[@Bacon] This. In my opinion the strength of Fate is that it is designed to reward players when they think in terms of ups and downs, getting themselves into interesting scenario's, etc., instead of just auto-succeeding at everything and never really engaging with personal adversity. That requires players to be on that wavelength, though. If they only see the dice rolls as mechanics, it won't work. If they can come to see the dice rolls as being little moments of tension, that's when it comes alive. This is also why we (as GMs) are going to have to make the dice rolls count, insert them at the right moments, etc. We won't be rolling for everything and anything. A general GMing rule of thumb in any system is to only roll when success or failure both can be interesting. Else it's just wasting time. [@duskshine749] True, but you might say that about any RPG. Unless it's completely freeform and the players are in total control, you always have times where you need to wait for GM to resolve important story beats. Besides, there are ways to mitigate this. We can pre-roll defense rolls for enemies, for example, so you as players can check for yourselves on whether attacks succeed or not, and resolve accordingly. [@Kuro] Might feel that way, doesn't have to be. See above. The trick's gonna be to make the system count. We won't be rolling for every single thing, don't worry, and we will implement ways to try to keep the flow going. But it will probably take some experimentation and getting in the flow of things at the start (not gonna lie), and honest feedback, participation, and cooperation from players. If players are pre-determined to not be on board or to sink the ship, of course it's not going to work. In other words: it's just as much in your hands on whether this succeeds or not ;) I hope this clears things up, and settles any worries people might have had. Remember: this is our hobby too, so as GM's, we're as invested as you guys to make this fun and engaging. As long as everyone stays honest, I wouldn't know why this wouldn't work. As for dice rolls and Discord: we don't have to use it. I already linked another roller above. Those rolls won't be checkable, of course, but we can still use that one and decide to operate on the honor system.
