City of the Valkyries

“It appears like you are in need of a miracle. Worry not for I am Melvin, the miracle maker.”

Melvin is a charming gentleman with a sparkling smile, adorned with a tailcoat, monocle and cane. To some he is an angel; a savior who grants miracles and wishes for the mountains of desperate and pitiful souls. To others, he is a demon; a devil who plays with the weak hearts of humans and brings forth destruction and despair.

“Would you like to sign a contract with me?”

You are desperate. Sad. Lonely. Pitiful. Angry. Vengeful. Greedy. Whether you are hopelessly in debt, have lost a loved one or have been abandoned, Melvin can grant you any wish you desire - so long as you’re willing to pay the price.
W E L C O M E TO |V A L K Y R I E|

YOUR TRIAL BEGINS IN : 00:00:10

Valkyrie seems to be your normal, everyday city - you may even find it to be peculiarly similar to your own. ‘People’ work, learn, play and breathe in this city just like you or me; but they know they aren't actually real. They are merely void creatures with no emotions, knowingly and obeyingly playing their roles as a ‘working father’ or an ‘innocent child.’ The entire city was built for one, and only one reason: to hold the trials that you must pass in order to grant or sustain your wish. It is the price you have to pay. No matter how hellish the mission may be, you must tread forward or risk losing everything.

Just how far will you go for your deepest desires? Will you die trying? Or will you go against Jonah in the end?

1) Whatever GM says is law. I reserve the right to change the rules as I see fit.
2) In case it does happen. Take the sexual stuff to pms, or fade to black. We don't need to be getting banned.
3) No god-modding or perfect characters. I want this RP to be focused on character development, and how they react to the situations as they continue with the trials.
4) Yes, you need to know the stuff in the spoilers. I know its a lot but you won’t understand what’s going on if you don't.
5) Be nice and fair to others. Disputes will not be tolerated in the OOC. Got issues take it to Pms.
6) Try to post a few times a week. We completely understand if you have work because we all have lives outside of RPG I’m sure, but please notify us beforehand.
7) Try to write at least three to four lines. I ain't expecting you to write full fledged novels.
8) YOUR CHARACTER CAN DIE. The GMs will randomly decide who will die in the IC. You will be PMed if you are chosen. However, you will still be able to RP when your character has died, but we will tell you the specifics later on.
9) You are allowed to make as many characters as you want, just make sure you can handle it.
10) And lastly, the cliche of all rules, have fun!
Please take some time with your CS; the character development is pretty important here and I don’t want to see only two lines under ‘bio’.

Name: Persephone Parathyro
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Appearance:
Personality: Erratic, easily angered, impulsive, informative, lacks social skills
Bio: Persephone comes from a wealthy family; her father runs one of the most successful pharmaceutical companies in the world and has accumulated a great deal of money. Her mother is a retired psychologist, interested primarily in childhood development. Persephone's parents decided that they would want the best for their only daughter, and with a combination of her father's money, and her mother's experiences in the field of psychology, they had decided to create a very strict regime to raise the perfect daughter, to which they followed by the letter. Persephone lived her life within the white walls of empty mansion her parents called a home, instructed to wake and sleep at the exact same time each day, instructed to follow time-specific classes and lessons, each with a different tutor. Even what she did during her "playtime" was scheduled, never having to choose for herself. Persephone's "playmates" were not even playmates at all, but professional nannies, hired to simulate social interaction in what Persephone's mother deemed to be best for Persephone. At age 8, Persephone showed some strength in the subject in mathematics, and to her parents' delight, they decided to focus her teachings around the subject, believing that they had found their daughter's "true calling." Persephone's world became one of numbers, theory, and chalk, whose glaring presence began to wear her down. Persephone's solace was found in her literature lessons, to which her mind drifted to the worlds spawned by the paper and text willingly, but as Persephone grew older, the literature lessons grew shorter to accommodate longer mathematics lessons until they were cut out altogether. After the literature lessons had ceased, Persephone slowly began to crack underneath her world of numbers: at the age of 15 she had a breakdown in the middle of a lesson, hurling a piece of chalk at the blackboard, which burst upon its pristine surface in a cloud of white dust. The lesson still continued. A year later, during a particularly difficult lesson, Persephone assaulted her tutor. She was locked in her room for this. Her parents became increasingly aware that their "by the book" regime was falling apart, and had decided to increase their control on their daughter's life. Other lessons began to be taken away, each for a different reason: History was too violent, biology was too gruesome, chemistry was too dangerous, and other subjects were taken away too, until Persephone was left with only mathematics. Persephone's outbursts only increased in multitude.

Only an hour prior to Persephone's meeting with Melvin, Persephone was staring at a piece of paper in frustration, looking over the numbers in confusions. Her fists clenched, and her stomach stirred. She prayed it to be the time to consume a meal, she prayed for the lesson to stop and free her from this torture. But, for all Persephone knew, her prays were empty thoughts, unable to fulfill her wishes. All it was, was numbers, numbers, and more numbers. Numbers dictated her schedule, numbers dictated her actions, numbers dictated what her parents thought would be best. NUMBERS.

Persephone glanced out the window, spotting the rain tap the glass. Persephone imagined herself leaping from her seat and breaking the window: It would feel good to hear the glass shatter and rain down upon the mud below.... Persephone thought, But I would be punished for sure.... Persephone sighed and went back to scribbling on her paper, accidentally snapping her pencil in half. Persephone gritted her teeth as her tutor handed her another pencil, angry that a broken pencil hadn't ended her lesson. If the window broke, the rain would get in and the lesson would have to halt for a little while.... Persephone rationalized, before abruptly standing up and stomping towards the window, as her tutor protests, insisting that she stay in her seat.

Persephone did not care for her tutor's wishes, though.

Persephone raised her fist and thrust it at the glass, breaching the fragile barrier between the classroom and the outside world. Shards of glass lacerated the skin on her hand, causing the blood to appear.

Persephone did not care.

However, Persephone's parents did care though and locked Persephone in her room, until they could figure out what to do. That was when Melvin appeared.

Persephone was sitting alone on her bed, staring at her bandaged hand, feeling angry that she had to sit there and write numbers. Angry and confused. Confused of why the numbers seemed to matter so much when they did not sprout from the earth, when chalk did not run through her veins, when theories time and time again were proved false, making her feel lost in her world of numbers.

Persephone craved a different world; she craved until she was at tears.

“It appears like you are in need of a miracle. Worry not for I am Melvin, the miracle maker."

And Peresphone made her wish.
Specific wish: To have the ability to traverse into alternate dimensions and universes.

Name: Alexander Prince

Age: 24

Gender: Male

Appearance:

Personality: Always serious, determined, shows glimpses of life prior to his breakdown, uninterested in others, daydreams a lot.

Bio: According to his brother Jayden, when Alex was born their father broke down in tears of joy. Though eventually he would dismiss that claim as just an act of kindness to protect Alex from an ugly truth. Jayden was born 5 years prior to Alex and lived a love filled life with both their parents. This would have continued through the birth of Alex if not for the death of their mother during child birth. The doctors said if Alex wasn't thrashing around so much then the procedure would've gone smoother and perhaps allowed the mother to live. Growing up, their father did all he could to be the single dad they needed. Showing both of them equal attention and support at a young age. That is, until Alex was around 13 years old. Their father started recognizing their mother more and more in Alex's face. As the year progressed their father lost his job and became an alcoholic and violent. One night he got enraged at Alex for not taking the trash out and it evolved into beating him and yelling at him with claims that he is solely responsible for the death of their mother. Jayden got home from work and called the police as soon as he witnessed it. Three months later the father committed suicide in his prison cell. From then on Jayden took on many jobs to support them both.

When Alex turned 18 they both agreed to join the Marines. The brothers were close than they ever were, completing all their training and deployments side by side. Everything seemed perfect, Alex even made a girlfriend named Sarah and both Jayden and Alex made a best name Dave. The four were inseperable and cared for each other. After a couple years the group wanted to vacation somewhere together but unfortunately Alex chose to complete a training of his instead. When the three returned to base, Alex could tell right away something was off but when he asked they all denied anything was up. Throughout the year Sarah became more distant from Alex and he knew she was cheating on him. A couple deployments has given Alex a severe case of paranoia so one night he went to her room to hopefully catch her in whatever act he can catch. But instead he found the door cracked and Sarah's lifeless, bloody body on the bed with a golden locket in her hand with a picture of him and her together that he took before reporting the situation. A few days later, after asking many questions of his friends he found Jayden to be holding something back. He took his suspicions to his best friend Dave who supported his thoughts with suspicions of his own. They both confronted Jayden and when he asked, Jayden just stood in silence, trying to come up with a good reason. "Alex...look I'm sorry but" BANG!

Before Jayden could finish Alex had shot him right in the chest, his apologetic expression and by what he was saying Alex was convinced of his actions. A tear fell down his face as he watched his brother gasping for air, dying on the floor. Dave walked up to Alex from behind and put his hand on his shoulder. "You did the right thing Alex, I know he was your brother. But he was a monster, how could he kill the woman you loved. Holding that locket you gave her even in the end, she really loved you back." Alex's expression changed to shock as he felt like his heart dropped. Turning around he pushed Dave away and pointed the gun at him. "I took that necklace Dave, nobody knew she was holding it." Dave just chuckled and stuttered as he tried to come up with something clever, before he could he reached into his holster and as he aimed his pistol they both shot and both fell to the ground. Alex sat up slightly, holding his shoulder where he was hit, and seeing a hole in Dave's head. All of a sudden he hears the low tone voice of Jayden trying to speak. Pulling hiself closer to his body Alex listened as Jayden explained the whole story. When the three of them went on vacation, Dave and Sarah hooked up. Jayden caught them but promised not to say anything so as to protect Alex but told Sarah to break up with him as nicely as she can but she decided to stopp seeing Dave instead. But that didn't happen they kept seeing each other and when Sarah felt too guilty she broke it off with Dave and unable to accept, he killed her.

Alex could not see due to the tears constantly filling his eyes as he watched his brother slip away. Laying there, he slowly pointed the pistol to his head, the sadness gained from learning the truth and being betrayed by his best friend and the guilt of killing the one person who never betrayed him and always protected him was too much to live with. Right before his pulled the trigger an looking man with a monocle poke his head over, looking down at Alex. The man gave his proposal and Alex knew exactly what he would wish for that would forever cure his paranoia and prevent something like this from ever happeneing again. So he immediately accepted.

Specific wish: The ability to read thoughts.
