Once the trade was complete, there was an eerie stillness between the two groups before Deathstroke and his party withdrew with Metamorph in tow, leaving the Team to stomach the failure of losing a member to their foe. One might have expected the ride back to the Secret Sanctuary to be quiet but it was far from that. With the jet on autopilot, each member of the voices their discontentment with what occurred until they reached Mount Justice. The Team was allotted half an hour to collect their thoughts for the debriefing. In the debriefing room, the Team, all except Cora who was pushed in a wheelchair, walked in and took their places around the table with Metamorph’s spot left vacant. It took little time at all for the large monitor in the debriefing room to power on, revealing none other than Batman, the Dark Knight. “Before we begin, I know what occurred on your mission and I also understand how many of you may feel… To lose one of your own, especially for those of you who have been alongside Metamorph since the establishment of this initiative. If I was aware…” He paused, though it was hard to tell what he was feeling for the Team beneath his cowl. It was only the slight difference in the tone of his voice that gave away his empathy. “The Justice League will focus our efforts and resources toward Metamorph's safe return. I understand some of you may feel responsible. For his loss. For his return. But you need to allow the League to shoulder these burdens as the risk is too great. Deathstroke and his benefactor are likely expecting you to react recklessly in retaliation. Add their knowledge of the Team's activities, and it will only lead to giving them more than they could ever ask for or worse, they could take consequential action against our goal. Recovering Metamorph.” “Though your mission was one staged by Deathstroke, your abilities to react to the circumstance demonstrates your growth as a team, especially alongside peers with less time working cohesively with you… Nymph, you led the Team this time around, so it's only fitting that you be the first to speak on the mission.” “Right yes….” Daphne stopped slouching and concentrated on Batman’s face on the monitor. “First off I’ll say that my navigation through the swamp could have been more accurate and faster.” She paused, choosing her next words carefully. Her desire not to be viewed as weak by the others increased with each of her failures. She’d been determined to master her new powers quickly, but even she knew faking it would not help anyone. “I noticed that my green speaking was amplified after waking from my coma. The range and intensity of it is something I’m getting used to.” “As far as splitting up our team into two squads…” She shot a nervous glance at Viktor who gave her a single nod of encouragement. “The outside squad had the goal of distracting the enemy and I was very focused on that. So much that I lost track of what everyone was doing. The enemies just kept coming and when the meta-humans joined in I wanted to incapacitate them as quickly as I could, so that the Team would be safe.” “So then…” There was more she wanted to add but at the same time she didn’t know what else to say. “Daphne.” Viktor he titled his head down toward himself, silently asking her to allow him to continue. Daphne nodded, clenching her hands together in her lap. Viktor cleared his throat as he decided he would start from the beginning. “I would like to correct a few things Nymph briefed. Firstly, despite her complications with her abilities, Nymph was able to successfully lead the team as close to the enemy as the swamp allowed us. We dismounted and engaged a meta who was threatening a civilian. He was saved and we pushed onward. The element of surprise appeared to be in our favor, so I suggested the team split into two groups. Nymph made the decision that allowed some of the team led by myself to infiltrate the base while the others engaged the enemy combatants. Because of her decision, my team was able to secure the objective with the intention to extract from the site…” Viktor frowned with a slight pause. “Stormcaller was then incapacitated by the enemy and Metamorph patched into our comms, informing us that our situation was a trap. We moved to continue with our plan to extract but within the chaos, Nymph was abducted without our knowledge and was then used as a means to trade Metamorph in exchange for her life… I made the call to commit to the exchange. Based on my past experience, I knew Deathstroke wanted Metamorph alive. We were able to retrieve his mask that he left behind and I think it could prove to be a means to tracking him down. I see no reason that he'd discard it the way he did. In the end, we executed the exchange and extracted from the site.” Viktor glanced at Daphne, giving her a nod of appreciation with the slightest of smiles. “Excellent brief. Deliver the mask to the Watchtower after we've concluded.” Viktor gave Batman a nod. “Would anyone else like to chime in, about anything that occurred?”
