Fenna's beam fired from her spear and hit the mountain. There was a delayed few seconds where nothing happened, then another rumble started. This one shook the mountain, frightening all at the Citadel who had never felt the mountain shake with such force. All they would hear was thunderous cracks as rocks split and stone crumbled. They thought it was the end of them. But it was not. A section near the top of the mountain on the south facing side started to come away. Not so much that the Citadel District was in any danger, but enough that an avalanche came down on the lower part of the slopes. Giant rocks poured on the Bone Legion, crushing and destroying everything in wake. When the dust settled, the Citadel Command would report that a fifth of the Bone Legion had been destroyed and a massive wall of rubble and boulders was blocking the roads up the slopes. It was a miracle. The Bone Legion had been halted, but they would not be stopped indefinitely. The skeletons immediately began to climb and clamber up and over, emotionless and undeterred. A section of Clerics were able to peel off and cast large healing spells that would save many Crystal Bearers who had the capacity to receive such direct life magic. Those Crystal Bearers would take the places of non-combat personnel who'd been dragged into battle, and those personnel could be better used for defensive repair, message running and assisting in life-saving medical attention for soldiers. Wizards were able to restrengthen magic barriers and continue to fight the critical chess match of Counter Spells and Dispels that was constant in the air between both armies. And more attack minded mages would slow the swell of enemy forces threatening to burst the dam, by launching devastating attacks. Alison was left untouched, her weapon still holding part of the knee of the knight that she'd been stuck to. Many of Saladin's mages, who were starting to mount up as more and more of the army organized on the far side of the river, had aimed to stop the devastation of so many massive tree trunks that were coming across the bridge, stopping many but not all. Adam had drawn their attention yet again and slowed the increasing pressure on the defenders. It had been a miracle that the Bone Legion hadn't yet blocked off the path of retreat of the garrison. But thanks to the avalanche, there was a window of time available to use. And he also had a feeling that the Bazaar was in capable hands. Whoever was leading at The Bazaar, Thorn knew that it was not his Vice-Commander. Jeremiah had a specific colored signal vibration that hadn't pulsed in ages. He was dead. But the man or woman who'd taken over was good, his gut told him. He would trust their judgement and capability, until the very last moment he could, then order a retreat. Because The Last Stand would need all of the preamble it could get. ______________________________________________ The squadron of Knights of Terequette who were layered with enchantments of body and weapon had proven the first worthy match of the adventurer parties. Not man to man, but strong enough that the flood of other knights and Orc Heavies in support could break through the lines with more regularity. The 3 Adventurer Parties were pushed back so far that soldiers from the garrison were forced to support and the battle for the bridge was almost won, with the defenders hanging on to the last 10 yards with everything they had. Fell Knights began to organize and form up on the far side of the bridge, preparing to charge when the command came. Saladin waited. He would wait until the breaking point and just as the defenders were about to rout, he would send in his elite cavalry to smash them to pieces and tear them apart as they tried to flee. That breaking point was coming soon.
