Haha, Blood Bending. Inspired by Avatar? :-) Btw, I was thinking - the leader of the Templar Order (his name escapes me), the one-eyed dude. Is there a Tactics Ogre reference there? There was a one-eyed leader of a templar faction there, too; Lans Tartare. Coincidence or purposeful? 'Cause I loved Tactics Ogre~

Finished up the C.S. I am still not really happy with the story and will probably keep re-writing it if it's accepted to be more detailed and better worded, but four pages is enough for now. Also excited to see missions.

Speaking of being bored, I just reformatted my character sheet for easy reading. Hate how the hider in hider function isn't on the site yet, though.

And is anyone else already excited enough to be making alt characters?

Given how I pretty much spent a day scratching my head figuring out what would work in the history (and eventually putting up something relatively bland), I'd say I REALLY hope he lives XD

Speaking of which, I forgot to ask Bravo about mercenary companies and stuff. Hope these aren't dumb questions.

1. How does merc contracts work here?

2. Any canon lores about mercenary culture? Like common superstition, mercs who are skilled enough to reach almost godlike reps on the battle field, common codes of honor followed by merc companies, etc.

3. How common is a merc, and how often does the realm use merc companies in anything, besides the Papacy's army?

4. Am I free to make up stuff as I go, within reason?

Count Richelieu (Edmond Daring)... I have a few bits to point out that'll need a little work.

#1: Prior to Kouri's return there was no "Renalta" to speak of anymore. Just villages and towns separated into a loose confederation. The history of the entire area for the last 1,000 years can be read in the lore section. Ergo there wasn't really a revolution so much as it was a revival and jubilation.

#2: Treason? Execution? Against farmers? By the most idyllic of all the presented nations?... What did they do, sacrifice children to the blood god? People don't just accuse others of treason and execute them for no reason, there's got to be something more to this, especially in the nation of idealism.

#3: Also Renalta probably doesn't have banks that would give out loans that large to anyone, really. Most people would store their own collected wealth at home, with the rich hiring people to guard it and what not. If banks were a thing they'd be just starting out and struggling to any attention.

#4: Oh and a quick side note is that by the time the kingdom existed, anyone who would have attempted to stop Kouri would have already failed as the gods would already be banished. Anyone trying to stop her from banishing already banished gods would have to be a little insane. ;)

Aside from that the stats and traits appear to check out, so, just fix up that biography there and we should be good.

--Seriously?!

Garren "The Imperial Lion" Halthar requires a little work. I think I wasn't clear in the PM's though, so, my bad.

#1: The civil war of the Imperium didn't start until after the Imperium had fallen. They were pretty much united, though Florence's forces would have been underfunded in taking down Amanda. After all, she's "just one woman", what could she possible do to an entire empire... ;)

#2: You otherwise got it right but just to assure that it's in the right chronological order:
--Amanda discovers first Well of Power.
--Imperium declares war on magic.
--Imperium destroys Mage's Guild.
--Amanda discovers more Wells of Power, one of those destroys the Imperium.
--Maurie becomes a Lich, gathers as many souls as she can which still wander the surface, and dives into a deep cavern system, waiting for the day the Gods would be banished to bring them back.
--Civil War between Florence and his men (wanting to have the right to die) and Maurie and her forces (wanting to survive) starts.
--Kouri & Friends arrive, resolve civil war momentarily by killing Florence (though he'll come back his temporary death would last long enough to banish the Gods and end the pretense of the war).
--Gods banished, Imperium restored.

Work on this a bit for continuity concerns and your character should otherwise be ready to bring about the second coming.

James Schatten is accepted. Also, nice art.

I am definitely in on this, but I have been so exhausted after work the last two days I haven't finished my CS. I will edit this post with it when I finally get it done. Hopefully tomorrow night!!!

We will see.

Eric Oranthar is going to have a few troubles with that history. Rheinfeld is -the- religious center of the world and The Templar Order are quite possible the most fanatically loyal in that regard to their religion. An Aasimar would be beloved unless they did something to tarnish their name, not disdained. Other parts of the world, or the commoners of Rheinfeld who had lived under the boot of the Papacy's unending rule for 400 years might have some hate on for him though, but not the Templar Order.

So, might want to work on that a bit.

Aerandir said
It's up to Brovo but I think it would take a little more years to train, if he didn't have any bow skills or throwing skills it will take longer so it doesn't have to be when he was 18 could be 15 and still be chosen. , and the rangers choose their own apprentice. It's an elite force that is not just something to join and leave. Not everyone can just join. It will make sense for him to join if he was really skilled in sneaking. But again it's up to Brovo or tempest.Just makes more logic to me but I do like the character

Nope.avi

Basically speaking: The King's Rangers pick whom they choose, mentor-apprentice relationships as you said, but a person can learn the art of ranged combat and sneaking quickly enough on their own. Not to mention there are members of the King's Rangers who buck the usual trend, and go with melee focus, or abandon traditional stealth for a more charismatic approach.

After all, the new King's Rangers have only really been a thing for ten years. Prior to that they were living off of one thousand year old legends for guidance.

Hank said
I'm pretty pleased with most of my trait choices but I have to admit I really only went with the Wanderer and Wells of Power because the combination of the two means that sneaking up on Gahrul the ogre is going to be next to impossible.

I'm pretty pleased that we finally have someone who can't be summarized as white human (fe)male.

Albeit yeah. Your trait combinations are... Interesting.

The thing is if we fail, Brovo won't flinch to kill us all. As characters pop up he probably incorporates them somehow into the end game. Because that's just how god damn detail oriented this guy is.AND OH GOD THE CLUSTERFUCKS

This is all that comes to mind about those days. So many people dead. Every battle was tense because everyone knew someone was going to have to step forward and risk their lives defending another, or making a mistake and dying from it.

So much death...

...I wonder how many will die this time.

More like the Batman Gambit and Properly Paranoid tropes. At my worst, The Almighty Xanatos Gambit. I'm a GM. If I'm ever caught off guard that could mean that you little shits might actually win. I can't let that happen. No way.

Kangaroo said
From what I've seen quite common. Brovo is rather ruthless with stupid acts so gotta keep your wits about you.

LoR 1's body count was officially 43 player characters (about half of those being on-screen deaths and the other half being write offs for people who left), tens of thousands of civilian NPC's, hundreds of enemy NPC's. Which included but was not limited to: An Archangel, The Warlord of Southblood, and Marcus whom was Amanda's ex-lover assigned to protect the group.

As a general rule.
Teamwork, tactics, and intelligent thought tends to win the day. If you know the guy with plate mail and a claymore is powerful in melee, don't engage him in melee. Even if your character is also potent at melee, there is something to note about fighting in this RP. Everyone has realistic levels of pain tolerance.

That is, you don't have an HP bar. You have an injury tracker.

Even if you're someone as important as Queen Kouri of Renalta, if you get hit once in a critical area with a lethal blow, you die. In Legend of Renalta 1, the aforementioned Archangel was slain by a pissed off sixteen year old with green hair wielding Dean's hammer, Godsplitter, in one blow, because the Archangel was too arrogant to pay any heed to the little thief.

It's one of the things that has made Legend of Renalta, and its prequels, stand out. Everyone can die, and if you don't think during combat, you will get slaughtered. Numbers matter. The environment you fight in matters. The number of actions you do per post--and subsequently how much time is left for each action--matters. The chain of events you orchestrate determines who lives and who dies, who takes injuries, who is put at risk from your actions.

In exchange, though, this means that even if you end up facing Malaki Duralus or Sarah Darkhammer, if you've got enough intel on them to know their powers and tactics, you have a real shot of taking even those legendary characters down.

Thinking will save your life.

That is all.

Icarus said
It was a simple question. BE PROUD OF WHO YOU ARE.

Oh shut up hippie.

Athos said
Just to be curious, are the player deaths always caused (directly or indirectly) by the player's actions or are some deaths simply unavoidable?

Almost always by the player's actions, or by the actions of their teammates (choose your friends carefully).

Also, as a note, while it may be tempting to go fully cautious and never act unless assured of success, that will pretty much guarantee the worst outcomes possible in most cases. While you can limit the risk of any fight or mystery or dance in a ballroom (reference), you will never fully eliminate risk, and the longer you take to do something (ergo the more cautious you are), the greater the chance that the death and dismemberment that might have happened to you will instead happen to, say, the innocents you are trying to save, or the noble of political power you're trying to win over.

Think. :p

Tan S Lake said
Would it be possible to get a sampling of what the combat and magic looks like? I'm not exactly an experienced RPer, so it'd be good if I could get an idea~Coupla other questions:1) What's the speed of these RPs like? How often will we have the opportunity to post?2) How will the missions be organized? How many players on a mission? And, will each mission have a separate thread?

1) I'm thinking one post a week right now. That's enough time for everyone (myself included--busy RL) to have enough time to respond.
2) 3-5 Players per mission in general, each mission will have a title which you put at the top of your post so finding other posts within your mission group will be easy, and either myself or a co-GM will run each mission consistently and not change hands with them so you get a consistent tone.

Also yes. The 40 character limit is the reason I have co-GM's.

Kangaroo said
Now I just want this to be underway. Ugh I'm gonna be late to the mission selection too, got work all day tomorrow

It's fine, I might be delayed until Saturday to post up the missions due to IRL concerns.

Pseudonym said
Was this to protect your character('s loved ones) from going through repeated traumatic losses throughout the RP? :P

Funny story. Queen Kouri actually took a bullet for Alexandria at one point.

In the finale, she actually, legitimately died, and was brought back by the one "get out of jail free" card I gave the party.

And while having children, she had complications and nearly died.

This woman and family matters are fucking horrible. The dice are just demented with this couple.

So yeah. We could have had a version of Renalta where Kouri did not survive... And yes, I had plans for that too. Xanatos Gambit and all.

Tan S Lake said
Oh yeah, another coupla questions - first, is there any currency system? Second, how quickly will character stats grow? As in, how many stat points is a character likely to earn from a mission? Will we know beforehand what the mission rewards will be?

First: Yes, sort of, kinda. Basically the rule of thumb is the rule of reasonable. If you need some arrows it's assumed you have the pocket change for them. If you need, say, a magical crown jewel...

Second: Character growth will involve choices about what it is you choose to advance yourself in. It's not static growth. At least, not right now. If I find the system isn't working I can easily switch to a more static system.

Azathoth said
He said it was okay for my character to have a childhood friendship with Amanda.

Confirmed.

Note to self: With new PM system I should see if I can't drag Kadaeux and Tempest into GM level discussions. They're co-GM's. This shit would help.

Pseudonym said
Ooooh, that does lead to an interesting question; can characters choose their missions or are they relegated them? Tristan will go if he has a choice to go with Cristoff (what with, you know, the whole brother killing prophecy and avoiding questions about Devan's death and all). On the other hand, if we're relegated the missions Tristan won't have a choice.

Player-level choice, you can make up whatever reasoning you like for your characters.

1. Any way imaginable. Depends on the employer and the country of origin.
2. Mercenary companies are the ones called upon to do domestic tasks when the military is too busy, or to be the personal watch dogs of the nobility. Some look at them in a foul light, others in a positive light, but they are for all tense and purposes the work horse of any nation concerning small priority problems or for buffing up an army's numbers.
3. Mercenaries are everywhere. The only thing more common than a mercenary is a soldier in terms of sheer numbers. The Free Holds' military is basically entirely mercenary companies.
4. Yep.
