Perhaps it was going to be difficult for Lann to listen to comments like such expressed by the friendly waitress. His face remained hidden behind the foiled cardboard-like paper with a list of rather delicious sounding foods that Lann was tempted to try. However given his pocket money-- he wouldn't be ordering anything too incredibly expensive... Although the prices surprised him a little. "$6 for a cup of cappuccino... That's pretty steep." It almost made him reach for his pocket and pat it to settle the traumatised wallet. Lann's family may be richer than most people's, but money management was what Lann learned. Lann's conscience nearly broke when he heard Emilia.
"He's a good friend. For now." The statement was bold and daring of Emilia. It made Lann realise how close the waitress and Emilia might be if she would share her opinions to her. He quickly eyed the waitress's uniform in search for a name. Lauren. Taking a peek back to Emilia, he had a wry smile when he saw her warm cheeks blushing as her eyes scanned over the familiar menu of Timeless R!viƩre.
"Just a good friend. For now. Perhaps she likes me too? She even said... 'For now'. Does that mean she plans to ask me on a date sometime? Or am I just being over the top with myself? That must be it..." Even though he couldn't see, he felt curious eyes looking over to him as he carefully read the menu. His heart beated a little too nervous about it and droplets of sweat began to flow from his forehead hoping that it would go away and pretty soon. The feeling broke itself when Lauren asked him a question that all cliched waitresses would ask.
"What are you going to get?" The question made him look up steadfastly, the redness remaining on his cheeks as he turned to Lauren and ordered his cup of cappuccino, forgetting that it was $6 a cup and it was pretty damn steep. He wanted to cancel the order, but the quick writing skills that Lauren had made Lann bit his own tongue and defeatedly set down the menu before sighing. Emilia's giggle was responded with a small, yet playful, glare. The stacking of books followed as Emilia prepared her work for school and Lann followed. He stacked his own books onto the table and thought over what homework he should be doing before he was flooded in indecisiveness and procrastination. Emilia wouldn't let that happen though, right?
"Which do you want to do first? I could catch you up on chemistry you missed from this morning." He was right. She was precisely on target. It made Lann scuttle for his his chemistry book and checked his agenda to search what needed to be completed for tomorrow's lesson. His recent chemistry notes had gaps, so perhaps it would be a good idea to follow up on Emilia's suggestion. "You're good at math right?" Her question threw his train of thought slightly out of course, seen by the sudden roll of eyes and swirling in confusion lips.
"I think you should help me catch up first. As for maths... I understood it. I'll tell you all about it once I've caught up with chemistry. How about it?" He smiled before moving his chair closer until he was practically next to Emilia. He compared his current notes with hers and immediately wrote up the missing gaps before Emilia explained the entire lesson to the best she could. Lann was slightly intrigued at the fact that she was stuttering a little. Did she not understand the lesson too? Or was her mind elsewhere? Either way, he absorbed as much of her explanation as he could before continuing to record it down. Several minutes flew by and they started on their chemistry homework, which was also the time where Lauren returned with the wooden tray in hand holding Emilia and Lann's orders on top. She deftly placed them onto the table in front of Emilia and Lann.
"Getting a little close there mister. Watch out, Emilia might bite!" She sassily commented before escaping the table with Lann's embarrassment level piercing through levels thought to be impossible. He playfully swatted Lauren away before returning to their work and sipping upon his cup of cappuccino and working. Their study session lasted for a while as they moved through the subjects. Maths, History and Theory PE Lann felt like his homework wasn't home work. With Emilia, he felt a certain feeling that made his homework feels like it was a fun activity. He was able to enjoy it better than at home where he would be dreading over his work and just didn't give a damn. He hoped that Emilia felt the same way, the familiarity never ceasing to fade away as he looked into her eyes and smiled with her. It was surreal.
Now, his coffee was finished after several hours of working to complete their homework. Bags packed and minds mentally discharged from all energy, Lauren swooped in and saw the two exhausted couple just sitting about getting comfortable with each other and gave them their table's bill. It seems that Lann had repressed all of his temptations by just ordering one cup of cappuccino. It was similar with Emilia. "How's the studies Emilia? Both of you look pretty tired from here." Lauren spoke of the obvious that made Lann laugh. "Hey!" She murmured, annoyed at the fact that Lann responded. The time was about 6 PM, just enough for them to still head out to the market and have a look around.
