Scarlet smiled and said “just open them already. He did it for you” Midnight nodded and added “indeed. Let’s get this mystery solved shall we?” Then they heard the front door open.

“It must be Iris and Bane.” And true to her words Iris and Bane ran in. Iris stared and asked “what happened? Are you alright? “ scarlet nodded as the sage moved to Dante and started checking him. She looked at Matias and said “has he woken up at all?”

Matias's head hung up high, and the words "Oh thank god" hissed out of his mouth in a hushed whisper.

"He's been unconscious since I found him," he replied, tearing at the folder's seal perforation. "We're suspecting that he got ganged up on by a bunch of cops, but we're not totally sure."

Sitting about five feet away from him was a small end table which he eagerly used to lay out the folder's contents. The original notes were sealed away in labeled plastic, while the lab reports seemed free for the taking. The font was small and blocky, but at least it was legible.

"I told Midnight that we should make this our temporary base," he said, "because I'm worried about others getting injured from far away. We need everyone together at once, no more splitting up until absolutely necessary."

Bane nodded and said “I’ll work on making this the base for a time. Iris?” Iris was already working on Dante and said “his in bad shape. This will take time…if he had been human he would be dead”

Scarlet sighed and looked at Matias. “Well? What does the report say?”

Iris was getting the shirt off of Dante. She hissed at the new wounds and shook her head. Midnight carefully got up and went over to Matias. “What’s it say?”

Matias raised one hand and looked back for a moment.

"Hold on," he said, "I'm still looking it over."

The two reports were chock-full of information but practically identical outside of the extremely small and granulated images of the notes on the top left corner of their respective sheets. It had everything; lead type, carbon dating, even an estimate of the author's dominant hand. As for anything potentially identifiable, however...

"Name, unknown, sex, unknown, height, unknown... What am I supposed to do wi–?"

A certain field caught his eye.

"POTENTIAL RACE LINK: MYSTIC. HAIR SAMPLE LINKS TO VARIATION OF SYNTOMEIDA EPILAIS WITH HUMANOID PROPERTIES."

Matias could hardly pronounce the augmented Latin. He tried once and didn't attempt it again.

"... An alien I guess?"

Midnight looked at the paper for him and nodded. “Yes, a high breed. Does that mean anything to you?”

Iris was working on Dante who was in bad shape. Bane was treating Scarlet who couldn’t take her eyes off of Dante.

Matias could only shrug.

"Not really... Let me see something."

His phone found itself in his palm again, its face mercilessly smashed upon as Matias did his research. He had to look back at the paper a few times to get the whole search query down. What followed it made his eyes unable to blink.

"... Polka-dot wasp moth."

His face quickly contorted to one of deep exacerbation as he slammed his phone an top of the end table.

"Fucking knew it. But how the hell are there no records on that thing?! Not even a name?!"

He sighed deeply.

"Well, now it's confirmed. But that's all we can do with this."

He looked back at the medical crew behind him.

"You guys need anything?"

Midnight took the phone and looked it over. “Now is where I come in…” she sent the info to her phone and then said “let my guy at the office look this over.”

Bane looked over and smiled. “Scarlet will be alright. Dante…” Iris didn’t look up as she worked, sweating as she worked to stabilize him

Matias let out a soft "huh?" in response.

"What's that guy gonna do?" he asked in a confused, borderline condescending voice. He waited for an answer before turning to Bane. He, again, waited for an answer. He thought Bane was just thinking, but then he realized that he had pretty much ended the conversation there. Looking dissatisfied, he motioned one hand for Bane to "continue".

"Well? What's going on with him?"

Midnight smiled and said “there’s a reason I’m head of government security and information. He is very good. It’s his nature” she looked over as Bane said “Dante is worse off. Beaten up on top of whatever else is going on.”

Iris looked up and said “half his rib cage is broken, his got holy water burns all over him…everything they could have used to hurt a vampire they did…I’m just trying to get a handle on it all”

Matias took a look at Dante himself, biting his lip. He had anticipated grave injuries, but not that grave. He couldn't even really tell if the man was breathing or not.

"Are you sure you can fix him up by yourself? That sounds like way too much. Surely there's something we can do?"

Iris sighed and wiped her face again. “If he were a breathing creature, I wouldn’t have a chance. The fact his dead technically that helps. We just have to get his body stable until his own healing can kick in. And he needs fresh blood. And I mean as fresh as we can get it”

Bane frowned and said “I can’t donate. My blood will make it worse. And Scsrlt you can’t either. Your fire in your blood might burn him”

Midnight was already rolling up her sleeve. “Let me do it. My powers won’t affect him”

A powerful hand smacked Midnight's wrist away.

"Are you stupid?!" Matias barked, "After all the blood you lost from yesterday, you want to lose more?! Forget about it."

His hands then met the lapel of his jacket, pulling backwards and effectively removing the garment from his body. Underneath he wore a grey tank top that has probably seen better days.

"I'll do it. As long as I don't have to get bit or something."

Midnight frowned and said “no Matias. I can do this. Dante is in this mess because of me. I can do this”

Iris didn’t look up as she said “no. Just a needle in the arm. I don’t care who does it just decide. Because I’m going to lose him since he hasn’t fed in days. He needs blood now”

"I did decide," Matias growled, "it's her–"

He pointed at Midnight.

"–that won't let me act on it. Seriously, we can't afford you complicating again health-wise. You can do it next time... I guess."

Rolling his eyes, he put a hand to his inner elbow, squeezing the soft flesh.

"Anyway... Don't listen to her. Just do it with me."

Midnight started to argue when Bane barked. “Enough! Boss, he is right. Your in no shape to give blood. Let Matias do it. Come here kid” he waved Matias over to him as he pulled out a needle kit from the med bag.

Midnight looked at Iris who said “they are right boss. You can’t take any more hits till that wound is healed”

Bane got everything set up and said “sit on the bed. If you get light headed tell me. You ready?”

Before following Bane to the bed, Matias looked over at Midnight, glaring softly.

"You won't listen to me," he huffed, "so listen to them. They're saying the truth."

He walked on over and sat as told. He and needles weren't exactly on speaking terms, so he had to take a gulp of air to calm his once dormant nerves. He could already smell the alcohol in his mind's nose.

"How much are you going to get?" he asked, intending a rhetorical question. "I should be fine. Just make it quick."

He stuck out his rather hairy arm, palm facing up, and looked away from the gleaming needle point.

Bane smiled and said “it’s already in mate. I may not be a doc but I’ve done enough in the field to know what I’m doing. Just hold on for me…I think a bag will be enough…”

Midnight was bouncing on her heels, clearly not liking using Matias like this. Her eyes were filled with concern and worry.

Iris was getting to Dante’s other wounds, her body shaking form the stress.

While the pain wasn't a huge detriment by any means, it was still a noticable pinch, and it made Matias close his eyes and grunt for a moment. When he opened them, he saw Midnight in the midst of her fidgeting. He simply stared at her blankly before distracting himself with a nearby window. It seemed the day was soon ending, the sky tinted a brilliant orange with the sun hiding behind some buildings and the horizon. Matias was rather tired himself, so this came as a blessing.

His arm was beginning to feel numb, worried sick about the foreign object lodged into it. Matias found this a tad difficult to ignore, so his sight met Bane.

"Almost done, dogman?"

Bane was checking the bag which was almost full and nodded. “Almost done mate. Just hang on a little bit longer…” he glanced over and asked “feeling light headed or dizzy”

Midnight had started pacing, not liking any of this. Iris was still working on Dante, the slow fight seeming to be working for good

Matias shook his head.

"Just a little numb," he replied, "but that's just my nerves acting up..."

The bag caught his eye. It was about three fourths full of bright red liquid, but it took its time getting fuller than that despite how it gushed in the plastic confines. While that was annoying, the rhythmic sound of Midnight walking too and fro was also getting rather irritating, possibly even more so.

"What?" he said, "Jealous? This isn't exactly fun, you know."
