Name: Junkojuro Age: 412 Gender: Male Race: Fox Youkai Appearance: Junkojuro Junkojuro has three tails, and can also take on a full fox form with white fur and similar crimson markings. Those who do not have heightened spirit awareness will not see the crimson markings when he is in his fox form, and will not see any of his fox-like features when he is in his human form. No matter what he is doing, whether it be lounging in a tree or fighting for his life, he always seems to be relaxed. He has smooth and elegant movements, and a soft voice to match. Personality: Junkojuro is a calm and level-headed individual, and is one of the few Youkai that seeks open discussion with humans. He believes that humans and spirits can peacefully coexist and that violence should only be used as a last resort, and thus has come to hold disdain for Youkai hunters and the like. Occasionally, he has offended important people by speaking too frankly, but he has done this only for the sake of honesty and not out of disrespect. Those that respect his wishes will find him kind and reliable; those that offend him will find him cold and bothersome. Skills and Abilities: As a long-lived fox, Junkojuro is highly knowledgeable in both nature and the spirit world. He knows how to communicate with spirits and can act as a “middle-man” for the spirits, though he tends to represent the will of the spirit world more so than the human orientated priests/priestesses. Likewise, his spiritual awareness has given him a knack for telling when good or ill fortune is near. Junkojuro can also harness the magical substance, foxfire. This blue flame does not behave like normal fire. While it can burn, it is more often used to create various kinds of illusions. He can create sounds, images, and sensations with the flame, and can appear however he wishes by cloaking himself with the substance. Finally, as a long-lived spirit, he is stronger and faster than a normal human. Being a pacifist, he has not exercised these abilities to their fullest potential so a skilled warrior would be able to best him in combat, but Junkojuro prefers to rely on his wit anyway. Possessions and Assets: Junkojuro’s most valuable possession is his Hoshi no Tama, a magical orb that all powerful fox spirits acquire. It is the source of all of his power and if another being were to claim it, Junkojuro would become powerless and would likely become subservient to that being. Because of the importance of the orb, Junkojuro has swallowed it, so one would either have to kill him or be sadistically creative to obtain it. Junkojuro has influence over the creatures of the woods, especially foxes. He can influence the behavior of animals, and can even read knowledge straight from a fox’s mind, making them useful messengers. Finally, Junkojuro is an adherent of the Kami Oinari, a deity associated with crops and fertility. Some have feared that such spirits could use their spiritual influence to bring a plague of crop failures down on a village. Junkojuro is not so insolent that he would attempt such an abhorrent act. Bio: Folk tales say that a fox who lives for many years eventually acquires power and wisdom, growing more tails the stronger they become. Junkojuro was one such fox lucky enough to transcend his mortal form and enter the world of the Youkai. He has lived in the Mitsumine territory all his life and knows the forest, mountains, and caves better than any human alive. He has seen the rise and fall of many clan leaders, some of which he became good friends with, some of which he eagerly awaited their dying breath. His degree of involvement with the family has likewise fluctuated, but his existence has never been recorded and he has only been known to the leaders of the clan. Currently, he has only had limited dealings with Takeshi, mostly because the man was mostly concerned with raising a good heir than for any personal distaste for the man. However, he has made his desire to meet with the young lord known. He is concerned with the rising tensions between the clans, and wants to determine if this new leader is one that he will work with or simply wait out.
