Reminds me of the start of this book. This college student is dreaming about this ancient medieval city - it's night and everyone around her is in a panic as something is banging on the other side of these huge metal doors. People stream by without seeing her. Then these guards dressed in black appear, swords drawn, followed by this old man clearly respected by the guards. And as his eyes sweep across the crowd, he locks eyes with her and can clearly see her. He sheaths his sword and starts saying something as he approaches, trying to keep her calm - and she wakes up. The stones under her are cold and people are panicking at this young woman wearing a cowboy shirt who just suddenly appeared in front of them, and she looks up at the old man and asks, "This isn't a dream, is it?" She returns to the dream, and returns a couple of times. Once she's just running over some rocks, being chased by something and knowing if she trips, she's dead. Only when she does trip, she wakes up in bed - but her feet are hurting. They're all cut up by the rocks. The next night, she wakes up, believing she forgot to lock the front door. Only what she finds is the wizard from the first dream sitting in her kitchen.
