Marlena comes from a family of two. Before that was her name, she and her older sister, Jules, had to witness the death of their mother after she couldn’t possibly get any more sick. After that, it was just them and their dad. Though, it wasn’t exactly that simple. Both Marlena and Julia were born with mutant genetics, and Marlena’s powers made themselves known long before her older sister’s. Growing up in a big building, in an even bigger city, there were always a lot of faces around and not many quiet spaces to hide away in. Between the hours of school and the late evenings, Marlena had a habit of pulling away and not telling dad or her sister where she’d go. Sometimes she’d just take a walk, or skate around and [i]probably[/i] hang out with someone who was chill enough about her. But there were always nights when Marlena was the only person awake in the entire apartment building, coming back at midnight because she felt like staying out longer.

Sometimes, she’d be up even later than that. All those hours spent awake when the city was asleep were spent grappling with a secret she kept. That secret was her powers, she’d developed the ability to move things with her mind. Marlena could propel herself along on a skateboard without her feet ever moving to push the ground. She’d keep a knife with her in case someone stalked her, and she could twirl it above her hand like she was a damn wizard. The world didn’t typically mind mutants when they were on a screen, flexing their powers while they fought bad guys and saved the world- When they were palatable. The fact that she herself was a mutant made sense in a way. Marlena couldn’t recall having a breakdown, any kind of early-life crisis about what her future would be. She was already the kind of person that a lot of people didn’t want to share a planet with, what difference did this make?
