“Nice to meet you, Annie,” King said with a smile. 

When he asked about the others aboard the [i]Elizabeth[/i], Annie said, "You are the first person to come from the sea. Did you swim here?"

King laughed. “From Newfoundland…? No.”

He noticed she didn't react to his mentioning of the island from which he and the others had departed. He wondered if she had ever heard the name. [I]Another time,[/i] King told himself. 

“Can we walk the shoreline?” he asked. “I'd like to see if anyone else made it. I can't believe I'm the only one.”
