With his opponent turning tail and fleeing, an easy target for the guards above, the Clockwork Man holstered his pistol after deactivating the charging system and carried out a speedy damage assessment. “Damn.” He cursed, turning to look at the damaged reactor behind him. That, and the crystal itself, meant that he had a difficult job ahead of him. He raised one hand to each of the damaged mechanisms, seeking his spirit into them to see what could be repaired quickly and easily. The damage to the reactor had to be contained first, lest the entire building be destroyed, so he shut down some of the reactors essential systems and rewired the others, effectively shutting down the damaged region. It was working at barely half capacity, but it would be enough for now. With his full concentration on the crystal, it came together quickly, in a matter of five minutes at most the entire complex was re-lit and up and running, to a point. The dispersion shield around the Mystan settlement reactivated, driving any remaining Broken Ones from the area or shutting them down outright. It hardly reached half the diameter it had before, but until some experts could repair the reactor that was all the Clockwork Man could manage. His hands slumped to his side in mock exertion, and he looked down at the ground for a long while. “I hope they don’t charge me for the damage.” He said aloud to himself, before walking up towards the sounds of excitement and confusion. Half-hoping to find the foe he had battled with beneath the settlement, but knowing in his heart it was unlikely, he stepped out into the street. “Metal-man!” A small, girlish voice grabbed his attention almost immediately. In the streets, there was debris and rubble, with one half of a broken one being lifted off an injured Mystan. The settlement had fared well, better than he dared hope, though the casualties were still higher than acceptable. “What is it?” He asked the Mystan girl, who of course he had been escorting earlier. “Elder is missing, all the big people are saying it! They took him! Ghost people took him to the skies!” “What! Slow down child, explain what happened.” It took the rest of the night to clear the situation with the Clockwork Man and repair the settlement to some resemblance of its former self. The night had left many dead, and a few missing, the chief among them the Elder of the village. A powerful Technomancer, and a man instrumental in the Clockwork Man’s plans, George was angrier than he had ever been. He sat across from a shard of glass, painstakingly repairing the damage to his body while also working on the mechanical spider and adding the finishing touches to a new grenade. He had work to do.
