Victoria possesses vast psionic abilities; in other words, she is a psychic. While primarily psychokinetic in effect, it also grants them wide-scale and personal telepathy and allows the use of an ability known as “shifting”; which broadly speaking is the ability to swap the locations of chosen targets within a certain range.

On Adrian’s side of the equation, he can alter the shape and composition of his body at will. This power extends further than just biological changes, as it is fully capable of altering a body into inorganic materials, allowing the formation of weapons or other such objects. It also provides them with significantly increased physical and regenerative abilities. On a deeper level, it is also capable of rendering them immune/highly resistant to hazardous substances and pathogens by making changes to their inner biology.

The same incident that led to their conjoined existences also essentially neutered their respective abilities to a degree. Because they exist within the same “space” Adrian and Victoria cannot simultaneously be present at any one moment.

Victoria’s weaknesses are more on her physical side. While her psionic abilities are quite potent, her body is rather more frail in comparison. Average at best by just about every physical metric, she relies entirely on her powers in battle, which means she is all but helpless if they ever malfunction unless power-sharing. Furthermore, since her powers are mental-based, disrupting her focus would render her incapable of bringing them fully to bear.

Adrian can only change certain sections of his body into inorganic materials at a time, i.e., he cannot make his skin, bones, and muscles into “steel” at once. In addition, despite his body’s high fortitude and adaptability, he is still vulnerable to extreme temperatures to significant degrees depending on his current composition.

The pair cut quite the contrasting figures.

Victoria is an upbeat and cheerful person, though her heart remains heavy from her tortured past. Soft-spoken and friendly despite her looks, she prefers to see the good in people and is an optimist at heart. While she can be rather socially inept at times, she is more than willing to go out of her way to understand people even if the sentiment isn’t reciprocated. Adrian is much less energetic and more reserved than friendly, though he does have a dry sense of humour that he displays once in a while. His social skills are not much better than those of his counterpart, though he is more aware of them and acts accordingly.

While they may have disagreements on what methods to use, at the end of the day, they both share the same thoughts and goals about the world. The good, the bad, and the weird included.

The former individuals who would come to be known as Rift came from contradictory beginnings.

The girl who would eventually come to call herself Victoria was a chained soul for as long as she could remember. Her powers manifested essentially the moment she was born, and the resulting reactions from her parents were less-than-stellar. Distorted preconceived notions clouded their minds and fueled their already fervent bias. Through no fault or act of her own, her fate was already set. Instead of love and adoration, her birth was met with nothing but fear and loathing. So when an offer was made to take her off their hands for a considerable sum, they didn’t hesitate, didn’t ask questions. And there began the prologue to a tragedy. For all involved.

Despite its name, Lux Labs was not quite as accomplished nor as well-known as the Ascension Labs of Auroran Spire. That image, however, worked well in their favour, allowing them to do as they pleased without public scrutiny. It was also the only place that, for much of her life, Victoria could call home, even in the loosest sense of the word. And yet, despite her acceptance of that status quo, she was under no delusions that, for all the supposed freedom she had, she was anything but a prisoner. After all, what unchained person had to follow the same rules as she did? What unchained person was trapped inside a box where no light could ever reach?

Adrian Steele was an unfortunate man. Unlike his partner, he was not born with powers, though that fact did not make his life any easier. At a young age, orphaned and alone, he fell in with the wrong crowd, doing whatever he wanted and making himself a problem for everyone around him. It didn’t take long for that lifestyle to come to an end, and yet, once again he found himself involved with a group of questionable individuals; soldiers of fortune. They were the type to not ask questions as long as he could pull his weight, so pull his weight he did.

As fate would have it, their two paths crossed in a maelstrom of gunfire and death.

In their final moments, they reached out to each other, and their powers responded.

And thus, a Rift was made.

Victoria is a slender, silver-haired young woman of below-average height, though her presence is much larger. She dresses like a stereotypical rebellious teenager, with all-black clothing and contrasting accessories. Her eyes constantly emit a soft, eerie purple glow mostly visible in the dark.

Standing over six feet tall and bearing a lean, solidly built physique from years of intense physical activity, Adrian cuts quite an imposing figure when he wants to. His slightly dishevelled dark hair falls to his shoulders with a series of bangs framing his features. His golden, feline irises give off a sense of something unnatural lurking beneath, though they are usually hidden beneath a pair of sunglasses.

Victoria has no experience in hand-to-hand combat and she knows that quite well, preferring to stay at range to neutralise her opponents.
