[IC] Pokémon Battle Frontier

Scott says the next facility is the Battle Dome near Lavender Town. Liam said they had a contest in Vermilion City to do and would go to the Dome after it.

"We'll see you at the Battle Dome," Shiranui added, waving Scott and Greta goodbye. Back in the Saffron City Pokémon Centre, Shiranui was remembering the time several years ago when he first entered Vermilion City while waiting for Titania to finish healing. He expected their Pokémon Centre to be more crowded than the average Centre. His reminiscence naturally led to the time he challenged the Vermilion Gym Leader, Lt. Surge, for a badge. "That guy sure was tough," he mused.

Liam had healed up in Saffron as well. He remembered Sabrina to be a particularly difficult gym battle. He was ready to go on to Vermilion to try and get the ribbon.

Titania was healed and after Shiranui collected his Gardevoir, he was ready to head down Route 6.

Liam collected his Pokémon as well. On the path, they encountered a Bellsprout. Liam called out Smaug. Smaug was taken aback by what he saw. He began to battle and was winning until he saw the Bellsprout use Vine Whip. Smaug began to cower behind Liam once he saw the vines. He stopped to try and talk to the Charmander. The Bellsprout took advantage of Liam's distraction to run off.

Titania came out of her Poké Ball and caught Bellsprout in a psychic grip. She looked over at Liam and felt now was the perfect time to divulge what she learned back at Mt. Moon. "Liam, Smaug is afraid of the Vine Whip move because he had been at the receiving end of it twenty times every day from his hatching to his desertion," stated Titania. The Gardevoir was horrified when Saisei told her how Smaug became mastigophobic.

"That's horrible." Liam exclaimed. He grabbed Smaug and hugged him. "How could anyone do that to such a sweet creature?" Liam began to softly cry as he hugged the Lizard Pokémon. Smaug began to glow white. The light soaked through Liam's closed eyes. He realizaed what was happening as Smaug's form began to change, evolving into a Charmeleon.

"Congratulations, Smaug," said Shiranui as Titania watched on with a smile.

Smaug nodded in acknowledgment to Shiranui.
"Shall we get going?" Liam asked after giving his own praises to Smaug.

"Not yet," answered Titania, bringing the Bellsprout she caught back in front of Smaug's eyes, "Smaug, you have a battle to finish."

Smaug stood up and gleamed as he blasted a powerful Flamethrower at the grass type and knocked it out with a single hit.

"That is one powerful Flamethrower," Shiranui commented. He wondered how powerful Smaug would be when he was one of the two Mega Charizard forms.

"Well, for now lets move south and get the next ribbon and then we can get the next symbol near Lavener." Liam said. He also thought aloud of how unusual it might be for Lavender's Joy to be in the contest on the judges panel. "She is pretty much the black Mareep of the family." Liam said.

"One thing I've learned on the Contest circuit is that atmosphere can play a fundamental part of any appeal," replied Shiranui, knowing about the oddity of Lavender Town's Nurse Joy.

"Well, I have a few thoughts of my own for that contest." Liam said. "But, for now I'll focus on Vermilion's contest."

"Good idea," replied Shiranui, "I've heard some tourists from overseas are visiting here at the time the next Contest is on."

"That's interesting." Liam stated. Vermilion City came into view.

At the Pokémon Centre, Shiranui noticed it was as busy as ever. "Looks like the lieutenant's been busy," he stated, referring to the local gym leader.

"Yeah, he is a tough one." Liam said. "Arguably one of the toughest in the region."

"I would believe it," replied Shiranui, "I can only think of two others who could be tougher than Surge."
