They had the perfect lifestyle. With an unlimited source of income with which they could buy anything, even people, life was like a walk in the park for them. Even the husband's cheating didn't faze the wife. After all, if she didn't have him, she wouldn't be able to buy designer clothes every day. And Nightshade knew all of that because she'd been watching them for days. Right now, both of them would be out for hours, which was perfect for her to be slinking around the place, looking for one particular item. The apartment was full of valuables. She couldn't understand how the man could afford some of the things when the rest of them perished outside. Resisting the urge to nick something just to spite them, Nightshade looked on. Her instructions had been clear. Steal the chip, only the chip, with no casualties, and you will be rewarded handsomely. She smiled as she found the safe which she was sure held the item. Instead of wasting her time cracking it, she took off her glove and swept her blade across her palm, barely flinching as a generous amount of blood oozed out of the wound. She placed her palm on the cool surface and watched as the acid began to work its wonders. It was at this crucial moment that the front door opened and the occupants of the apartment came back. "The mayor's dead! I can't believe this!" Nightshade heard a man's voice exclaim. Cursing inwardly, she looked around the room for exits. Her acid still hadn't finished eating through the metal and she needed time. Come on, damn it... she urged silently. "Yes, it will be. Damned terrorists!" she heard the man again. His footsteps sounded like they were coming closer and Nightshade ducked under the bed just as he stepped inside and turned on the light. He was a short, bald man with thinning brown hair wearing a business suit. He was speaking into a phone as he walked into the bedroom. "I don't know how I'm going to get my next shipment...what the hell?" he breathed when he saw the gaping hole in his safe. He couldn't utter another word though as the thief under his bed had rolled out and was holding a knife to his throat. "Say another word and that'll be the last thing out of your mouth," she murmured as she took his phone out of hands and hung up the call. "Open the safe and take out the microchip. Nice and slow." The man obeyed and brought out a small box. On being urged by her, he opened it and showed her a small chip sitting innocently inside it. She smiled and snatched it out of his hands. "It's been a pleasure robbing you. Have a nice day," she said, before knocking him unconscious and letting him fall to a heap on the floor. She then climbed out of the window and quickly made her escape.
