What we need is people without commitment issues. Don't fucking post if you are going to drop without a word. If you are going to post stick with it.

This.

We've got the same number of active players as everyone else. At this moment Aniroleplay has about 300 members online, for example. And we're significantly larger than others like rPol. You just feel like the site is smaller than it is because:
  • No one posts often enough.
  • When they do post, it's in a larger range of short-lived roleplays, instead of fewer threads which last longer.
I do think that we need to start culturally shaming the abandonment of RPs, if not punishing these players officially in some way. As it stands they face no consequences for their actions and that's why nothing ever changes.

I do agree with this sentiment, but I also would like to point out that the issue of non-dedication is hardly an RPGuild thing, heck, RPGuild is probably only average in how problematic it is. This sort of thing happens in any place you can RP down to sites not even designed for it, and even with way larger communities(RPnation comes to mind) I also see a larger amount of uninspired and dead roleplays. It's not like our community has a higher percentile of droppers, they're just more prominent because the people complaining about it on this specific site also tend to primarily use RPGuild.

To get back to the main topic at hand, I, for one, don't think we NEED more users. I would prefer to have more dedicated players join the site, but in general, with more people joining the above problem will still exist and remain.

Is it productive to create established blacklists though? I get not favoring working with certain individuals, but there is also the need to ostracize them from the community by “warning” directors of prospective RPs. Where is the line of “Hey, this is a problematic player, here’s their reputation.” and “I hate this person, it’s me or them. You need to remove them or else.”?

That's the simple part, really. The blacklist's stewards need only demand evidence of wrongdoing: screenshots, and if it's a public (non-PM) thread, URLs.

The difficult part is drawing the parameters of guilt. Some people, for example, would think that leaving an RP for any reason, through any method, earns the player a black spot. I, for one, would argue that if you announce your leave, you're innocent, whereas going AWOL is blacklist-worthy. Others would object to the blacklist itself as a matter of principle, believing that RPers should be allowed to come and go as they choose. We as a community would need to agree on these boundaries before any real progress is in our reach.

This, pretty much.

These people are the ones who cause big problems. Especially if they are -Hidden- in Ghost Mode. Thankfully through the power of adding Friends, you can root out the hidden users and figure out when they are online. And a basic look at their post history can tell you if they are ignoring you and your group or not.

When they don't even respond to being Mentioned, you know you've hit a big offender.

Or you know, you can just contact them through PM and ask them what's up like a normal human being? This might just be my point of view, but I find lack of proper communication one of this site's biggest contributing factors to unneeded drama and activity.

A public mention and a private inquiry might indicate different responses in my experience, I guess is what I am getting at.

Yes, we can do that and drive the person away from the site entirely. Brilliant move for humiliating someone for actions that may have not been their fault.

Negative actions bring negative results, so why would you venture down that route?

@NuttsnBolts If they're already quitting the RPs they join anyway then I don't see how one more form of absence will be noticed.

So let me see if I can understand your point of view...

We only have a finite amount of members, we are already talking about the slow decline in roleplayers and quality roleplays on the site, and your solution is "they've already quit an RP, if they leave the site then who cares"?

R.I.P. Guild if you ever became it's admin.

@NuttsnBolts Well, yeah. If they're not roleplaying then what are they doing here, and why is it the Guild's problem?

if they're not reliable enough to consistently see an rp to its' end point then we don't need them here. let's also keep in mind that quality is declining, not just players.

I'm just under the impression that a number can be turned into a roleplayer and thus, they can become a valued contribution to the community. That's why I mentioned on the last page...
What I have noticed is that there are less discussions in the "Roleplay Discussion" section, which in reality should be overflowing with people discussing various topics and not enter into an abusive war. Maybe topics on things like "What can you do if your RP dies?" or "How do I manage bad players into good ones?"

I just believe there needs to be more support for new people and new GMs, as well as regular checks on those that have been round for a while to see if they need a pick-me-up. This can be quite a lonely hobby and if you don't feel like youre making a difference and that nobody notices you, then why would you actually bother? At that point that's when you are most likely to drop an RP, and it's not always going to be the newbie, but it could be one of our valued veterans.

Lose a member, and you lose their creativity and imagination. Embrace them and your limit of discovery has been expanded for the entire community.
