I was trying to perform the [url=https://swse.fandom.com/wiki/Gather_Information?so=search#Learn_News_and_Rumors]Learn News and Rumors[/url] action detailed on the [url=https://swse.fandom.com/wiki/Gather_Information]Gather Information[/url] page of the wiki. So I guess Vanovar would be scanning HoloNet news broadcasts or perusing information kiosks for the latest major news stories and mingling with the locals to charm the recent popular rumors out of them.

That is a perfectly valid way to go about things and I'm not going to fault you for it. But just as a reminder, more often than not the knowledge and skills of the Player Characters don't tend to line up all that well with the knowledge and skills of the Players.
