Weapons: His Staff of Protection, which serves as his spell focus for casting magic and allows him to cast the spell: Shield, twice per day. It also can work as a bludgeoning weapon but very ineffective. It also serves as a fantastic walking stick when navigating terrain but he's careful with it.
His scary dagger that pokes holes into things and people, ineffective in his hands but good at intimidating the occasional person to back off. On the blade are scribbles written into to make it stand out and add presence to it, it's just a normal knife.
Gear/Armor:His Robe of Weather Endurance, which has been woven carefully as a gift from a village that he once saved from the threat of wolves during one barren winter with no food. lets him hold better against harsh weather conditions such as heavy rain, strong winds, the desert heat, or other natural occurrences will be less severe for him. To prevent them entirely is impossible but allows him to be as comfortable as he can be in those situations.
His Moonstone, which he found during one of his adventures into the forest that brought him to a glowing cave that he followed upstream from a river. It seems to glow with the pale light of the moon when exposed to it for an enitre night and glows when it is dark enough. It proves bright light in 5 feet and dim light in another 5 feet from that. While impossible to turn off the Moonstone but it can be covered to hide the light it gives. Should the stone be starved of moonlight, it will be unable to use its ability to glow until it is stored with light once more.
Glasses of Vision, its a pair of frames and lens that allows Mathias to read without everything being blurry for him. He keeps them on for the most part until he needs to take them off for certain tasks that may be too troublesome for keeping them on.

Personality:Mathias is what you would expect a man of his age, youthful and eager to see the world. He had already set off from home several years ago and already made a small fortune from those that he joined up with. A brilliant mind who isn't afraid to use his cunning and unrelenting tactics destroy his enemies who cannot deal with them. He is a well manner person and friendly enough to greet and have small talk if you saw him on the street. While friendly he may be, there is not doubt for a ruthless man such as him have a piece of himself be cold and stoic which are devoid of emotions to get the job done. He does know the time and place for both sides of him to be used, but perhaps it is a chilling fact that a person can be so fluid and true to themselves.
Back Story: Mathias is an adventurous soul who knew the life in his village wasn't for him if he wanted to expand his horizons. This was partly due not only to his youth but his desire to expand his knowledge of the arcane and in the backwash village of his was not the place to do so. His gateway out of the town, was hitching a ride with the caravans in exchange for being a guard when he practiced the small cantrips he learned and the spells in his arsenal. He while was provided with room and board, was eventually paid for his services a bit lower than the others but money was still money. It surely did beat what he was doing in his old village, as a simple scribe to one of the richer folks that live there hired his service as an literate.
He continued this way of life, making enough coin to support basic life without having to live in the allies or streets and continued his adventure as cliche it was. This was when he was a wee boy of the age of his mid 20s where he abandoned his home (his family could support themselves with 4 older children as he was the youngest) and continued on doing what he pleased. No doubt, it wasn't an easy life having to worry about money and budgeting at times until the next request was put in where he would have to find a party to perform it with. Then after finishing the quest, splitting up the money and all the other intricate dealings that individual adventurers had to go through that weren't in an established group.
Eventually, though, after a few weeks, a group eventually picked him up and threw him on another long term adventure as guards for another caravan with merchants and other travels. Facing the common wildlife creatures there were, and the occasional monstrous beast like goblins or stray orc. He gained much experience during these trips which when he finished, split up the money but decided to stay with the group as he needed them and they needed someone like him. It was a temporary thing, he knew that and his group knew that but underwent several other missions guarding merchants and occasionally raiding an infested area free of bandits or wildlife that haunted it.
Trouble was brewing and missions became more difficult, more and more request of guarding and defending against the orcs came popping up. These jobs gave adventurers like themselves were prosperous did little to hold back what felt like the inevitable. His concerns were shared with his party and together they focused on these missions on protecting those who needed it and got paid. Sure it was tedious repeating what felt like the same thing, but the smiles they received were motivation to bring them through for the next several months. What honorable and respectable ideals soon withered away, like any normal person and they were back to adding spice and variety into their lives with the jobs they accepted. They sought out the unique kind jobs like heading into the mountains or deeper in the forests and caves that contained creatures they didn't expect.
Throughout the years, jumping back and forth between missions eventually became dull for his party members who eventually retired for adventurers like them rarely lived long. One by one, they all disbanded and it was simply Mathias himself who was left of the original party that welcomed him to join. His former teammates all pursued their individual occupations, putting their former skills to work and sought out less dangerous jobs as they settled down. They would all be fine citizens who were deceptively strong under their guise of normal life but it would eventually rust away from disuse. Mathias himself considered retiring in a peaceful rest of studying simply the arcane and avoid the troublesome task of defeating enemies who approached him but decided to put himself to good use.
The rising threat of orcs had grown to be a much bigger issue than what he had expected in the past, and so once again maybe he would join another group of fellow adventurers, mercenaries, or whatever they called themselves. It would be interesting to be springing back into action after a brief period of rest and contemplation of his future. There would only be more encouragement for his goal to fight against the orcs when the king eventually posted a bounty on the leader of the orcs.
