[IC] Digimon: World of Stone

Robert was quiet for a while now, following the group more focused on tapping away on a device on his arm rather that looking a head until he heard Kiba's question, to he gave a look of you kidding me mate?

"You just got that? You do realize we came though the internet, a series of interconnected computer networks. Thank you for finally being on the same page as the rest of us. Though it may sound absurd the idea of us being converted into data isn't that far fetched. The digital monsters of our world, simply mimic the neurons pathways of our brains, though we aren't quite at the level of mimicking a human and more of a rat's brain at the very most, but we already established that this place is different from our world. If you are still questioning it I have a better way of showing that this is all digital."

Robert took out his wallet, a designer brand and looked expensive as all hell, but looked completely normal. He slowly waved it back and forth like he was trying to distract a room full of three year olds. He turned the back of his wrist to the group revealing a computer watch, which had been modified with a small keyboard. The screen was mostly black, but had white lines of code running across it. When he had heard that this world was one of data, so he started to see if he could apply his hacking abilities to the world and spent the last moments seeing if he could and the end result, he realized there were quite a few differences between the code from here and our world, so he would require quite a bit of time to get used to it, but there was quite a few simple things he could do, after all the basics has to stay the same. After a few taps on his watch, that definitely didn't make him look like for a lack of a better word a total dweeb, the wallet elongated along the X axis up to 3ft on both sides.

"So still questioning it?"

Kiba stared at Robert for a split second before tilting his head in confusion.We came … through the Internet? He thought confused. Wait how DID I get hear? After thinking for a bit he finally remembered. He was … sucked into his phone while he was watching a YouTube video of a cat and a dog playing chess together, and fell asleep during the transfer.

“Hehe whoops.” He said scratching the back of his head. “Sorry. Sometimes slow on the upkeep.” He said with a chuckle, trying to hide his embarrassment. I feel like this is karma for teasing that one girl.

Norn touched the altar, and a small, holographic keypad appeared with symbols that Ryūko couldn't understand. Mikihara tapped a code in, and the top of the altar split open, revealing several small devices. Each was slightly larger than a credit card, and colored a flat gunmetal gray. "These are for you," said Norn. "They will be necessary for your journey, and will help your Digimon attain new forms and strength through Digivolution."

"... Digi-what now?" asked Ryūko.

"Oh, right. I forgot, your universe has not had any contact with Digimon, either as something real or in media."

"'Our uni--'?" Norn abruptly cut her off.

"You see, Digimon attain stronger forms when paired with a human Tamer thanks to the Tamer's emotions. In the case of Tamer-bound Digimon, the Digivolution is not permanent. When too much energy has been expended, the Digimon will revert to its normal form, or even a form that it previously had, if so much was used up that they are unable to maintain their usual form." Ryūko took one of the devices. "These are called D-Terminals. While I do not know which Digimon Yggdrasill has paired you with, I have been assured that they are in Nyttliv as we speak."

Ryūko frowned. "Wait, as a fragment of Yggdrasil, shouldn't you know what he... it's thinking?"

"I am an independently-operating fragment. Let me put it this way: if I were a computer program, I could see something occurring as the computer runs, and decide on my own whether or not to do something. For example, if Yggdrasill told me to take two steps to the right, I could instead take two steps to the left. In that respect, as long as Yggdrasill does not die, then I can operate as I see fit, unless he stops me."

Danny agreed with the white haired boy that it took the brown haired boy way too long to figure out that they were probably in a computer, even though it was no doubt more complex, but he didn't think the reaction was justified. Before he could say anything though thw white haired boy took out his wallet and showed off what he could do by hacking. It was impressive that he figured out how to do something like that and Danny made no attempt to hide the amazement form his face, but he was certain that compared to some of the things they would see here it was almost normal.

A bit later he watched as Norn did something to what he assumed was an altar and revealed it's contents, several strange devices that would have each fitted in the normal version of the" amazing size changing wallet", but there was something he was confused about even after the human girl had asked the oblivious questions. "Wait, if natural Digivolution is permanent how is the temporary version so important? And are there more than two universes?"

While Norn was explains things Robert simply walked up to the altar just nodding in between each explanation and just took a D-teriminal of the altar Like he was taking bread from the counter and then inspected it. As expected it didn't have the style of our world, but judging from what they seen, it didn't have the style of this one either, so where could have come from? It honestly looked more like a toy than an out of this world piece of hardware. Robert inspected it further and found that there was a button on the side that he pressed and it flipped open the screen, making it more of Nintendo DS and Gameboy hybrid, however, before he could start it... a bolt of lightning ran across his head as his migraine from earlier came back. He put his palm on his head as an Image flashed across his mind. A black and gold knight, with a tattered cape, stood before him looking at him with a piercing glare before turning around with a swoosh of his cape and walking away, causing the vision to fade and to find himself on one knee, with several beads of sweat running down his face. He didn't really have anything witty to say this time and just pretend nothing was wrong and to continue their talks, keeping the image of the aloof black knight to himself. Though he wondered what the hell that was all about.

However, somewhere not so far away another had the same vision, but unlike Robert he was not a human, no he was vaguely shaped like a small T-Rex covered in purple fur with tips of white, like a uniquely colored beast and small bat like wings which was too small to create enough lift to fly, a red triangular gemstone laid on his forehead. Ever since Tactimon invaded his hometown he had to run from place to place, he had no why and he was interested in being caught as getting caught by Tactimon's army usually meant a fate worse than death, so he was never in one place for very long, but now he was before this place, he could see the White Castle stretched above the rest of the village, he knew he'd get answers here and only path was forward.

"Natural Digivolution is extremely difficult to undergo," Norn explained. "There are multiple stages. The first, after being born, is Fresh. Then is In-Training, and then Rookie. Naturally speaking, these stages can be obtained by growing stronger. Consider it 'growing up'. However, the more powerful forms require data to obtain. The only way to do this is to take it from other Digimon... in other words, by fighting."

Ryūko paused, biting her lip. "I see," she said. "By taking the data, does it kill the oponent?"

"It can," said Norn. "At the very center of every Digimon's physical form is something called a Digicore. A Digimon can survive severe trauma as long as the Digicore isn't destroyed. But if a Digimon's Digicore is absorbed..." Norn trailed off.

"I... I see," Ryūko murmured.

"Taking a Digicore boosts a Digimon's strength much more than just taking all the other data. Because of that simple fact, some Digimon are willing to kill their opponents for the sake of power. That is why you are all here: to stop those who do that."

A great deal of information had been explained by Norn, circus tricks were being performed by the white-haired kid, and the masses were taking it all in like fan-boys. Nowe stood off from the rest of them, thinking solely on what he had left behind to be... here. In a pale white castle, with fantastically unreal things, a caretaker who claims to be part of God, and a couple of quirky strangers. Though he would wager himself the weirdest with his self-imposed attire. Decked down in the black clothing of mystery, wearing a mask of ambiguity.

He tucked his remaining hand in his pocket and simply gazed up at the high-ceiling. It was so very far away. So... grandiose. He let out a heavy sigh; just thinking of how he wanted to stay had tightened the hold on him. I'm horrible, he chuckled in his mind. I left an ailing man at home. The only family I have left. And... And all I can think of is what this world can offer me. What I can experience and do here. How I can live here.

From the bottom of his vision he noticed the hazy white of that kid's hair. He was moving to the opened altar now, grabbing hold of the devices Norn had offered them. Should he take one? he wondered. His face tightened with apprehension behind his mask.
Can I really leave him to defend himself at home? He's helpless without me in the mornings. Who'll feed him or cook him breakfast? who'll wash him at night after a long day of just...laying there in pain? or... or... Nowe fell back against the wall in defeat.

He had his responsibilities at home, that's where he needed to be. "Norn," he spoke aloud, head low and teal hair heavy. "Send me back. I can't be apart of this."

When Nowe had his back to the wall Robert looked at the masked kid. "Liar." Robert paused for a moment. Then said to Nowe "That's not how you truly feel isn't it? You've got something that's bugging you. Something that has you torn." Robert simply shrugged. "But let me tell you that there's always a way even when you think there isn't. You just have to keeping moving the way you want and never slow down and you'll reach it, but should you be telling the reason why to the person that needs help infront of you?" With that Robert turned to the back wall and leaned against it. Not saying why or wanting to say why he suddenly spoke out.

His fist tightened furiously in his pockets, hidden from view, the same as the intense scowl on his face. It took that moment of presumption for Nowe to understand his ire with the white-haired kid. The kid who joked when things were serious, who put on a air of superiority when others were confused, who stepped in, offering only words, attached to a good guess. The white-haired kid, at his core, was shallow arrogance.

Nowe's head lowered for just a second before raising slow and steady. "You don't know me or my situation, don't fool yourself into thinking you do, Kid." Then he just as angrily turned towards the mouthpiece of Yggdrasil. "Norn?" he commanded now. "Send me back. I can't stay, I have someone at home depending on me."

Robert threw the D-terminal into the back of Nowe's head, the metallic device bouncing off the moss head with a loud smack. "Let me guess from the way that you talk, that person is dying aren't they. Don't bother confirming your impatience gives it up and you're going to need help a god's help in order to help them." Robert thumbed towards Norn. "HERE'S A FREAKING GOD RIGHT HERE!" Robert pointed out it out to him. Robert sighed. "You really are a moss head if you are that slow." Robert shrugged in annoyance.

He sensed danger or perhaps it was because he was already wry of the boy but he ducked the moment a blur flashed from the white-haired kid. The device flew overhead and Nowe's patience with the boy had finally boiled over. Behind his masked he smiled, because he was use to dealing with violence, not so much with emotions. The white-haired kid, whether he realized it or not, had helped considerably. Nowe turned to face him now, his hands sliding out his pockets.

"That's strike three, Kid. Norn being a God won't save you from me." He started walking towards the white-haired boy. "And yea, someone I love is dying. That's why I won't forgive you for getting in my way."

Kiba looked between the two in a panic. "U-um maybe we should all calm down." He said as he walked over to grab the thrown D-terminal. Now standing in between the two. "Things are a little tense right now so let's all take a breath and think of this alittle."

He took a deep breath before continuing. "All of us are in a new world that we don't know anything about, let's think about it in a positive way guys. Like how ... ummm, like how this is an opertunity in a way. A world with no rules or prior engagements. To not have anything holding us back."

Ryūko was initially shocked at the outburst but when more than one person started raising their voice she decided to step in. She grabbed both Robert and Nowe by the collar. "Everyone needs to calm down," she said firmly. "Spazzing out and throwing things at each other isn't going to get us anywhere." The girl let the two go, giving both a good push; she was stronger than she looked.

"Yggdrasill is aware," Norn said. "I can assure you that your loved one will be safe while you are here. I swear it." Norn's voice was even. "With access to every network connected to the internet, Yggdrasill is aware of each and every one of your lives on Earth."

[Shiyonichi]

"Good god, I had this." Robert rolled his eyes. "Well since you managed to calme mosshead down, thanks. But right now I should sum this up in the bluntest way possible, so no anger blind slow wit can mistaken it." Robert took a deep breath and as he exhaled, he said "Mosshead ask Norn or that Ygg-whatever if they can heal that person or if they know someone or something that can." Shaking his head in a way to possibly express disappointment. "This world has many thing that we don't have, so maybe they have something that can fix the problem, haven't you thought of that!" Robert took back his D terminal.

Somewhere outside the castle.

"Why do I get the feeling of annoyance and urge to destroy shrubbery?"-

He had been almost oblivious to the calm-eyed boy, his words were shaky it seemed but they had reached him in a small sense. If only it was that easy, he thought to himself, still stepping towards the white-haired kid. They didn't understand; none of them could, he imagined. But it wasn't their fault. He wouldn't wish his life on any of them. Not even the white-haired kid.

He continued onward, ignoring the soft-spoken boy. It wasn't until he was yanked by his collar and brought close by Ryuko had he regained some form of perspective. "H-Hey," he growled, gazing at her behind his mask. "N-Not so close!"

It was all he could get out before she lectured the both of them. He had realized, somewhere in-between her letting go and being pushed, that the girl was strong. Not strong enough to move him from his spot but he had felt her intent. He lowered his head, letting out a cool breath before sliding his hands back into his pockets. Then Norn spoke. Her words eased him, and it was his desire to stay, to believe them that kept him from questioning her further.

Once the white-haired kid had blabbered on again, Nowe took a moment to consider his next words. He needed them to be just as blunt as this guy was condescending. He needed him to know exactly how he felt. "From this moment on I want nothing to do with you, Kid. I hate people like you the most."

He only had one more thing to discuss. "Ryuko," he said lowly. "Be more careful with yourself. That was brave and all, but I can see this happening again." He scratched the crown of his head and passed her, making his way to the alter. He grabbed a device, looked at Norn, and dipped his head slightly in gratitude. "Thank you, Norn. Sorry...for the outburst."

[Shiyonichi]

Robert sighed in disbelief and then said to Norn. "Norn can you please tell this guy if you can heal that person, he's got such a self destructive personality." Robert didn't apologize to anyone, he didn't listened to what Nowe said. He put his hands into his pocket his right hand grasping the D-terminal. To the others besides Nowe it seemed out of character for him to keep trying to help Nowe, but he really didn't care about that. For the first time infront of them he stood tall. He stood properly. It told the rest he wouldn't budge from the issue.

Ryūko glared at Robert. She'd known him less than an hour, and he was already pissing her off. She took a breath. "Miss Mikihara?" she asked.

"I myself cannot prevent your loved one's death," she said. "However, you needn't worry. Due to the nature of Witchelny, time flows at a much higher rate than on Earth. At the very most, you will only be gone for a few minutes."

"So nothing to worry about," she said.

Only you can't, as in someone else might be able to, but there's another issue, he'll just find the person himself and push the mosshead to him. I'll find a way. Robert was completely silent, but gave a gaze saying that he is going to save him, even though he never met him before, but he wasn't going to turn his back on him. There was another issue to attend to. He already put the pieces together. He told Norn, though back in a rude and condescending tone, after all didn't need to take his honor student persona infront of them, not like they'll meet him in the real world.

"Let me guess these Digimon who are taking digicores are causing big trouble and you need us to clean up the trash?"

He shrugged and took the pose from earlier to show his reslove and said as if it was the most sanest thing to do in the world.

"I'm in."

As Norn explained everything to them, Kibas mood immediately dropped when he came to a realization. In one way or another they were about to go into a war. Which means that digital or not, REAL lives are on the line. This reminds me of when I used to play chess with pops.

Flashback 5 years ago.

A 7 year old Kiba sat across from a tall muscular man in a suit, his face covered in shadows as the two of them played chess, with Kiba commanding white and the large man black. “Hmmmm, Checkmate!!!” Kiba yelled with a goofy grin on his face as he moved his bishop to block the older man's king. Doing a little dance in celebration.

The man looked down at the bored and smiled. “Well what do you know. Your strategic mind has bested my own yet again son! It's always a proud day when a son beats a father at something. Although I was hoping you'd do this at 20 not 10.” The man said in a booming voice. “However Kiba, you could have won MUCH sooner if you hadn't done … well this.” He said motion to the board. The chess board was an anomaly. Every piece moved yet not a single one taken. “You had many chances to destroy my rooks and bishops.”

Kiba stopped dancing and frowned. “But if I did that then they'd die.” He said simply, in a ‘are you stupid?’ tone.

The older man frowned at this. “Kiba my son, in war, REAL war, pieces fall. That's just how life is. And if you ever want to do what I do then you'll just have to accept that.” He said in a dark tone.

Kiba raised an eyebrow before tilting his head. “Pops, you're not making any sense.” He said before moving the pieces around. “Okay!! Round 2!!”

“Hmph fine, but you won't beat me as easy this time!!!” The father smiled as he helped reset the board.

Flashback ends.

Kiba approaches the altar and grabs the digivice examining it. He looks down, his usual soft and kind eyes now showing a more seriousness than usual expression. "Miss Fa ... Norn, is there a way to subdue enemies without killing them (destroying the core)?" Kiba then looks back up, his usual soft smile returning. "If so then I am also in."

"You are correct," Norn said to Robert. "But it will not be easy." She turned her blue eyes to Kiba next. "Yes, it is possible. However you will still have to fight. I will explain the enemy in detail later. For now, I think it is time to find who Yggdrasill has chosen to pair you with. This way, please."
