Chunks of plaster fell on them as they fell in a heap on the floor, head spinning slightly. Fuck. Assess the damage: sharp pain in chest. Broken rib. Bleeding head, scraped back. Everything ached. Not bad enough that it won't heal before they have to shift back. Vin grimaced as their magical regeneration kicked in, scraped skin where they'd hit the wall closing up. The broken rib would be the last, most painful, but frankly... They didn't give the fuck. The pain fueled them. It had been a while since they fought something that could actually hurt them... Outside of their regular spars with the Boss. And this time it was something that could kill them. It was thrilling. They pushed themselves to their knees in time to see that thing ripping Caleb apart, brutally devouring him as if he was nothing more than a snack. Vin's claws scraped across the wooden floor as they held themselves back from just recklessly attacking it. That fucker. They'd make sure it died in excruciating pain. They'd flay every piece of its skin off, their Black Lux seeping into it until it was in agony. Only then would they end it's miserable fucking life. ”Malik, go call backup. This ain’t just a normal fuckin’ apparition! You ain’t prepared- get Marco! I can fuckin’ take it, I’ll just need the healin’ after.” Vin hissed, eyes narrowing at the creature. Two deaths was enough- Wait, not two. What the fuck? The nosey lady was still alive. It... Missed? Twice? Three times? Fuck, Vin didn't have the time to think about it. Their eyes moved back to the doppelganger, looking at it like a predator observing its prey. They’d underestimated it. Not anymore. Their yellow eyes darkened as they started to attune to it. Black Lux spilled across them, defensive attunement entwining with the Apparition damaging they’d already cast across themselves. The Doppelganger was surrounded by a fuzzy black light that only Vin could see. Now they could fight it head on. It wouldn’t be throwing them around again. They wouldn’t fucking let it. With their Black Lux cast so heavily, Vin made the quick decision to not adjust their Beast form. More additions would just make them weaker. This one was all they needed to fight it… and they’d tear it to pieces. Vin finally pushed themselves to their feet, fully attuned to the doppelganger. Paloma was still alive, thankfully (as much as her screams nearly killed Vin’s hearing), but she was trying to… talk to it? She may have been talking quietly, but unfortunately for her, tigers had incredibly sensitive hearing. Vin caught every word. What did she want from David Smith? Did they care? Not really, but he had a feeling if killed the fucking thing before she got her answer they’d never be rid of her. So they’d beat it to near death, let her ask her questions, then kill it. ”You ain't done a fuckin' interrogation before, have you? You gotta fuckin' hurt it first!” Vin growled, launching themselves across the room to slam into the doppelgangers back. One hand grabbed hold of it, claws digging into its flesh. The other grabbed its spear-like appendage, trying to twist it backwards. ”Once I’ve torn its limbs off it’ll talk.” Then they bit down on where the ‘arm’ met the main body, with enough strength to snap a bone in half.
