Hell, I'd argue good writer doesn't equal good roleplayer.

Correct. However, you can be both a good writer and a good roleplayer. Personally, I view myself as both as I prefer collaborative writing to solo writing. I would not be immersing myself in this hobby for nearly twenty years if I just wanted to write a book; the sentiment is absurd. On a semi-related note, I would also prefer to work with someone similar to my level of descriptive detail, narrative, and characterization ability as I am rarely interested in adjusting my writing level down as it is unconstructive for me to do so.

IMO, the most pressing problem with the site is the lack of updates from the site or Mahz. I get he's a busy guy I really do, but it's kind of disheartening when you don't even get a "hey I'm still alive." Also, another issue is mahz's idea of punishment. I get that he wants to be a fair and forgiving guy, but some people need to be banned perm. Mods need more support/power to do things basically. There probably needs to be another admin as well, but I doubt Mahz will allow this to occur since we've only ever had Mahz as an admin from my time here.

Just my two cents.

Mahz does indeed view RPG as a sole proprietorship, though that seems to be a problematic choice given his lack of efficient administration of it as a service.

To @SleepingSilence's point, there is such a thing as purple prose, where a lot gets written and nothing accomplished. That can be as annoying to read as rapid fire.

Free isn't my cup of tea either, but there's no reason to insult those who enjoy it. Same for Advanced: not all the people there are elitist snobs.

I think one issue with splitting the sections into these three categories is that many RPs end up somewhere between the delineation. I have seen several "high-casual" RPs. These typically are the same as Advanced, just more accessible (I'm sure people would disagree). My point is that there is a huge difference betwern rapid fire posting and 10 paragraphs per post, and most of that gets tossed into Casual.

@catchamber can't the guy have a vacation? I mean, how much are you paying for this site? As far as I can tell, it's still free.

At that point you are just determining which community of writers you'd rather write with and are appealing to with your idea. Nothing wrong with that.

Yes, let's have him take another long vacation and excuse him from being responsible! Such naivety results in a major movement of users to Iwaku, RPN, and RPA. That sounds like a manageable and intelligent decision. It's happened before, there are records.

While I do agree mahz is busy and deserves time off, that's not to say that he should not be criticized for his lack of activity. There are plenty of qualified people willing to step in and do part of his job, if not all. I feel that Mahz often leaves much of site administration to himself, which would be fine if he was active.

I'm sure people would be willing to donate to have a coder do some work, or maybe we have some coders in the community who are willing to step up. Mahz just doesn't want that to happen, due to some moral code or something, which again is understandable, but it doesn't do wonders for the site.

Agree. There was a lot of discussion about removing those lines. I don't think that's the answer. Yes, doing so would make it less obvious that certain groups are slowing. But it would also dump all the fish into the same tank, so to speak, and I don't think we should mix the minnows with the sharks. Chaos would ensue.

Of course, That's fair enough, you shouldn't have to roleplay with people who don't interest you or match with what you want. If you're 1x1'ing or running your own campaign. I hope you don't think that statement was meant for you. That was just a general thing I do feel like, some people think writing a book would take too much commitment and roleplay instead. And I usually can tell by how they behave in roleplays especially if they're a GM. I do feel like collab writing can be used fine, but it can also possibly feel excluding. But that's a different conversation. I just wish I could see a little more flexibility overall. I've seen a person drop an RP midway through because they didn't like "how the plot was unfolding." and because of a newly added player that wasn't going as in depth as everyone else. Mind, the person wasn't being lazy, was just younger in age. And I feel like that action itself was petty.

I have done the same thing. If the RP fits a direction I oppose, I will discuss it but if I come to a conclusion where I am not going to enjoy myself I am going to respectfully leave and move on. It is a legitimate thing to do.

Also, there are only 4 forum-wide mods, one of which *cough*@Kangaroo*cough* has been inactive for 5 months? If you think a 3 person team can regulate the behavior of 100+ people on a daily basis, you need a reality check.

Well that's also a good point...

I don't necessarily disagree with that. I mean if you aren't enjoying something, then I guess there's no point. I just feel like people will leave for the dumbest reasons, maybe not any specific reason at all. And the GM's don't have a way to handle it, a lot of time. Precisely why most of my RP's are as bloodthirsty as they are. Having a character vanish from your RP in the middle of the plot. And the GM and players only action is. "Well that character is ret-conned, onto more meandering." The RP does sort of become a very very bad book at that point. Especially if the posts are extremely wordy and lengthy on top of that.

Also, Kangaroo has not been inactive for several months. This is incorrect. Please don't spread misinformation.

Ah, only took a page of scrolling to see somebody calling someone an idiot without provocation (and it not being a joke.) Off topic but still is a little sad to see. ^-^'

Now this was a thread that had some good potential and had legitimate criticism of the way the guild is being run; all of us acknowledge that the guild is not run flawlessly but we are doing the best we can.

In terms of my personal activity; if you dm me on discord, I will generally get back to you ASAP, however I don't constantly sit on the forums.

I'm going to close this thread, but if you want to start a new one; keep it constructive.
