work ethic. He doesn't have to explain to Nick where he was on such and such day/holiday/birthday because Nick has been just as absent, if not more due to his behavioral issues.

That and the sort of [i]fatherly[/i] aspect to the relationship that it started out as. I know, it's sad that he craves being a father of his children, but feels his children don't need him like that anymore. So it's kinda like he's making up for lost time, but in the worst way possible.

In reality, I don't think Thierry is truly in love with Nick either, but he [i]is[/i] in love with the idea of being in love and taking care of somebody. Oh... and midlife crisis relationships are fun to write and read!
