Magic Resistance: B
Spells with a chant below three verses are cancelled, proving difficult to affect even by the likes of
High Thaumaturgy or
Greater Rituals. Living in the Age of Gods when magic and monsters were commonplace assures Lancer at least a decent rank in this Skill, which has been further elevated by his deep faith as a holy man. Spells drawing their power from Buddhist scriptures and philosophy have a notable chance of bypassing Lancer's resistance.
Attendant of Iron: A+
A Skill that reinforces the attributes of one's Master through proximity alone. At this rank, simply being contracted to Lancer grants his Master superhuman physical prowess equal to rank E stats across the board. Should Lancer be at his Master's side the boon is further increased, with their stats reaching up to C-rank. Further training from Lancer makes it even possible to raise their attributes further, though only the worthiest of Masters would be able to stand against him in sparring. A symbolization of the eternal bond of loyalty that held between Lancer and his sworn liege.
Battle Continuation: A+
A manifestation of his unshakable devotion to his Master (Lord), Lancer possesses one of the highest ranks in this Skill. He can keep fighting even in the face of crippling injuries. Blows that should kill an ordinary man ten times over will merely slow Lancer down slightly. Only the accumulation of multiple fatal wounds or the decisive destruction of his head or heart can put him down once and for all. Defending his liege in his final battle, Lancer slew over two hundred troops and withstood attack from every kind of weaponry. When the troops realized fighting Lancer head-on was a futile effort they drew back and bombarded him with an unceasing hail of arrows. Legend has it that Lancer's body, which was pierced by over a hundred arrows, remained towering and upright even in death- leaving his foes terrified to advance for fear that the mighty warrior still drew breath. A plus modifier is granted to this Skill in the case where Lancer is fighting to defend someone he conceptualizes as his "Lord".
Dread Visage: B
The ability to inspire fear in others through one's form and manner. Lancer was rumored to have a terrible ogre-like appearance that made even the greatest warriors fear to approach him. While his physical appearance is quite different from such description, the terrifying reputation surrounding Lancer was certainly no exaggeration. Entering combat, Lancer cloaks himself in the savage aura of an Oni. Though his outward appearance does not change, those fighting Lancer can't help but perceive him not as a human being, but a beast or devil in the form of a man. Lancer's presence exerts an immense mental pressure on his rivals, assaulting them with the overpowering sense of facing a monster that has long since surpassed humanity. Weak-minded foes are paralyzed outright, making it easy for Lancer to cut them down on the spot. On the other hand, even stronger opponents find the fear instilled by Lancer gnawing at the back of their minds during battle, hindering them from fighting at full effectiveness. Complete evasion is possible by means of Bravery or a related Skill that specializes in rebuffing mental interference at rank B or higher.
Monstrous Strength: C
An innate ability usually possessed by monsters and beasts; denoting the power to raise one's Strength parameter by one ranking for a given duration. At this rank, Lancer can grant himself a boost in Strength lasting for roughly half of battle. To explain his immense strength and fearsome visage, some legends proposed that Lancer was descended from monstrous gods or Oni. The title he received,
Oniwaka, stood as testament to his believed otherworldly heritage. As a visual effect, while this Skill is active Lancer's appearance takes a turn for the demonic. His skin reddens and gains a rough texture like sandpaper, eyes turn bloodshot, his hair grows even longer and more unkempt while his teeth sharpen to the point where they can tear through human flesh with ease.
In addition to his other defensive Noble Phantasms, Lancer is summoned with his trusty Naginata, a weapon that he has used since the beginning of his career as a warrior. While this weapon does not sport any unique properties on its own, it is still a strong and reliable polearm that could be classified as a Rank-D Noble Phantasm. It is a weapon that further compliments Lancer's already defensive fighting style, resulting in this specific Servant specializing in standing their ground and fighting defensively in lieu of the usual hit-and-run tactics Lancer-class Heroic Spirits normally use.
You Shall Not Pass!
Oni of Gojō Bridge
Type: Anti-Unit
Rank: C
Range: 2 - 20 (challenge range), 20-99(bounded field size)
Maximum Number of Targets: 1
A Noble Phantasm that re-enacts the beginning of Lancer's legend. Lancer set up a Buddhist shrine at Gotō bridge, and declared that any samurai that attempted to cross it must duel with him first. During this time, Lancer defeated and disarmed 999 samurai without a single loss, collecting the blades of the fallen as testaments to his battle prowess. It was only until the arrival of the feudal lord Ushiwakamaru that broke Lancer's winning streak.
This Noble Phantasm allows Lancer to designate a territory where the opponent must defeat him in order to pass. Invoked by Lancer drawing a line on the ground in front of him with his naginata and shouting the true name of this Noble Phantasm, both Lancer and his opponent are encased inside a Bounded Field which can vary in size, up to the size of a football field. A translucent barrier of green light marks the edge of the territory encompassed by the field, but that is only to those who are watching it from outside. Within the bounded field, the space is folded on itself, giving the illusion of an infinite battlefield. Those who attempt to flee would only find themselves running towards the center once again. On the other hand, onlookers who attempt to intervene or enter the Bounded Field will only find themselves harmlessly passing through the barrier on to the other end of the "battlefield," bypassing the internal space entirely. This goes with ranged attacks as well.
If more than one party is within range when Lancer activates this Noble Phantasm, everyone but one person selected by Lancer as his opponent will be pushed out as the field expands. further ensuring a strict one-on-one duel. Once inside, the only way to destroy the bounded field and advance is to defeat Lancer in mortal combat. In order to further ensure a fair fight, the barrier also has the effects of suppressing the invocation of other Noble Phantasms from all combatants in the field, including Lancer. In order to break this field, Lancer must be "defeated," not specifically "to die." . If the opponent forces him to surrender without being killed then that will also count as victory just as if they actually claimed his life outright. Of course, Lancer can also end this field at will.
Within the simulated territory of this Noble Phantasm, swords rise from the ground, appearing permanently embedded within the ground. They serve no purpose but to further simulate the conditions of battle this Noble Phantasm recreates. As such, they aren't actually real weapons, and are there purely for their visual effect of "further attesting to Lancer's battle prowess." Furthermore, cherry blossoms appear to randomly drift through the air, showering the battlefield with them. All these are nothing but magical constructs that further add dramatics to the duel.
To invoke this Noble Phantasm, Lancer must use about 100 units of magical energy. The cost to maintain the field varies based on the size of it, but generally the mana cost is "efficient enough to give time for a proper duel."
Even In Death, My Devotion Stands Firm
Last Stand of Benkei
Type: Anti-Fall
Rank: EX
Range: -
Maximum Number of Targets: 1
The crystallization of the last- and perhaps most famous- feat Lancer had accomplished. Pierced by a hundred arrows, Lancer remained standing far after his death, his loyalty to his liege as well as his own pride not permitting him to falter in his stance even in death. An immensely powerful defensive Noble Phantasm has been sublimated from this feat of unyielding guardianship.
When this Noble Phantasm's true name is invoked, Lancer's legs dig into the ground with astounding force, anchoring themselves down. Immense amounts of prana begin to flow from the very earth into Lancer's body, reinforcing his defensive prowess to immeasurable proportions. In this singular moment, Lancer is likened to a great mountain - immovable and implacable. Even the strongest of blows will fail to knock him down, the force from such attacks rebounding off harmlessly onto the attacker and the surrounding terrain. Even attacks in the magnitude of Anti-Fortress or higher are reflected, likely dispersing into terrible waves of destructive force scouring Lancer's surroundings. In other words, while this Noble Phantasm is active, it is conceptually impossible for Lancer to fall or even yield a single step.
The cost of such power is tremendous, and Lancer could only maintain this for no longer than a minute (possibly more if his Master's mana reserves are particularly high). If held any longer, Lancer's death is just about certain. It is also important to note that this effect is only effective against attacks that would cause Lancer to fall, and is all but powerless against attacks that kill Lancer but leave him standing in place, reflecting upon how Lancer ultimately died in his life.
