The majority of the knights and levies of the Stormlands had left with the Hand of the King Orys Baratheon, and were massacred and ransomed by the Dornish. To make matters worse, the Dornish sailed north across the Sea of Dorne and landed upon the Cape of Wrath, raiding and looting indiscriminately. Their numbers were far too great to allow for direct opposition from the remaining Stormlanders, but this didn't stop the smallfolk peasant known as Tros of the Mistwood from gathering up dozens of insurgents and enacting guerilla warfare against their occupiers. Tros was said to be a beast of a man who could easily choke a man to death with a single arm, and who wielded a battleaxe that could cleave multiple men with a single swing. He helped defend the Tower of Owls, which was from where House Mertyns ruled the dukedom from. Because of his efforts, the siege on the Tower of Owls was interrupted frequently and went poorly. Soon the Dornish had to retreat back to their native lands without sacking it. The Lady of House Mertyns who had been left regent while her husband was away thanked him profusely, knighting him in 12 A.C. and inviting him to remain in the Tower of Owls as one of their men-at-arms. As part of his elevation to Knighthood, he was expected to take form a House and take a last name. He chose the last name Ravencroft, with his sigil being a black raven flying over a red background. He also chose the words "By Cry of Raven We Are Drawn". Ser Tros Ravencroft accepted and became part of the retinue there, and witnessed in horror as near the entirety of House Mertyns died from poisoning, an assassination that was orchestrated by vengeful Dornish after the First Dornish War. This event deeply impacted him, and he swore an oath of revenge against the Dornish for what they had done. He would go on to marry a local peasant girl and have two sons with her named Oryn and Orys. He had both of his sons squire under him, and knighted both. When the Second Dornish War occurred, he and his sons eagerly volunteered to aid in slaying the nefarious Vulture King. The war gave both Oryn and Orys valuable experience in the art of war and emboldened them. When they learned that their enemies Host had swelled to such a size that it had split in half, Ser Tros and his sons were sent by House Mertyns to assist Lord Harmon Dondarrion and Lady Ellyn Caron. Eventually the enemies lines would be shattered and their forces routed, with the Vulture King fleeing back towards Dorne with his ruined army. Lord Harmon and Lady Ellyn would press their advantage, and thus began the Vulture Hunt as they searched for him in the Boneway and the Red Mountains. The man was as elusive as he was cunning, and it was only through the Grace of the Seven that Ser Tros and his sons who came upon the man's relatively small and isolated camp. They considered sending for aid, but were concerned that he would disappear before it could arrive. Ser Tros ultimately made the decision to attack the camp with only his loyal sons and a handful of levies he had brought with him. The battle was brutal, with both the Dornish and the Stormlanders fighting like beasts. Ultimately they did manage to shackle the Vulture King and slay his bodyguards, though it came at Ser Tros Ravencroft's life. The brothers handed the Vulture King over to Lord Dondarrion and Lady Caron personally. For their service, they recommended to Lord Mertyns that they be given lands and titles of their own within the Stormlands. Lord Mertyns agreed, and made Ser Oryn the new Lord of Wrathrock, a island in the Sea of Dorne just off the southern coast of the Stormlands. The island could raise nearly a thousand levies in war time, and had two Castles upon it, one larger than the other. The larger was known as Castle Wrathrock and was given to the elder brother. The smaller castle was named Harchester and was given to the younger brother, making him Lord of Harchester. The island also possessed a bustling harbor town named Darcross. In the year 41 A.C. the Faith Militant Uprising took place, in which the Warrior's Sons and Poor Fellows which were comprised of religious zealots that judge the ruling House Targaryen as being heathens against the Seven.
