Instead, he stands up from the chair and gently lays a hand on her shoulder, his eyes and voice sympathetic as he says, "I'm sorry I brought it up, Hayley. I didn't mean to make you remember those things. If it's any consolation, I hope that poor excuse of a man who was supposed to be your father gets what's coming to him."
