Name:Reinalyn Velovins
Age:26
Appearance:
Reina, despite an aura that isn't very pleasant, could be considered attractive from the standards of her time. She stands at a lean 5'7, about standard height, and attains a lithe. agile body type, with long legs, a slim waist, and slender arms holding well-blending, wiry muscle underneath. Her hair, cut short to just a half a centimeter below her chin, is colored a light, almost feathery brown. Her eyes are a shade of pale blue that seem to be darkened rather than piercing, shadows from erratic sleeping surrounding them. The clothing in her appearance photo is her normal wear while traveling or among strangers, and you'll rarely see her without her weaponry or armor on her body.
Personality:Reina is a mercenary, meaning that she is hired by others to kill certain people in exchange for an allotted amount of currency. That being said, Reina has killed many people, and this fact alone has molded her into a solemn, quiet person. Her silence isn't a timid or shy type - not in the least. Reina is perfectly able to carry a conversation, she just tends to have no desire to start one. She seems wise, beyond her years, as if she had seen and done things many others haven't, which is slightly true, in all honesty. Being a mercenary isn't fun and games - it leaves it's mark on your conscious, and that's exactly what it did to Reina. She's incredibly jaded, almost
toojaded, and doesn't get surprised, shocked, frightened, or impressed easily at all. It takes a lot to derive emotions like these from her. She seems to always be prepared and alert, another trait attained from her job, and is constantly ready to leap into action or evade out of it. Her persistence and diligence is legendary; never before had she left with an incomplete mission.
Despite all of these useful traits, it's apparent that Reina isn't all skill; memories haunt her and she gets painful flashbacks frequently whenever they are triggered, as well as nightmares that keep her up at night. She can even become a victim to episodes of temporary trauma if something manages to strike her deeply enough to trigger it, resulting in impulsive behavior, refusal to verbally speak, and a lack of motivation to do anything. These can last for a few minutes to a full couple of days, but it all depends.
Backstory:Reina was born and raised into a home with a single mother, in a low middle-class lifestyle. Her mother would often seek out small jobs in order to earn meager payment, maintaining a small home and a steady, thin stream of money to pay for the necessities. Life wasn't ideal, not at all, but it was something to be thankful for. Reina and her mother developed a very strong, caring bond for each other, almost a bond-of-arms, as if they were two soldiers battling their way through a war side-by-side. It was a stable, ever-growing relationship between mother and daughter that would surely never wear.
That is, until her mother suddenly was struck with sickness.
It began with nothing more than a simple cough and grew into something that weakened her mother to the point that she couldn't even stand. Reina had grown desperate. Doctors of her town attempted to cure her, and though it did slow the process of weakening her mother, it did not eradicate the virus she had managed to capture. Without her mother working jobs alongside Reina, money sloped downhill at a rapid rate. Reina began to work harder, becoming stronger, more assertive, more desperate and willing to take on many types of tasks in order to gain money. But even this wasn't enough to catch up with what the family had before. And so, after a while of struggling and searching for a well-paying job, Reina found out about being a mercenary - a trained, paid killer.
And then, Reina had to face a decision. She could go to the lowliest part of the rungs of the position ladder, and sell her body to men in exchange for money. Be ridiculed, looked down upon, and constantly risking her life, putting it in the hands of greedy, generally disgusting, and possibly dangerous men. Or she could train, work hard, and risk her life in a different way - risk it killing for others, gaining pay in return, being feared rather than shunned, taking higher risks, yet less chances for dying at the hands of customers who hired her,
The decision was made. Reina began working herself physically. She managed to take on small jobs that required physical endurance to help her train. She molded herself into a woman of agility. She even picked on people to start brawls, and to learn from experience, learn from her mistakes. After months of this personal training, Reina advertised herself for the first time, and gained her first customer, who needed her to assassinate just a single man.
It worked out well.
Though killing a living person was her first ever scar on her mind, and it left itself in existence to haunt her, she did it. She wasn't caught. She wasn't seen. The man was no longer alive by her own doing, She was paid a hefty amount, and sent on her way,
Her occupation as a mercenary began this way, and the condition of her mother, though worsening very, very slowly, was paid for. Reina caught up on the family's previous amount of money after a while, and began earning more than the mother and daughter combined had earned before. She upgraded herself in her work, adjusted to the killing she'd be paid to do, trained herself to become better and better. She now is ranked as a legendary mercenary among the assassin's community, and kept supporting her dear mother the whole way through.
But it couldn't last. Her mother eventually passed away from the illness, leaving Reina utterly alone and sending her into a spiral of depression for a long while. This, and all of the killing Reina had done, was what really removed her sense of surprise and shock and jaded her. She grew from a more enthusiastic young woman into the solemn, quiet girl she's seen as nowadays. She left her home out of fear her homeland would bring back painful memories, and began traveling from town to town, region to region, making her name known and earning money through her jobs along the way, labeling herself as a free mercenary without a bondage to any direct or permanent employer
That's when she was noticed by Merrick. He took a great interest in her skill, and her reputation for always completing what she's been assigned, the diligence she holds. He eventually approached her, and spoke to her about this mission, and of something that was pretty much the capturing word for Reina - dragons.
As a child, Reina had always had a very potent interest in dragons. She studied them, studied their attributes, their breeds, their tendencies. Though it was many years ago, the knowledge and the interest managed to stick with her. She felt a bit skeptical at first, unsure if he was just fibbing to lure her into a trap. She knew that people feared her, some despised her, others wanted her existence to be wiped off of the earth. Merrick seemed to recognize this skepticism, and therefore provided proof by showing her Obsidian Nova.
Even with such a jaded outlook on just about everything, Reina was absolutely dazzled and completely shocked to see a living dragon, in the flesh, in all it's glory. She couldn't resist his offer at that point, She hastily agreed, eager to see these dragons he spoke of, using the knowledge she had gathered on her own of these beautiful and deadly creatures to her advantage. She is more than ready to take on one of these beasts and make one her own - her diligence will make sure of that.
Skills/Abilities:Relentlessness - Reina will not stop at anything to complete a task or job she is assigned. You can depend on her to get it done, and get it done thoroughly.
Reflexes - Don't try to pull some clever move on her. She'll catch it, and she'll retaliate before you even realize it.
Endurance - Both physically and mentally, Reina holds a sense of endurance in two forms - pain resistance, and honesty resistance. She won't tell you anything, no matter what you decide to do to her, and she can outlast many types of injuries without falling complete victim to the pain they cause.
Bonded Power - Being bonded with the Solar Dragon of the mix has provided a unique skill involving manipulation of solar rays from the sun. She can manifest these rays into weaponry to forge a scorching burn and better cutting power with each strike she delivers with a variety of weapons. It isn't fire, just intense heat that is more than able to inflict damage onto a human.
