Lying in his hospital bed, Thanar listened to the response. It was going well... with luck, he'd have a military contract secured and his next few years' research costs covered. Then the ground shook, and he tumbled from his bed, landing on his broken wrist. Even as he screamed in agony, he lifted a trembling hand and felt the reassuring solidity of the Corestaff slapping into his palm. Lifting himself to his feet with his windcore ring, he staggered to the window. The ground shook again, and the wall cracked, shattering the window. Glancing back at the quickly disintegrating floor, he closed his eyes, blocking out the throbbing in his wrist. He took a single step forwards, and plummeted towards the ground. As he fell, his eyes remained closed, and the Corestaff began to glow, softly at first, but quickly building to a blinding intensity. Suddenly, his eyes snapping open, Thanar thrust the staff forwards, and a screaming tornado formed with him at the eye. Flying through the air, he wove and dodged through rubble as he sought to exit the city. Then the ground shook for a third time, and black lighting shot from the sky. With a scream, Thanar drew on depths he never knew he had, and the tornado tripled in size, slapping away the rubble and propelling him ever faster through the streets. Behind him, a pulse of energy nearly knocked him from the sky as the very fabric of reality tore asunder. Orbs of burning light flew through the streets. Now was not the time to stop. Blood began to seep from his eyes, his nose, his mouth and ears as he pushed himself past his limit, tearing through the skies so fast he could barely be seen. As he neared the edge of the city, he saw the rising wall and knew he was lost. As his vision blurred, and blackness began to seep in around the edges, he dropped slowly from the air, skidding to a stop in a park across several meters of mud. Everything became darker, and darker, and then suddenly a blinding light rose in his eyes. A voice, female and young, filled his ears. "You're a tough one, aren't you? I like you. You don't give up." And then there was pain, and red, and blood. And everything stopped.
Nice choice of song. Really helped get me in the mood for writing this. I know he may have done some rather OP stuff there, but it's the dramatic opening and I want to make it good. Plus, it caused him some damage and he can't do it under normal circumstances.
