Since this was the most popular topic, i am putting up an interest check dedicated to this. This is mainly just to see who is interested, and to possibly find a co-gm to help me get it up off the ground. I want to make sure a certain number of players are interested before I have this put up as a group rp thread.

-----------------------------------------------------

You know the basic plot:

a festival/ceremony where a guy/girl is offered up to a dark fantasy-type creature, taking place in a more modern setting, in order to keep their city from being destroyed. Takes place every red moon. But, there is a twist that will really change everything, and keep things from going as the leader of the city intended.

Anyway, i did my best to come up with a story for it:

There was a town called Warlington.

A long time ago, there was no town. It was just a long stretch of land. The ones who settled there thought, because of its' seemingly peaceful state and abundance of food and water within nature, that it would be a great place to build their homes. And so, they did. It was the start of a village, which would turn into a town over the many years. This place, this town, would be named after the first leader of it, the name of Warlington.

Their new home flourished. They thrived there. It was a dream come true. Many people were happy here. Many families were started here. Children ran in the streets, happy and laughing. But, sadly, this would not last very long. They had no idea what was actually hidden within that peaceful place, why no one else lived there until they came along.

There was a creature that lived there, a dark creature of fantasy. This land was its' home. No one who knew of it had ever dared to set foot here because of that creature. They feared it, and whatever power it might have had. The people who founded Warlington had no idea of this. They had never heard the stories nor did they know of any such things that might have existed there. Well....they found out too late. They were about to find this out for themselves.

One night, under the first red moon since the town began to flourish there, a strange sound was heard echoing in the air. Many a sleeping human was awoken by this sound. Some were too frightened by it to want to even leave their beds. Some were brave enough to at least glance out the windows into the streets. Those that looked outside would see something no one with a weak heart should ever see. There was a shadow moving about. Who did the shadow belong to? They did not know. It was a strange shadow, and one that clearly did not belong to a human.

The footsteps were rather loud. It was as if whomever or whatever roamed the streets was stomping angrily. This made those that had been brave enough to glance outside hide back within their homes rather quickly. Then, there was a loud smash, like the sound of breaking wood and stone and such. Screams rang in the air. A home or two had been destroyed. All that was left was rubble. It was sheer luck that those homes had been empty at the time, the occupants elsewhere when the homes were destroyed like that.

Then, a cry could be heard, as if whatever was out there were highly upset that there were buildings there. Upon hearing that, people began to flee from their homes. They attempted to get as far away as possible. They tried to hide. They tried to get away. But, whatever had arrived at the town would somehow have them all cornered, every last man woman and child.

They all begged and pleaded. But, the creature did not listen. It clearly voiced its' desire to have them all eliminated. Somehow it knew human speech! This would shock and surprise many, who were already afraid to begin with. They were all doomed, or so they thought.

But, in a desperate act, a young lady asked to make amends. She offered her own life in exchange for the town. There was a pause. It was as if the creature was about to refuse. But, it had an idea of its' own.

'Very well'
A reply was finally heard.
'this is accepted. however.....'

There was a condition. One offering would not be enough to spare the lives of the townsfolk, nor enough to spare their descendants. The creature demanded one sacrifice every year, one for every home that was ever built upon its' land, for every plant that was destroyed as a result of their selfishness and greed.

Wanting their lives to be spared so badly, they all agreed. Then, the creature, this dark being of the fantasy realm, left without a word, without a trace, the girl with him. The girl was never to be seen again.

And so, every red moon the creature would return. Every red moon, a human, a boy or a girl, it did not matter, would be taken from them, no trace of them ever being left behind. This went on for many many years. Hundreds of years would pass since then.....

This annual sacrifice eventually became a festival. This festival was dedicated to keeping their town safe. It was ran by the town leader, who did it in the name of their ancestors who originally made the deal with that creature all those years ago. There would be food and games....until the creature arrived.

When the red moon showed up in the sky, the people would stop what they were doing no matter what it was. Every light was shut off(street lamp, house lamp, candles, etc). They would gather around the young man or woman who was chosen to be offered up that year. They would place a crown of black roses upon their head and lead them to the town square. The young man or woman would, then, stand by the fountain in the town square, surrounded by lit candles, and await the arrival of the creature. A song sang by the original townspeople would be heard being sang, a story of sorts mixed with a desire and such for the creature to spare them for yet another year.

A signal would be given. When it was seen , the creature would show up not long after to claim their offering. They would take them and make their leave, but not before repeating its' dire warning, the same one it gave every year. If even one offering was left un-offered, then the town would be destroyed, and every human with it.

However, this year, it would be different. How? No one knew that yet, nor did they know what would happen.

There would be a twist. Something about this years offering, this young man or woman, would make things different. Things would not go as planned. Somehow, the festival may actually.....fail!

How?! Why?! What could have happened?! They honored the deal every year! They even held a festival with a ceremony in order to do so! What could be wrong?! What did they do?!

No one knew. Everyone, especially the leader, would be in a panic. What could have happened that changed the creatures mind? Would their town be destroyed? Did the offering run off or something? Did the creature decide to back out and destroy the town and such anyway?

What could the twist to this story be? That is up to the creature, whomever they may be. Did they fall in love? Did they simply change their mind? What do you think?

This is only the beginning...........

------------------------------------------

What do you think? This is what I have so far. Hopefully it is a good idea of what the rp will/would be about. If anyone has any suggestions/ideas to add to the story, please let me know.

co-gms wanted to help get this off the ground. Hoping to try to make this a casual rp, but if not, it can just be another free rp. Please and thank you.

scambles in a bit more than fashionably late, bumping into the corner of the wall along the way.

Yes, yes. Creature here! I've been working on the prospective styles of two creatures;
  • Fae, Unseelie courts utilizing Brian Froud artwork for reference
  • Cryptid inspired with a bit of shifter attributes (in the vein of Wessen from tv series Grimm)

Both ideas can be played as either gender, or genderless, depending on how things go. I have ideas, lots of ideas, that I'll be working with @vampiretwilight on when things get a touch less hectic irl for me. :D

Additionally, free would likely allow more *ahem*fredoom (ba-dum-tsh) for the players to choose their post length depending on the particular scene

can I put my Apsari over here? :D

she'd have same background up until she became a concubine, but not necessarily related to our 1x1

EDIT: I've re-read the premise, Apsari won't match the setting.

I might want to propose a survivor of the sacrifice. She was sacrificed two years ago before the current story begins. I might need a PM info of what happened to the sacrificed ones if it's not left in my imagination.
