Yeah, the Order of the Aether have a pretty tight grip on politics everywhere they are prominent (There's just no political backup like an army of screaming fanatics and terrified farmers xD)
Its a bit like the church in medieval Europe, you do what they say or the inquisition might be coming your way. I tried to make a corrupted version of the ten commandments to imply they started out well intentioned by the crap sack world turned them into Overseer styled zealots

Edit: It does, but considering the size different between those who have given themselves to order and those who follow the Order of Aether in the west, I think its safe to say the Order of Aether has a near grip on the West still, especially on local politics and policy making
