Legends tell of four great warriors, each wielding a brilliant Crystal, who saved the world.
These warriors of the Light had banded together to combat the world's decline into destruction and decay, slaying the evil forces that caused this crisis.
With their combined might, and the blessing of the Elements, the Warriors were able to defeat the evil forces, restoring peace and prosperity to the world.
Afterwards, they each went their separate ways, coming to rule four continents of the world, guarding both the land and their Crystals.
Thousands of years later, the Crystals still shine their blessings upon the world, and while the heroes of old may have become merely legends of a fairy tale, the Crystals themselves are still revered as the 'heart' of the world, Gaia. Should darkness return to the land, they will lose their light without brave heroes to fight for them.
Day by day, the light of the Fire Crystal dims...
Gaia, a fantasy world in which magic is abound, monsters roam the plains, caves, meadows and abandoned castles, and world-shattering events happen every thousand or so years like semi-regular clockwork.
In the world of Gaia, 4 Crystals control the aspects of life: Fire, Water, Air and Earth. Each Crystal resides on a separate continent:
- The Fire Crystal of the Flamma continent, known for its volcanic climate, and the Gulg Volcano. The city of Hibana is the main power here, with its King being known for his tight-fisted rule. Despite the less-than-fruitful terrain, the people here manage to make a living. As do the rock-eating trolls and such.
- The Water Crystal, located in an underwater ruin within the Amnis Continent. The Town of Minato functions as the largest port town and the kingdom's hub, where the Queen resides. Mermaids are still seen as mythical and make-believe, even though there's, like, twenty spottings a year.
- The Air Crystal can be found on the floating continent of Divum, where the Avian-Humes generally reside. Due to its small stature, there's only one city to be found - Sobieru. Due to the ill health of the king, the winged prince is currently in charge, though he doesn't seem too good at it.
- Finally, the Earth Crystal is found in Solum, the kingdom here being Rikuchi. Due to its mountainous terrain, the gnomic people generally live underground, or in remote areas. The Gnomish King and Queen rule the land here.
- Another continent of note is Quietus, a land situated between the other four (well, three if a floating continent isn't counted...). Due to certain hostilities that sometimes flare between kingdoms for various reasons, this land is used as a place for non-hostile negotiation, or inter-continental contests held once every five years.
Jobs tend to fall into one of three categories; Melee, Magic and Support.
Melee: Anyone who prefers shoving swords into the skulls of goblins, or punching Flans to death, would fall into here. Favouring physical capabilities over that of magic, these guys excel at either killing or taking hits.
For now, the available jobs under this category are:
Warrior: Standard swordsman. Stab things, not die immediately, may or may not have a thing for powering up for a single, high-powered slash. Straight-forward and effective.
Monk: Punch things and probably maybe die pretty quickly. Using the power of their fists (or nunchuks. Or claws. Or poles), Monks will beat the hell out of their opponent. Some can even channel ki for special attacks.
Thief: Probably not a class one should should boast of publically, but whether you use your skills to rob the rich, poor or monster, no one can deny that Thieves are damn good at slipping through one's fingers. And poking things.
Hunter: Archers who tend to know the local wildlife. Hunters are pretty darn good at sniping things. Especially the birds.
Magic: For those that would rather rain fiery death upon the masses, or fix everything that ails you with a quick chant, would fall under here. White and Black magic are the two most prominent schools of magic, though obviously not the only ones.
For now, the available jobs under this category are:
White Mage: Standard healers. One thing to note; White Mages use only Healing spells (Cure and its upgrades), Dia spells (Anti-Undead, basically), Aero spells and Holy spells (obviously unavailable for now, although for the sake of expanding their list a bit, some upgrades and lower-grade versions of Holy can exist, like 'Pearl').
Black Mage: Standard nukes. Black Mages excel at throwing around spells. Note; the Elements available to a Black are Fire, Thunder, Water and Ice. Also, Drain and Osmose spells.
Time Mage: Guess what these guys do? That's right, shoot meteors at people and slap gravity in the face! Oh, and something about time alteration or something.
Evoker: The Summoner-lite's. While they may not be able to call upon the likes of Ifrit or Titan, they can instead call upon... that Flaming Salamander thingy, or a talking rock monster. Yeah.
Support: Anyone who excels at nothing, or specialises in altering the capabilities of friend and foe alike, fall here. Not direct fighters, but more like background fighters. It is said that anyone within this archetype has an innate ability to be the best dressed.
For now, the available jobs under this category are:
Red Mage: By combining the powers of White and Black, you get... Red. Huh. Red Mages try to do everything at once; fight, nuke, heal. They say that a Red Mage can never master anything, but tell that to any fashion aficionado and get laughed at for your foolishness.
Blue Mage: A strange branch of Magic that focuses on harnessing the powers of monsters. Often the overly-situational ones, but they occasionally manage to learn some really awesome stuff.
Green Mage: They're like a counterpart to White Mages, for some reason. While Green Mages can't do the healing thing, they can certainly do their best to make a White Mage obsolete, using their own brand of magic to protect allies, depower enemies... or just plant their hammers into a monster's face and hope for the best.
Beastmaster: Those with the strange ability to communicate with even the most ferocious of monsters. While permanent taming is seen as ridiculously impossible, Beastmasters can still utilise the creatures they tame in various ways, from transport to protection, and weaker-minded monsters take an extremely long time to ever break free of the tamer's control.
For those who want to be Dark Knights or Scholars and the like; never fear, for the possibility to upgrade shall happen. Eventually. May or may not involve Rat Tails.
Feel free to ask me for more information about the Jobs, and remember, we're not starting with Meteor and Bahamut.
A list of playable species. Feel free to suggest others!
Humans: Take a guess what these are.
Avian-Humes: You may think they're just humans with wings, but that's so totally wrong. There's so much difference, you guys.
Gnomes: Rali-ho! These little guys are great at living on mountainous terrain. They prefer to keep to themselves, usually.
Dwarves Lali-ho! Dwarves are amazing at building things. And beating up golems.
Mer-people: These incredibly rare specimens live, shockingly enough, in non-land areas. They require explicit permission from the Queen of the Seas to achieve a more human form, which is kind of difficult to acquire. They are also skilled at breathing underwater.
Moogles: The cutest little things you'll ever see. Kupo. Kupo kupo kupo.
Elves: They prefer forest environments, they live incredibly long... they rarely involve themselves with those outside their clans, but that's because they're a race that likes to keep to themselves a lot. They're not exactly inhospitable, either.
