Genre: Fantasy, Adventure, Sandbox, Humour
Scale: 4 - 5 Players, one character each.
Mechanics: Exploration, Dice & Randomness, Loot, Levelling, Death. Chapter-based.
Players:

P R E M I S E

Monsters, mayhem, magic and dungeons galore: this is all that's left in the rubble of the ruined world. So who's going to clean up this mess?

I

You were born today from an egg. With a virtual pat on the back and a little push, you toddled right out from Hivemind's stew and into a world of wonder and danger. Congratulations, you're the clean up crew, and you've got one teensy, wheensy job: Make the world habitable and kill all the nasties for Hivemind, pretty please. Yay!

Unfortunately, much to the dissapointment of
Hivemind, Igs have a tendancy to die. Alot. Much like lemmings, really. But a few struggle on, turning their hard-won experience into abilities beyond comprehension, aquiring artefacts of immeasurable power. Those with a sharp eye and a finely honed sense of self-preservation just might end up turning that old stinky dungeon into their own personal castle.

E X P L O R E --> C L E A R --> L O O T --> R E T U R N

The roleplay is broken clearly into chapters, with initial chapters being shorter as your character finds their feet. The prologue works differently as people settle in and say hello.
  • EXPLORE: Scout out the environment, deciding what locations are best (for example, a party with lots of fire weapons would easily destroy alot of ice monsters) whether the loot is worth the risk, and prepare for any unique hazards.
  • CLEAR: Succeed at your mission objective, usually involving killing lots of monsters, but not always.
  • LOOT: Get them lovely XPS, rare items, and treasure.
  • RETURN: Get home in one piece preferably alive. At Hivemind, sell your items, get resurrected, see if there is any news and upgrade yourself.

So with all that said and done, what type of Ig are you?

C H A R A C T E R S H E E T O V E R V I E W

Right then. So this might look a little scary to those who haven't played a mechanic-based roleplay before, but I'll place up an example for your perusal. Please note this is a clarification of the sheet, the actual sheet is below in code format.
Name: Single name / nickname only.
Gender: Male or Female.
Appearance: Newborn Igs range between 2-3ft tall on average at birth. They are all different shapes and sizes, and come in all different colours of the rainbow. This should be a short, written description, as appearances will change during the course of the roleplay, and you generally start as a short, squishy thing. This section is mainly for noteworthy features and does not have to be too detailed.
Personality: Required. A little about how your character behaves, their outlook on life, and their general demeanor.

Level: 1. This will increasure during the game.
Deaths: 0. No need to worry about this, honest ;)
Stats: Stats determine how proficient you are at certain tasks.
Distribute: 1x -, Untrained | 2x • Rookie | 2x ★★ Trained | 1x ★★★, Specialised

Strength: Brute power, force, and ability to resist poison, disease and toxins.
Dexterity: Agility, balance, reaction times. Ability to move stealthily.
Cunning: Wit and sneakiness. Ability to lie and detect when others are lying.
Spirit: Power of the soul, metaphysical strength, innate wisdom and understanding of the metaphysical.
Knowledge: understanding and mental retention of different subjects.
Luck: Increases liklihood of favorable events happening to your character, or avoiding negative circumstances.

Abilities:
  • Scan: Allows you to gain information on enemies you fight. Initial scans grant minimal information, with subsequent scans perfect your knowledge. This ability can be used once every three turns.

Inventory:
Magical Items:These are items of particular note.
Equipment: Your armour and weapons.
General Items: Everything else.

Hi there. So I'm trying a more minimal approach to GMing. For this reason, alot of the mechanics are not currently mentioned, players will discover them as their characters do. I'm happy to answer questions as they come up, though I may ask that certain things be left to discovered IC (such as what happens when your character dies ;D)

Here's an example character sheet:
Meetmoot
Strength: ★★★ || Dexterity: ★★ || Cunning: • || Spirit: • || Knowledge: - || Luck: ★★
Level: 1 || Deaths: 0

Thankyou :D Good point, I'll add to the description a bit to make it more clear.

Igs are humanoid creatures around 2-3ft on average. They are born from eggs, and each egg is unique to the individual Ig. Their skin colour covers the entire spectrum - from conventionally human tones to bright purples, blues, greens, yellows, oranges, reds, pinks, to pastels and deeper hues. Sometimes they are also born with basic markings (stripes, spots, ect) but these types of markings are uncommon at birth. Just like humans, they can be short and fat, tall and skinny, buff, athletic, and any mix inbetween. If anything Igs are more exaggerated in form.

(apologies for the quick random doodles, I'll try to make these better xD)

Igs grow quickly and change often. In the above, unfinished example, There's an Ig Egg, the newborn Ig that was born from it, and her after she evolved to grow some wings (more about that in a minute) and equipped some armour. Then there's... newborn Mitmoot next to her. He probably hatched from a crimson egg and would, I assume, grow to be quite tall one day.

Newborn Igs are quite basic, but they will evolve to their environments (such as gaining innate camoflauge, wings, specific markings, ect.) based on your choices.

@Mae

Whelp, I love pretty much everything about this.

Am I correct to think that we would be playing in a fantasy-ish world with vaguely medieval technology and no true "magic" (as in no throwing fireballs and its ilk)?

@Sarcelle Renard Post-apocalyptic fantasy world, so think Final Fantasy X style with magic but also sometimes robots. because robots.

There is magic, but it's inbuilt into the combat system, so don't worry about it being OP. Mostly it'll just be fireball ranged attack does X fire damage, which is great against ice monsters and terrible against a pond of water if you for some reason felt the need to throw a fireball at it.

Magic, just like any item or skill, can be used out of combat thematically (e.g. i use this fireball to make a campfire, i use my knife to cut these branches for wood) with a smidge of dicerolling.

I'm keeping the combat stuff on the backend right now, but I'm sure people will suss out the systems as they use Scan and play generally. I'm happy to answer questions but I'll go into more detail as the issues come up IC.

While we're on the topic, If you have a preference for playstyle (melee, ranged, magic, ect) it'll be covered in the Prologue, but do tell me OOC @duskshine749 relevant to you too :D

@Sarcelle Renard@ClocktowerEchos Shall I confirm your spots?

I just thought of how I want my first combat style to go. I want a magic character but he uses a ranged weapon like a bow and enchants it. So I'd have fire arrows, ice arrows, etc. Not sure how that would manifest at the start since that sounds a bit too bad ass for a level 1 character

@Mae So here's something I made, I hope you don't mind that I ended up going towards a some what comedic route with this ^^;
As for combat, I'd say I'd either have a one hand and shield or a two handed weapon.
And maybe something that could let me set stuff on fire because fire is pretty.

@Mag Lev excellent! welcome aboard!

@duskshine749 Perfect ;3 Alot of loot in dungeons and stuff will be random, but I might be able to rustle up a bow for you in the prologue. As for the magic, you might get special ammo as loot if you're lucky. If not, you'll have to rustle up the moolah for your first return trip to Hivemind :D

@ClocktowerEchos ahhh he's perfect!!!

Aha! I do believe we have enough players to whip up the ol' OOC machine. *turns the crank*
