Born to a poor family who neglected her and her siblings, Maeve set out to be different than her parents. Putting herself fully into her schoolwork and leaving home as soon as she turned 18 she persisted through many tribulations. A night in college where her roommate and best friend was attacked sent her reeling upon which she discovered her powers, feeling intense sadness and anger emanating from her roommate. The vivid description provided from her best friend manifested in an intense visual scene played out for authorities, who were quick to paint Maeve as the enemy rather than the perfect witness. Maeve decided then and there to work with people to provide them mental health aid. Switching majors and achieving high honors through undergraduate and graduate schools and obtaining her PhD on the foundation on 'Superhero Mental Health: Heroes Needing Heroes', she made a name for herself. She became a well-known therapist for superheroes and joined with the Avengers Academy and the Pych Hospital - CAGE.
