In the year 2049, humanoid mechanized robots called GEARs have become commonplace due to their versatility. And ACE Academy is Japan's premiere school for "Cenorobotics", a new academic field focused entirely around these robots. Each year a new group of pilots enter the world of Cenorobotics to learn how to pilot, and fight with their gears. The sport of it has become a phenomenon around the world with even entire national teams taking front and center in giant battles. Be it in the 'War Games', or simply in personal combat the teams seek to place a victory in their corner for their team, and their own fame. The world looks towards Japan for their advanced Cenorobotic creations, and many students flock to the city of Isokaze known throughout the world as a hub for all sorts of companies basing their HQ's in the city. As well as for it's prestigious Ace Academy where the world looks to find the next rising star among the rough of students that go to their school to learn from everything to piloting, to engineering, to psychology, and everything in between.

This is where our tale starts and the world begins to spiral towards the prized team of Celestial Star. A team noted for their dedicated approach to handing the team name down a long line of students. Some former world class pilots even have called the team their home for the longest time. Sponsored by various companies from time to time they are now jointly sponsored by the Hyperion Conglomerate, and Yan Industries. Though Hyperion is mostly a side sponsor, and the team is officially backed by Yan it is a highly complicated arrangement due to the nature of some of the team's members. Celestial Star has fallen on hard times as many wish to get away from the name due to it's complicated history and form their own teams resulting in the Throne Trinity Team, and High Blade Team. Others have graduated, or moved on otherwise leaving the group with a not enough pilots to actively continue. There are currently two pilots, and the manager to their name. As such as the new year is coming around the team hopes to solidify it's spot once more and claim the first place spot from the grasp of the school's top teams. The school year is starting to shape up as the top 40 teams have begun to finally solidify into units for the upcoming new year. Will Celestial Star win? Or will they be swept away by the tides of competition?

Rules:
1. All Standard Roleplay Rules Apply. Power Playing, God Modding, and other assorted non-sense is not allowed.
2. The Power scaling of the suits will be measured. The heavier the suit the less quick it moves. The stronger it's kinetic weapons that hurt armor the less likely it is to have strong energy weapons. Hybrid weapons are allowed for the in between choices. Shield strength, and armor level are matters you may consider at your leisure but they apply as well.
3. I must approve of your characters personally before allowing them into the roleplay. Characters not approved do not get noticed in the IC.
4. PVP is allowed but remember that this is not a death oriented style of play. If you want to fight an friendly suit please ask them first.
5. Everyone is enrolled at Ace no exceptions. You may be a engineer, a pilot, or another supporting member of some sort but you must be a part of the school to participate and be considered a team member. 4 Pilots per battle means if we have more than four we can rotate the ones who are battling.
6. Systems like Eagle's special system aren't allowed simply due to the fact that they are considered extremely rare. Though I may consider special systems depending on what it does.

Work in progress

Name: Bill Atlas
Nicknames: White Lightning, Atlas Squire
Team Position: Team Leader - Skirmisher
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Year at Ace Academy: 2nd Year
Appearance:

A male around standard height, and build Bill has dark brown hair, and hazel eyes. He usually wears a black coat, and white t-shirt with a pair of baggy pants. His hair is short cut, and usually well kept. He is not a very muscular individual only training to be properly able to pilot his suit. As such he is rather skinny but and pale. His skin tone white Caucasian and his ethnicity is that as well.

-
Personality:

Bill is a kind hearted young man with a respectable attitude towards others, and more often than not well spoken. He tends not to lean towards cruder language but does occasionally say harsher words towards others. He is professional, and well intentional when it comes to both piloting, and talking with others. Bill finds it easier to express himself through gear combat than actual words however and finds it easier to understand people through that. Bill often finds himself wondering if he could be a better pilot, or even a better person if he could just change a little bit more. He pushes himself in studies, and in training to reflect on the fact that he has a legacy to live up to.

He doesn't enjoy traveling, and prefers to stick to one place and stay there if he can. He also prefers playing video games to going to parties, or dancing. He refuses to drink, or smoke believing it would hamper his performance, and his own life. When it comes to friends however he is honest, and quickly ready to point out a flawed argument towards them as he views it as a personal point to help people better themselves if possible. Though he understands if his own advice is unwanted.

As a pilot however his personality changes quite a bit. Almost in recreation of his cousin's style he acts, and fights with hot blooded ferocity. Though this is mostly just a front he doesn't feel especially intense and uses it to either make his opponents demoralized, or misunderstand just what his actual fighting style entails. This essentially makes it a facade of his cousin's, and his grand father's before even him. In reality Bill lives off his adrenaline rush, and uses it to push through his enemies. However he is always respectful towards them, even if they are hostile to him in return.

Biography:

Born in America too a family with a lot of history regarding the gears young Bill was singled out to have a fantastic career when he grew up. His earlier life was simple as he spent most of it like any other kid, except with a lot more giant robot fights, and usually was left in the care of nannies, or other caretakers as his parents worked long hours, and were often busy. His family line of Atlas is star studded to say the least having members leading back to the older days of robotics, and cenorobotics. Though Bill himself cared very little for the subject initially as he had grown used to simply being around such creations. His father would often tutor him on aspects of robot design at Bill's own request when he was a kid which exposed him to many types of various machines from an earlier age.

Though Bill hadn't thought about it much he soon became more and more disinterested with Cenorobotics and figured it would be best not to live up to his parents' expectations of him joining in on the family career as they already had many family members in the business and Bill wanted to do something else entirely. Bill usually spent time around others, and making new friends when he could though he was not especially charismatic he was a honest sort, and well liked for his kindness towards others. He was a boy of few words to say the least however as he preferred to get directly to the point of things when he could.

Bill's teenage years from middle school and outward would be a time of change for him as he spent more, and more time trying to learn how to play music, and code computers to little success. However his soon to be famous cousin known as 'Black Thunder' by his friends was Jaden Atlas more often called Jack by some friends than his real name. Jaden influenced Bill with his larger than life charismatic stature, and posturing and his ability to simply beat people with unbelievable ease. Jaden was Bill's older cousin by five years, and when figured since Bill was having issues trying to find something he enjoyed in life he would tutor him himself. Jaden would not accept no for an answer and more or less forced Bill into Gear Piloting despite retorts from Bill's own friends. Jaden sparked a competitive streak in Bill he hadn't known existed after mercilessly beating him in simulators over and over again.

Bill had had enough of being beaten and quickly decided that if he couldn't beat his cousin than he didn't deserve to be called an Atlas. Bill devoted himself to learning his cousin's style which turned out to have a profoundly strong impact on Bill's own style as he got use to fighting in his cousin's own melee combat style than trying to flesh out his own style. Eventually Jaden himself would stop spending as much time with Bill as he use to but would continue to teach Bill who himself entered high school and began competing in junior league tournaments with the backing of Hyperion due to Jaden's meddling. Jaden would go onto be a nearly household name in the competitive world of Gear Battling for his manic persona of a hot blooded warrior eventually dubbing himself Sir Atlas along with his old title.

Bill would eventually go onto win a junior league championship before graduating high school. He spent a lot of time earning his keep in the house by taking on jobs with his father. However his father was convinced that Bill had talent and that he could best be put to use learning in Japan. Bill was sent to Japan to live on his own with the financial aid of his father initially in his first year at Isokaze's Ace Academy. Though Bill fought hard, and struggled a lot he did not make a strong initial impression on some students due to his western fighting style. However the famed team Celestial Star had picked him up soon enough and smoothed out some of his rougher habits. Though he did play back-up to many of his fellow classmates.

After coming in 7th place in the school last year Jaden sent Bill his own machine...to be exact the same one he used in the pro-leagues. The machine called Masurao. Hyperion offered to back Bill for the machine but Celestial Star was backed by Yan Industries their manager, a 3rd year named Chao Jun who has been supporting the team for years while other sponsors backed out due to the teams changing. Bill accepted their help in exchange for the right to keep Masurao from Jaden. Now with the new year running about and many teams forming with members lacking of his older team Bill intends to keep the team together with his friend Yasumi Masu as they attempt to win the prestige back from their striking defeat last year.

-

Combat Section:

Strengths:
-Highly adaptive,
- quick reflexes,
- heavy specialized training in melee combat which he gained by being trained by a professional gear pilot.

Weaknesses:
-Style reminiscent of his trainer leads to overly specialized melee preference with very little skill for long range.
-Poor nerves (when someone can hold off his style of combat, or hold him to a standstill he panics if pressured).
-Tense Focus (despite his skill he tends to focus on the enemy in front of him. A problem he hopes to rectify later.)

Neutral Values: Mid Range Combat, and support roles.

Gear Section:

Gear Designation: Hyperion Industries Custom Model ZWX Masurao

Nicknames: Exalted

Weapon(s):
The Masurao's primary armaments are a pair of powerful hybrid Sabers, a pair of hybrid weapons that are usually standard kinetic style weapons but have the option to switch into an energy mode, they are modeled after the Japanese daishō. It carries one in each hand, and stores them on a rack on the underside of its hip armor.

Energy Sub Machine Guns
Mounted on the Masurao's head are a pair of small-bore laser machine guns. They are not particle beams, but lasers with lesser destructive capability with decent accuracy and speed. It is used for occasions when one can actually manage to hold off Masurao's primary weapons.

(WIP)

Name: Ian Laudat
Nicknames: He's been called lazyass more than a few times. Otherwise folks just call him Ian.
Team Position: Sniper
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Year at Ace Academy: 2
Appearance:

-
Personality:

To call Ian lazy would be an insult to lazy people everywhere. Despite sleeping pretty constantly, he seems to always be tired. He's pretty friendly, even if someone were to wake him up he'd put on a smile and at least make an attempt at staying conscious...perhaps not very successfully. Despite his demeanor, he is no idiot. He has often angered teachers and students alike by being able to answer their questions immediately after waking.

Even with his apparent intelligence, he still falls behind when it comes to homework and other projects if he doesn't have someone to make him work on it. Tests and classwork though, those are child's play.

Biography:

Ian was born in the state of Tennessee in the US. Despite this, his southern accent is pretty negligible. Because his family was far from poor, he was never left wanting. His father did contract work for various Weapons companies. While it was mostly minor software work, it still pulled in quite a bit of money.

Ian was always mocked by others for having no motivation. Being held back one year of Middle school due to a teacher grading students on their attentiveness, though he didn't seem to mind much. Being a year older than others in his grade would have normally led to at least some teasing, but many students seemed to have some kind of innate fear of him. Rumors spread that he was always so tired because he was doing terrible things at night. This of course wasn't true, but kids have a way with imaginations. It wasn't until early High school that people started warming up to him, some of them asking for help on assignments when they could keep him awake.

As he grew older he grew interested in GEARs and even managed to convince his parents to buy him one to work with. It was a less expensive mech, but it was far from cheaply built. Ian finally finding something to put his limited energy into convinced his father to call in a few favors to get a hold of an experimental weapon. The weapon in question was a rail-powered rifle that Ian had seen in one of his father's files. It had already entered the testing phase, and within a few years would probably hit the market.

On a whim, his moderately wealthy parents sent him to Japan in an attempt to force him to move past his laziness. Being in such an unfamiliar environment would probably shock him into at least putting in some genuine effort. Despite their plan, he never shook off his lethargic nature, but he did manage to get into a good school. Him making it into Ace Academy at all was nothing short of a surprise, let alone him becoming a pilot. While he was pretty abysmal at close quarters combat, he excelled at ranged combat due to his patient and calm demeanor.

His parents were so enthusiastic about his admittance that they sent the GEAR that he had customized over the past few years. It was one of the few things he seemed to actively care about back in the states. Upon its arrival he performed the usual checks on the weapons and such. Of course once that was done he had to find a team. It would be good to use it for something other than a test run. The only team that really caught his eye however, was Celestial Star.

-

Combat Section (if applicable strengths, and weaknesses should even out remember personality traits aren't necessarily hindrances in combat.):
Strengths:

Ian has excellent aim, and given his patience has proven to excel when it comes to long range engagements. So long as his allies can keep the opponents away from him he can usually pick them off. His thrusters also allow him to quickly get out of most enemies's range.

His GEAR has been modified for specialized long range combat. Due to these modifications it is almost unparalleled in most long range confrontations.

While conscious, his battlefield awareness is fairly impressive. He can usually keep his team well informed of what's going on while he keeps an eye on things from a distance.

Weaknesses:

Of course that specialization also comes at a hefty cost. Enemies that manage to close the distance or corner the Gunslinger can generally depower it with little to no effort.

Short range combat is a pretty glaring weakness for Ian, so much so that he forfeited his close quarters weapons for better mobility.

Given his armor's poor quality, once his shields are down it takes little to no time to depower.

While he can usually keep himself awake in a battle, if he thinks his team has things under control it isn't unheard of for him to fall asleep. He keeps an alarm in his GEAR for such a purpose, but the time it takes to rouse himself fully could be the difference between victory and defeat.

Neutral Values: Medium range combat. Coordinated assaults. Drawn out firefights.

Other: (For anything I may have missed.)
===

Gear Section:

Gear Designation: Boeing IR34-Slingshot

Despite Ian's Slingshot's current use, the name was actually more of a reference to the GEAR's booster system than anything else. The thrusters operate on a heavier boost instead of a controlled one. This allows the GEAR to disengage quickly and outpace all but the swiftest of GEARs. Despite the advanced thrusters and light frame the Slingshot isn't in very high demand. The low demand for the GEAR made the price quite reasonable as it isn't meant for direct combat.

Nicknames: Gunslinger

The nickname came after a few modifications...like weapons systems. The original model seemed to be more of an unarmed scout than a combat GEAR. In wargames it would likely be used to keep an eye on the enemy or provide swift distractions, but Ian had it refitted for combat, at the expense of his parents. The experimental rifle it was outfitted with seems pretty normal aside from its triple charge system. Most rail-powered weapons require a few moments' charge for each shot fired, but this one is able to hold three charges before requiring another charge. This ups his damage output quite a bit, usually allowing Ian to engage most rail rifle users with relative ease. It draws a fair bit of power, but thankfully most fights don't push it too far.

Weapon(s): Tri-charge Rail rifle.

Base Parameters:

Strength: C
Endurance: B
*Armor Quality:D
*Shield Quality: B
Agility: A

Work in progress? I'd also like to say just as a quick reminder that we are in Japan. Your name is very much western you'll need to do some explaining about that. Bill is a character I intend to have moved to Japan for a better education his first year at school.

Hello hello!

I don't have in-depth knowledge of the setting yet, so I only have a general idea of the role I want - crowd control/disruption.

I visualise in my mind's eye a mech with a shield and a weapon that functions similarly to an omnitool from the ME series - a gun that shoots energy grenades with various effects (slow/blind/stun/overheat) and can turn into a melee weapon that can disable a mech from close range. The mech itself will be pretty normal other than particular resistance to the above effects.

Does this make sense with the setting in any way?

@PeacelessI don't believe there are weapons like that in the series to my own knowledge. Though it is a short visual novel so I'll give you that. There so far have only been weapons shown that are standard shooting, or melee weapons. @Heckno12 I believe has played the visual novel too so he may be able to help jog my memory too. Transformable weapons aren't a thing the closest thing to that would be eagle's ability to shift into overdrive mode which is basically trans-am from gundam oo mixed with G Gundam's Super mode. Though I suppose if you somehow worked in why you'd have an experimental weapon from some company, or your own design then I MAY consider it. Though the effects your stating probably won't be a thing as there is as of yet no standard for 'elemental' effects.

A shield shouldn't be too out of the ordinary though there aren't none shown in the series I'm sure some mechs have that option. My best bet would probably go with a pistol build and drop the shield as you can spray, and move. Using a sword, or some other melee weapon to keep them from just wiping you out at close. Harass, and delay the enemy prevent them from making moves while my own character, and Heckno's work some sort of play out on the enemy. Or if you wanted a more melee oriented build then using an standard rifle, and perhaps a sword and shield. It's pretty basic as far as mechs go but it works for just general standardized things go. However there are also heavier weapons notable in the game as while some units have slimmer weapons, others have heavier builds like Eagle (The main protagonist's mech) notably uses a large buster sword like weapon.

Does this help at all?

You can go on youtube and watch it. And it's available on steam as well. It's basically just a generic city setting with some futurist stuff here and there. It's not required to have read the novel to play the roleplay however it helps. @Ammokkx As I said there are lets plays of it on youtube if you really feel that you want to join in and know what's up.

@vietmykeRight now we have a designated melee fighter, and a sharper shooter. You can pack yourself with armor and give yourself a heavy weapon to make yourself a tank. You'd be slow but hard to take down. Only problem may be your power supply on the thing. If you want a high mobility type then you can probably just make a standard mech of some sort of range specialty or a balance

@vietmykeI don't believe so? Though I believe some can jump higher than others. There was a cutscene where one of the mechs was in the air but I don't believe they were flying per say as no other mech in the story so far has shown that ability.

I like to keep my signups short and sweet. If you want me to expand anywhere, Vance, then tell me.
Name: Rio Hamasaki
Nicknames: N/A
Team Position: Assault/Supporting fire
Age: 21
Gender:
Year at Ace Academy: 2nd Year
Appearance: Rio is a tall and slender woman, standing at a proud 1m86. She usually wears a bit of lipstick and eyeshadow, but doesn't touch other make-up. Her face is thin and sports small features, making her eyes and mouth seem further apart than they really are. She has ruby eyes. Her hair is long, minty geen but usually tied up into a ponytail which reaches 3/4ths down her back. Even when not in uniform, Rio prefers to dress formally so you'll usually see her sporting a suit of some renown.

Personality: Rio's a bit stuck up and snobbish, looking down on everyone but only letting it show ever so slightly. That's not to say she's heartless, you can certainly get a good conversation going with her if she lets you, but Rio's not the type to easily hand out compliments.

Biography: Born in the Hamasaki family, Rio wasn't missing much when she grew up. The Hamasaki's built their legacy on selling high-quality electronics and eventually got into the Gear business, making quite a bit of revenue come their way. This lead to the classic case of 'Rich Kid Syndrome' for Rio, as she was enlisted in some of the most expensive academies Japan had to offer. She was constantly pressured into studying, leaving her a bit of a loner up until the later years of her highschool life where she formed a small clique of friends. Rio never really had a boyfriend, which pains her enormously because every guy she's ever had a crush on either rejected her or were already together with someone else. They also tended to all be interested in Gears, so she herself decided to dabble into it as well.

Much to her parents' dismay, this caused Rio to choose to become a Gear pilot rather than inherit their business, but she figured they could shove that responsibility on her two years younger brother. She's kind of stuck down this path, too, as she actively lashed out against her parents to let her do this.

She was enlisted in Ace and soon was faced with the harsh reality that there were, in fact, people that were better at this whole piloting thing than she was. She repeatedly got crushed in combat, and it frustrated her at the time, but she at least humbled up a bit and stopped being a stuck-up bitch to everyone. The studies were much harder than she expected, too; while she'd been breezing through much of her schooling up to that point, she had troubles keeping up with Ace Academy. Now she's going to try and prove herself this year after barely scraping by last year. She's not going to be the problem child of the Hamasaki's!

Combat Section

Strengths: She's a calm thinker and is quick to adapt when things go south. Great at thinking up both short-term and long-term strategies when the situation calls for it. She isn't the greatest at mid-range, but she performs above average if nothing else due to a steady aim.

Weaknesses: Arrogance leads to overconfidence, so she can bit off more than she can chew sometimes. She doesn't like being ordered around, especially when it goes against what she personally thinks is 'best'. Despite having good theoretical skills, she can flake when putting it in practice. She's not great in the short range either, mostly due to having little experience with gears that come up close.

Neutral Values: Long-range combat and support roles.

Other: N/A

Gear Section

Gear Designation: Hamasaki Manufact. Customized Model 43CHUTE

Nickname: Union

Weapon(s):
Union is equipped with a Kinetic rifle that fires automatic rounds. The clip is reloaded as it fires, but can't go on endlessly. A set amount of bullets are loaded in, and if Rio continuously fires she'll end up depleting her clip before it can catch up. They're meant to pierce armor, but deal less damage to the gears themselves. This is a weapon meant for softening up the foe rather than outright killing them.

Union is also loaded with a couple of energy grenades (4 per combat) that, similarly, don't do much to damage the foe but rather pierce through shields. Unfortunately, this is a rather slow way to punch through their defenses and is more used for forcing the enemy to move.

The last of Union's weapons is a short range energy dagger. It's not meant to fight a melee Gear head-on, but serves as a last line of defense in case the enemy comes close. Unlike the previous two weapons, this one is designed to deal extreme damage on contact, but is hard to hit due to being so short.

@AmmokkxI know you're a talented roleplayer so I'll let the application be shorter but I'd expand their bio to input more info on her childhood, and or any events that may, or may not be important for her. I understand wanting to let out details in the story but it's good to have a solid base for a character.

In the combat section I'd put down more actual combat weaknesses, and strengths. For example on my sheet he is highly specialized in singular combat situations. This leads to him have issues with spatial awareness. He also has no long range combat skills to speak of even if his mech wasn't designed solely for the purpose of close combat. All you have right now is that she's a great planner, and poor at actual in combat competence as she believes her plans to be so good that they're fool proof.

Is she poor at short range? Is she great at long range? Should it go into neutral jack of all trades category?

Since you want me to set the detail on the grenades I'd say that maybe 4? That sounds reasonable weapon wise.

@vancexentan Fair points on them all. I shuffled around the mid-range to strengths and added short range to weaknesses, as well as adding long range as a neutral value.

I'm, admittedly, not the best at bios. I prefer letting characters grow in-story, but I've added a few events that expand on her character a little. If you need even more, I'll think up of more.

@Heckno12I'd add in more weaknesses, and strengths if he has any if not set what you can to neutral. As it stands he only has one strength, and one weakness in total.

You could also clean up your own character sheet a bit it still has a lot of the jumble I had on it. Also I'd definitely put what country of origin he came from as there are a lot of different theaters. In the novel the american gears, and probably the euro gears are lagging behind Japan but ahead of China.

@AmmokkxAlright i'll let the bio slide by for now but are you sure you saved the new additions to your combat section? It doesn't look too different from when I first saw it. Or am I missing something?

Yeah. The mines about short and mid-range are new, and the long-range one in neutral is a replacement to the mid-range one that was there originally. I can't really think of what else I could add, there's two in every category by this point.
