You wake up, brush your teeth, have a little breakfast, dress for your job, and make sure your gun is loaded.
This is a typical day for your average person. After all everyone needs good protection against the Pests. Pests have been a problem for as long as people remember. Life goes on as usual, but with the risk of these little abominations attacking you when you leave the house. Pests look like tentacle-mouthed, many-eyed spiders, ranging in size from small as a cat to as big as a medium sized dog.
Maniacles Corporation, a company that deals with mercenaries and weapons research and development, rose to power at some point after the Pest outbreak. Now, while police, law, and government still exist, Maniacles is so powerful they are often trusted the task of peacekeeping, as they are much more effective at combating the swarming pests.
One day, for one reason or another, your character is sent to participate in a project by Maniacles, which they claim is to get rid of the pests once and for all. Maybe you volunteer for their program, maybe you are only doing it to get out of going to prison, maybe they are forcing you through some means.
Regardless of why you are here, the purpose of the program is the strangest thing you have ever heard: To train participants in the art of magic.
All in favor of this, say "aye"
