James kept to himself. He tried not to look at Kali until he calmed himself. He wasn't sure what was wrong with him. It confused him greatly. He kept looking out the window.

Elizabeth blinked. She paused for a moment.
"Is....you can just tell me whatever."
She turned red for a brief moment.

he smiled at her and stopped dancing with her. he took her hand and led her off the dance floor to. a table to sit. i would like for you to ask me questions"he says to her. "do i scare you?" he asked her

kali bit her lower lip. she looked the young man she was talking to and finally xcused herself. she glanced around for James and saw him in the corner looking out the window and she sighed and walked out back. she took in a deep breath of air. the cook feeling filled her lungs. she walked over to the bench and sat down and frowned.

Elizabeth blinked. She frowned and shook her head no.
"no."

James blinked. He snapped out of his thoughts when there was movement near him. He noticed kali out of the corner of her eye. He could not help but follow her out back.

"okay so if i dont scare you, then whats wrong?" he asked her. "are you just really shy?" he asked her

kali was wiping tears away as they slowly fell down her cheek. she soghed as she looked down.

Elizabeth sighed.
"I...haven't socialized much. never had a reason to. most never looked twice at me unless the wanted my dowry."

James saw kali. He blinked and frowned. He walked up to her. He sat down on the bench next to her.

"those men are nuts" he says "and your in luck, im not after your money he told her. "if you were here and penniless i would look at you all night" he told her. "you miss Elizabeth are a beautiful women" he told her.

kali looked at him "oh.. hi" she said softly. "what are you doing out here?" she asked him and looked down.

Elizabeth blinked. She turned bright red. She nodded.
"oh, um, alright."
She bit her lip for a moment.

James looked at her.
"I could ask you the same thing."
He cleared his throat a bit and scooted closer, being careful as to not trigger another panic attack.
"Enjoying the fresh air?"
He suddenly felt awkward.

he smiled "what do you enjoy doing Elizabeth?" he asked her. "and you wont know anything about unless you start asking questions" he says winked at her.

kali shrugged her shoulders. "just needed some air" she said to him. "so you dont dance?" she asked him

Elizabeth shrugged.
"I mainly just had my books and my diary. My mother would not let me near the family piano. She didn't want me anywhere near music. My father rarely let me go out into the orchards...too dirty, he says."
She paused and took a breath.
"..and you?"

James sighed.
"I was not in the mood for it for some reason. I was watching you for a bit, but then I felt weird and had to look away."
He blushed after admitting that.

"books? what were your favorites?" he asked her "do you like music?" he asked her

"oh" she says softly. "i was hoping either you or my brother would have saved me from the man i was dancing with" she said "i made a fool of myself dancing stumbling over my own feet and stepping on his" she looked back down playing with her dress

James blinked. He frowned and sighed.
"I...hadn't seen that. I wasn't really near the dance floor anymore. I...I'm sorry."
He reached for her hand but then paused.

"I did not really have favorites besides the romance novels. I hid the ones I bought for myself since my parents never approved."
Elizabeth sighed. She nodded at the question about music.

kali saw his hand and stopped. she reached out and took his "you wont break me James" she says then let it go. "it doesnt matter anyway" she told him and gog up. "all you see when you look at me now is something that will break" she says to him. "goodnight James" she said to him and walk back inside to her brother.

Brandon smiled "romance novels" the corner of mouth ticked up into. a smile that met his eyes. "well good you like music maybe i can take you to a concert" he says to her. his gaze shifted and saw his sister walking towards him. kali made it to him. "im tired and going to my room" she said. "goodnite" she gave her a brother a kiss on the cheek. she looked at Elizabeth "it was nice meeting you Elizabeth" she said to her with a small smile.

James stood up.
"wait!"
He lost sight of her once inside. He growled and his eyes turned red. He was more angry at himself than anything else.
"Agh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
He punched a wall and the ballroom shook. He stormed upstairs. He went into his room to grab his bag. He decided not to stay after all. His mother had been right, he thought, he wasn't ready for this type of ball yet. He made for the front door after that, leaving a goodbye note for kali and her brother.

Elizabeth shrugged. she blinked when she saw kali. she merely nodded. She sensed something amiss. She gasped when she felt the room shaking. Her eyes went wide.

kali grabbed Brandon's shoulder as the room shook. she looked at Elizabeth and her look mirrored hers as wondering what just happened.

brandon looked at the girls." we are all okay dont worry" he looked around but didnt see any threats. "stay here i will go. check with the host about what haplened" he said to them and he walked to the front door to Eric. Kali took at seat with elizabeth. he bowed to him "excuse me but what caused the shaking?" he asked him

she looks at her "so you like my brother?" she asked her.

Eric took a breath.
"A guest just left. he looked pretty upset about something. I tried to ask what was wrong and convince him to stay, but he went right out the entrance."

James was already crossing the yard with his bag. He headed for his transportation.

Elizabeth blinked. She looked away. Her blush said it all.

he nodded and went to the door. he walked out and scanned around outside. he spotted James walking away "JAMES!!" Brandon called out to him and ran to catch up to him

kali smiled and giggled at her. "i have never seen him like this before" she admitted to elizabeth. "im a jealous." she told her.

James paused briefly. He glanced back. His eyes were red.

Elizabeth blinked. She froze at that, surprised.
"r...really?"

she smiled and nodded "yep" she says "he seems smitten" she told her. "him and i are close and have had him to myself for my whole life looking out for me" she says "i feel like that is changing and it scares me" she said.

Brandon wasnt winded by the run and caught up to him "hey where you going?" he asked "why are you upset?" he asked.

Elizabeth blinked. She was surprised again.
"he...he is?"
She quickly cleared her throat.
"oh, really?"

"I'm leaving."
James looked away.
"I've done more harm than good."

"i caught your conversation in my room earlier" she said "he asked to court you and you agreed" she stated. "i have never heard him talk about any women in that way" she told her. she teased her "you must have put a spell over him " she giggled "i just teasing with the last part" she added.

"what are you talking about James, come back in have a few drinks" he says to him. "im sure whatever is going on can be sorted out" he said
