Name: Shortar’Norae vas Ektomi

Race: Quarian

Gender: Male

Age: 31

Class: Infiltrator

Appearance: Typical Quarian attire, colored a deep red with black detailing

Background:
Shortar'Norae was born in the Migrant Fleet, as most Quarian are. However, his mother suffered problems from child birth and died, leaving his father, Pari’Norae, to attempt to raise the child on his own. However, Pari slowly crashed as the enormity of the loss of his wife struck him, and he became reclusive, causing Shortar to raise himself. He got himself up in the mornings, got ready for school, and made himself meals. Around age 13, Shortar became rebellious. “If our medicine was better, my mother would still be here. Father wouldn’t be in the sad state he is. It’s the Conclave’s fault!” These thoughts turned to words. Eventually, Shortar was arrested due to attempting to steal one of the Mirgrant Fleet’s fighter ships..
During the trial, which was private so as to keep the public largely unaware of the disturbance, the Conclave basically gave Shortar two options; ‘Continue living your life normally, or be exiled. We can’t have a young man who refuses to cooperate. You need to think about the best interests of the Fleet.’ Of course, Shortar chose exile.

Equipment:
Weapons:
Punisher VII Sniper Rifle

Carnifex Hand Cannon

Can't comment much right now, but a big thing is this takes place a decade vefore ME1, so the geth aren't in contact, thus no geth weapons will be in this setting, or their technology.

Also, the quarians can't afford to lose members of the population. It doesn't make sense they'd brutally punish a young child for his father's crimes.

I completely forgot about the Geth not being in contact. *sigh* I'll work more on it. I feel stupid now. Whatever. If I'm not deemed too stupid for this RP now, I'd like another shot.

Don't worry about it dude, I made some pretty bone head mistakes on my sheet too and they still tolerate me.

I think it has to do with me writing the best grumps.

I wanted to have a Krogan carrying a battleship mass accelerator cannon :( they said no. Thus no fetch stuff for you :)

Also in regards to the trouble with blaming the kid, quarians banish someone who then has a kid the kid is still allowed to rejoin the fleet. Family history means little me thinks.

While the Migrant fleet did have a very small amount of interaction with the Geth at this time, (via the Migrant Marine elite and scout ships going beyond the veil), Geth technology is almost universally rigged to self-destruct or self-sabotage to prevent capture. Its still rare even after the Heretic Geth entried into the galaxy at large in ME1.

So unfortunately no Geth Armouries tech, even for Quarian elite...

Also, in order to be Vas, he must've completed his pilgrimage, otherwise he'd have the name of his birth ship with the descriptor Nar.
As well, Banishment is restricted for only the worst offenses that threaten the security of the entire fleet. While attacking other quarians is pretty bad, it wont get you banished. Banishing is more of comandeering a ship and using that to attack other ships...

I understand everything about the names and being able to re-join the Fleet, but thanks for helping! And Sundered Echo, thanks for giving more detail on what it would take to be exiled. That helps out a lot. And I did do a little touch-up research, but I guess I didn't research what I needed. Thanks Echo and Vakte!

Also, I have edited my character sheet. The weapon issue has been fixed, and the background has mostly changed. Let me know if I still need to fix something. :D

Admiralty board handles Exile. Also, maybe have him be a little more successful on the fighter theft? Exile is literally the worst thing that can happen to a Quarian under their law, its basically akin to the death sentence on Earth today. I can understand why he'd choose to do it, Quarians are very social creatures and their families are very close-knit so their suffering'd have a strong effect on him, but maybe ramp it up to him succeeding on his theft and lining up a target or even firing shots. Quarian ships do have Kinetic barriers so the fighters weapons would probably be ineffectual, but willing friendly fire would be enough for the board to consider Exile I think.

On an unrelated note, I think a little explanation should go into how he learned to handle a sniper, a rare weapon among the Migrant marines because they usually fight in close quarters e.g. in boarding actions, their most common deployment.

And uh, his powers seem odd... Tactical cloak I get, (I could bring up some lore points on that but I feel like that'd be too picky.) But what are 'Slide' and 'Storm' ?
You know you can also take a few more than three powers if you want, I think the highest any char has right now is six, though of course, no biotics because Quarians don't have them.
Oh by the way Kasyra will hate your char for being an exile... Though she hates a lot of people so don't take it personally...

Kasy also hates Pilgrimage kids and/or drop-outs. And probably proper quarian citizens that lived the dream Pilgrimage and are of high rank in upstanding Migrant society. Probably despises the smaller children. ;]

Race: Quarian

Ha-ha. Aggressive quarian takeover is due, motherfuckers. Tzvi be getting some tranq's.

Canon mistakes are easy to make, particularly in the first bio drafts. That doesn't matter so much, attitude does. If you keep to the canon and listen to the judges' comments, you're good.

I believe Sun's right about the Admiralty board being used for the trials, even though that sounds kinda odd going off description of that and the Conclave.
And yeah, I assume the bio's still in work, but you should explain what abilities Shortar has in detail and how. Sunny D made a good point about the snipers.

Alright, moar in-depth review time because I'm not on a phone. Hooray!

I'm going to assume by the 'Storm' and 'Slide' powers you're referring to the charging run in ME1 and the ME3 evasive move, respectively. Those aren't really powers, per say. The powers we're referring to are anything that you could pick from the radial menu or hot key to use in-game related to class. As Sunny D mentioned, you can have more than the one power. Your character's 31 years old; he's obviously fulfilled some kind of function in the Floatilla that would give him some kind of specialty. Was he a marine? Someone related to the operation of a ship? Repair guy? Navigator? Food production? There's literally nothing to go by.

As well, given how tight-knit quarian communities are (you literally can't exist in quarian society without interacting with people; their "houses" are basically cubicles in large rows, and you don't buy things, you take what you need from the "marketplace" and return what you aren't using for somebody else to use). It's meant so it feels inclusive and that you're a part of something bigger and more important than individual needs. This is why it doesn't really make sense for Shortar to become rebellious and resentful over his mother's death. It is literally an event he could not remember (childbirth) and he had far more than his father raising him. The way you wrote everything kind of makes it seem like he spent the better part of two decades being an anti-social, rebellious individual who was prone to acting out without maturing. This is a part of the reason actually fleshing out the sheets matters; it not only gauges your writing ability, but it also establishes a believable and well-thought out character. To be blunt, it kind of feels rushed as it is, and it's very, very short on the details. Look at the other accepted character sheets to get an idea of what we're looking for.

From what I take from the Bio, Shortar was exiled before his Pilgrimage, which would be an incredibly harsh punishment for a child. As mentioned, it's like the death penalty. Imagine sending a 13-14 year old kid to death row for trying to steal a car; it's pretty much exactly the same thing. The quarians probably wouldn't be overly harsh and consider it a failure on their part to have effectively help raise the kid that would make him take such drastic actions. They'd almost certainly try to rehabilitate him over saying "well, he's a write off" because once again, quarians can't afford to lose their population, especially over something that's done by a kid who was acting out. It's not like he sabotaged the drive core of a ship or screwed with the life support or anything. He tried to steal a ship; since he didn't succeed, there's no way to know what his intentions are. Also, since it's a fighter, it's not like it has a very long range or FTL capabilities, anyways. There's a reason that humans make a big deal about coming up with the idea of assault carriers to worm their way around dreadnoughts, because they have an effective means of transporting fleets of fighters to a battle and deploying them en-mass. It's not like they can accompany the bigger ships with much better propulsion capabilities and fuel capacities from point A to point B when we're talking galaxy spanning distances, or even solar systems.

As Sunny D mentioned, how would he have learned how to use a sniper rifle, or have a preference for a high-recoil hand cannon if he had no formal training in either? The Carnifex would be like having a Desert Eagle in a lot of ways, given its large size, powerful shot, and hand wrecking recoil. A presumably non-physically fit and combat trained kid would have a hell of a time using either, especially something that requires a particular amount of dexterity and technical skill to use as a sniper rifle, which even with ME's advanced targeting systems, still involves holding your arms steady and being able to handle a heavy, cumbersome weapon to put a single shot on target at long-range.

Finally, where's the information on his exile? You wrote down a very brief bit about his childhood, but it doesn't really go into much about his upbringing, his relationships, or anything of the like. It doesn't have to be super extensive, but think about your own life and what shaped you into who you are, similar things should be considered for your character. Not knowing what he's been doing for literally over half his life is also kind of a point of concern; where did he go as an exile, where did he find food? How did he keep his suit intact and operational? How was he earning money? Keep in mind this is a kid with very little hard skills to offer, and quarians are pariahs in the galaxy, it's hard for them to find any kind of meaningful work when they're trained pilgrims, let alone a school age kid who tried to steal a ship he didn't know how to fly. Plus, a big one, why would Nova ever want to pick him up as a new hire?

Anyways, you have a foundation to flesh out, but I strongly suggest you look at the other character sheets and the In-Character section to kind of get an idea of what we're looking for. If you think you can have comparable writing, great! Take some time to really iron things out and make it convincing. Otherwise, you might have a really hard time keeping the pace. Don't be discouraged! We're more than willing to work with someone willing to put in some honest effort. Most of what I was writing is pointers for what to address and build upon, not to discourage you. Part of doing a GMly thing.

I mean, I hope I figured out the GM thing by now. My other game's been running for over a year and this one's about two months away from its anniversary.

Thanks for helping me out guys I REALLY apprieciate it. And even though that sounds highly sarcastic, it isn't. I'm glad people are helping me instead of saying 'Nope, you're an idiot, leave now, etc., etc.". I'm working on the Background, it's still a WIP. I'm planning on covering a lot more, I just didn't want to get too much done and then have it be completely wrong again and have to redo it. So don't worry, I am working on explaining most things

Sundered Echo said On an unrelated note, I think a little explanation should go into how he learned to handle a sniper, a rare weapon among the Migrant marines because they usually fight in close quarters e.g. in boarding actions, their most common deployment.

And yeah Echo, I am planning on explaining the use of the Punisher and Carnifex, just haven't typed it all out yet.

Thank you for checking over my character sheet guys. This is only my second one, the first being a Nation RP Sheet. In other words, my first Character Sheet. I hope to get better at this so I'm not always the guy that has to remake everything. XD

Ok, first and most blatant thing I notice here.
Drell Assassins are not freelance. Virtually all Drell in the galaxy live with the Hanar under the compact, and Drell Assassins exist not because of any cultural inclination to be assassins, but because the Hanar train them under the terms of the Compact. Drell Assassins are essentially the hand of the Hanar when it comes to things requiring violence, and they keep them very close at all times until such time as they retire, which is not something they get to choose to do, but something allowed to them by the Hanar when the Hanar deem it necessary. If Silas' parents were killed, the Hanar would take care of him, not cut him loose, as, for all that they may sometimes exploit the Drell, they still have their own obligations to ensure the safety of all Drell.

While it is possible to break away from the Hanar (as evidenced by our very own Drell Adept Kosso) it is still rarely done and not exactly easy.
C-sec is the premiere police force in the galaxy, and despite their being portrayed as not so great, they are actually skilled and have protocols in place that would catch his previous occupation, something that would more likely get him a place ont heir watchlist than a job.

Oh and having been in the Blue Suns means Kasy will either like you or literally try to kill you. She's really a bundle of love like that....

Yeah, I'm sorry for what the hell I wrote, it was on like three hours of sleep. I literally only made this character on a whim since I thought there were too many humans to warrant adding one more (silly, stupid me). Let me brush up my writing chops a bit, and I'll get you something that doesn't suck.

Not enough bother to play non-human characters. I looked for the race on both bios and expected to die a little inside when it said "human."
It's awesome to see players do that shit. It just requires extra background on canon (which, if you don't want to look it up, you can ask, and others'll know). And like I said, canon mistakes are cool, you just gotta fix 'em.
If you need canon help for a race, you can ask for it here (or someone specific in PMs); most'll be happy to help/babble about it.
