[@MrCellophane] Are those books good by the way? If you read them that is, I seen it advertised on audible? I tend to lean more to warhammer 40k and other stuff, but I enjoy some variety in my work listening.
Well, they're def. not 40K in style; Weber does deeper character exploration and looking at the 'macro' perspective of wider conflict, as well as the personal journey of Honor and those she associates with. The battle scenes, however, are definitely something different - you have to take physics and 'space-to-time and distance' into account when dealing with the foe, for example, and if you're getting into laser or graser range, you've REALLY messed up (though it was an earlier form of warfare in the RMN's history). I personally enjoyed the heck out of them. If you want to start, I'd actually start with Books One and Two - 'On Basilisk Station' and 'The Honor of the Queen' - and see whether they're your thing.
