It's the natural life cycle of a crossover nowadays.
If a crossover has a good idea, then people will want to join. If there isn't a responsible acceptance limit, that roleplay will gain 50+ characters. When the roleplay starts, because there are so many characters, there will be so much excitement to where it will cause speed posting. When there is speed posting, the GM himself/herself will lose track of what's going on and it'll be extremely hard to control the story. A week into the rp and, no matter how well you tried to keep it floating, the excitement level will drastically fall, and players will fly off to some other crossover.
This was a fun concept nonetheless, I wish it went on a little longer.
