His right leg from the knee down is an augmented limb, the result of a desperate attempt to survive a bite during an ambush in the early days after The Fall. His augment is clunky but effective, cobbled together from salvaged materials and patched up by Doctor Taylor’s research as an experimental project.[/color]

[color=cornflowerblue]Born and raised in rural Colorado, Sawyer grew up hunting and working on his family’s ranch. After joining the military at 18 and later transitioning into a role in law enforcement, he built a reputation as a reliable and efficient officer. He eventually served as a SWAT team leader, but after a botched raid led to civilian casualties, he resigned in shame and retreated to the mountains, living off the grid.
When The Fall began, Sawyer was already prepared for the worst. Isolated but not immune to the spread, his small community in the mountains tried to protect themselves, but they were eventually overrun. Sawyer lost his family to the undead and barely escaped with his life, but not before suffering his own bite. Immune to the infection, Sawyer didn’t turn, but his leg was too damaged to save. With no medical facilities available, he amputated his own leg with the help of another survivor and jury-rigged a crude mechanical replacement.
Sawyer’s skills as a survivalist and his instinct for leadership became valuable to the scattered remnants of humanity. He found his way to Timber Ridge Settlement, where his knowledge of tactics and hunting kept the small population fed and relatively safe. However, his past haunts him—his cynicism and guilt over his failures push him to remain distant from those around him, even though they rely on him for protection.
Sawyer crossed paths with Doctor Cassidy Taylor when the settlement needed augmentation expertise for his leg. While he’s still skeptical of her methods and struggles with phantom pain and glitches in the prosthetic, he appreciates her determination and keeps a close eye on the experiments she runs, ready to intervene if things go wrong.

Sawyer is driven by a desire to make up for the lives he couldn’t save before, but he struggles with trust and fears getting too close to anyone again, knowing how quickly everything can be lost.[/color]
