Hey guys, I've been wanting to do an rp about Samurai's for a while now. There was one on here that was going to start, but its been canceled. I want to escape from the Ninjas and pirates for a bit. Here's what I'm thinking of.

In a different reality, one different from our own world, Samurai are the police of the world. A world where it's land is constantly feuded over by governments and constant war has destroyed modern life. The world's natural resources are dwindling and humanity seems to be heading to an abrupt end. There are some though, who are developing technology to save the world. Some would rather watch the world burn and take whats left as their own.

At the same time this is going on, the planet itself, is transforming unbeknownst to the world. In some places around the world, sprouts of energy are "infecting" certain people with power called Ether, giving them super-human abilities. The mystery of this energy has yet to be solved.

You can play a Samurai who is a soldier working for a particular government that is engaged in a proxy war, a Samurai mercenary, or even just a wandering warrior. Your character can be infected with the Ether or not. It's up to you.

It's not entirely fleshed out and won't be until I start on the OOC if this gains interest. If you are interested and have some ideas, please don't be afraid to let me know.

This sounds fairly interesting. I am pretty well verse in Samurai on an historical sense studying their culture and all that jazz. On any accord the general idea seems easy enough. However, if you are going to flesh it out you might want to consider a single area in which the governments interact. You know, get the world as compact as can be until there is reason to expand. Most importantly, my question is have you developed a general story line or plot progression. I'd rather not take part in just another tavern RP. With that being said, I imagine it would take into account the changing world. It also wouldn't hurt to more clearly define both the environmental setting and the chronological setting. You want to use Samurai but you mention technology to aid civilization. .Obviously this takes place in an alternate universe but what is the world really like? Are we looking at a present day where fire arms have fallen out of service and people returned to melee combat? Or has it not breached the creation of fire arms and thusly the technology being created is more steam punk-ish or something along those lines.

Hey bud! Thanks for the interest. Like I said before, I have yet to flesh it completely out. This is just the general idea. Also, this would be more of a casual rp than an advanced one. You asked good questions and they will be answered if the OOC ever gets started.

I'll post slight interest. If it gets of the ground then sure but similarly I want an RP with a storyline that takes us places rather than a sandbox 'do what you like' theme.

Yes indeed, to all of the above! Just my mind running a bit on the possibilities, but I'd much like to see this fleshed out.

Also agree about smaller world-scale until necessary. Perhaps start with central city where major factions are present and act fairly civil with one another. Could even use the trope of friendly captivity, keeping the close relatives of powerful people semi-hostage to encourage good behavior. In addition to the main city, perhaps one or two ether sites, as it seems that would be an important and complex component. I was actually thinking about a shugenjo/yamabushi character. Ronin are fun, but no fun if every participant lacks a banner, methinks.

Eri 'Eddy' Yamaguchi was a scientist working on high-tech solutions for continuing human life in the face of a rapidly approaching Malthusian limit as well as a high premium on clean air. His funding was cut as he was looking for a healthy, strong young man to test his biotech on, and in a desperate effort to keep the government from shoving his prototypes into a box somewhere and vanishing it, he paid off one of his assistants to operate on him. His prototypes were 'installed' in his own somewhat out-of-shape body, giving him immense stamina bordering on regeneration, the ability to survive on almost no inputs, and access to a basic communication system (cellular?) in his head.

Unfortunately, this left him mildly disfigured and a traitor to his country. He couldn't risk getting IDed, so he didn't dare get a job as a scientist, even for another country. But he could -- and did -- get a job as a samurai. He was born to the right kind of family, and had always been disrespected for his choice to become a scientist rather than a warrior. Well, now he was going to fulfill his blood destiny regardless of everything he wanted for himself and for the world.

At least, until such time as he could find the means to scrape together an independent laboratory and create another set of prototypes. Provided, of course, that the ones in his body keep working well enough to keep him ticking until then...
