This is an idea I've had rumbling around in my noggin for a while now. Basically in the distant future Humans have expanded out and colonized other worlds in other systems and possibly met other friendly spacefaring races. Now every 30 or 40 years the central galactic government, which I've yet to name, builds a series of Jump Portals that allow ships to "slingshot" out to otherwise unreachable areas of space where they then assemble pre-built return portals. What follows is a rush of colonization as this new frontier of space is slowly tamed over the next few decades while the central government prepare for the next expansion.

Now this RP will initially be set on a single frontier world, that has just recently been colonized and is still very wild and untamed. Raised on stories of how your parents/parent earned their fame and fortune on the frontier during the last planet-rush, you eagerly set off for the new frontier to seek your own adventures. This is just one backstory idea and you are free to come up with your own.

I'd like an active OCC community so that we can work together and think up some fun and dangerous adventures for our characters to have on this frontier world and, depending on the successfulness of this RP I might start another one on a new world, with new dangers and new adventures. We'll be able to bring our experienced characters to this new world, or make new ones, and new people can join in.

Anyway thats my idea and where I'd like it to go. Let me know what you all think.

I'm mad at myself because I thought of a porn game (of all things) when I read the summary, with planet rushes and all.

But before deciding interest I'll need more info on the world. What is the player's relation with one another? Do they come from the same ship? How many races are there? What dangers should be expected? How 'Sci-fi' is the technology? Do we have FTL travel or Star Trek replicators?

Either way, I do plan on joining sooner or later.

Looks interesting to me, my only concerns are basically the same as Ether.

- I haven't decided on whether to include any Spacefaring Alien races, but it's something that can be discussed here. What sort of races are you interested in seeing?
- Dangers would be the sort you'd typically expect in frontier/outer-rim space: Pirates, predatory wildlife, exotic diseases and maybe even hostile natives if that's something you'd be interested in.
- Tech level is typical sci-fi, I guess: Robots, holocommunicators, personal shields, datapads, hoverbikes/cars, laser guns (though projectile guns are still available, both the primitive conventional powder type and the more advanced mag-rail type)

If you can think of anything else feel free to post it here. I'm completely open to ideas.

Also this idea looks like it could be fun if enough people join. I'll be keeping an eye on this and maybe I'll join up myself.

Given that this isn't really based off any canon, I think we could "invent" our own alien races if we wanted, possibly based-on, but not directly copying any particular Sci-fi race from popular shows or media. That's just my suggestion, and how I've seen alien or fantasy species handled before. Besides, it leaves it open to some creativity and makes sense with the Frontier settlers/explorers/vagabond kind of feel.

I'm personally thinking something like how Pandora was for Borderlands, it had no actual inhabitants, and everyone who came there is from all manner of places off-world, with all manner of pasts. Not that I'm expecting this to be in any way similar, but hopefully you get the idea.

No problem, then. I personally prefer humans only but a little bit of species variety can't hurt. Based on what you posted, the world has typical Star Wars tech, which is fine (if not a bit overused).

Also, what tone/atmosphere are you aiming for?

I think 3 races would be a good place to start, don't you think? Humans plus two others that make up the... I don't know... Unified Galactic Council? Does that sound like a good name for the government? The UGC.

As for the other two races, lets hear some ideas.

So how about a Technophiliac Insectoid race and a Psionic Humanoid race? They can be our two playable alien races.


And of course there's the humans too.

Everyone knows what humans look like.......I should hope.

But if you insist. When I say humans i'm talking about strange creatures like this one:

I think those race ideas are great. We can say the Technophiliac Insectoids are or were leagues ahead of humans in terms of technological advancement, and upon forming some sort of peace treaty with them humans were able to obtain greater technology and further their space operations. Maybe the insectoids had a big hand in the creation of the portals?

As for the Psionic Humanoids, could it be that their race primarily communicates through telepathy, but to read the mind of a human or other race, they require a touch. Maybe there's a bunch of humans who, for this reason, don't feel like they can trust the Psionic Humanoids, and so we have tension and conflict. Maybe it's just minimal, maybe it's a huge thing.

More ideas?

Some interesting ideas. But what about race names. For the Insectoids i think it should be something insecty sounding. Something with K and T sounds Like the word "chitinous"
And the Psionics should have something smoother sounding, even a bit mystical, maybe?
